You can register an international consumer complaint here, but there's nothing binding to force the state of California to act on it.

A complaint with the BBB puts the screws to them also, but doesn't get you your money back as far as I know.

I mean it sounds absurd that they think that you are legally bound to this transaction, but I don't know Canadian law. Given your explicit disclaimer to them that you were not authorizing payment, you certainly wouldn't have bound yourself to a deal if you were an American dealing with another American, and them taking payment for nothing in return would be unjust enrichment. (Unless you did get arguably get something for this, in which case it would be muddy.)

I think that's the problem is that they're saying that I got what I was paying for, and I said that I not only didn't want to pay for it, but I didn't get what they think I've paid for. It's a muddy situation, I agree. I might just have to eat this.

I mean, no big deal in the long run, but there is an opportunity down the road to request a refund with them if certain conditions are met. I already know at that point that they're going to put up a fight and deny the refund, though. Oh well, I'm geared up now for a bit of a hassle with them so I'm not worried.
