It would be a shame if Chip headed back and bailed them out.
Honestly, I don't see him going back to Oregon. My money is on Texas. Yeah, I don't think he'll last in Philadelphia much longer. Maybe the rest of this year, but that's it. (if they don't turn it around)

Ducks go to UW next week. So you're saying there's a chance.

There's definitely a chance. The thing that was pissing me off as it looked like we had blown our chance to upset Oregon is that I could tell that they were pretty fraudulent and that UW would probably beat them next week, and it was going to bother me that we let slip the chance to do it first. Thankfully, a heroic 4th quarter comeback later, I feel much better about the whole thing.

Honestly I'm guessing that UW could even be the pointspread favorite next Saturday. I'd love to pretend that we knocked off a great team tonight, but what actually happened is that we beat an okay team with a great name brand. Still a great win that I'm all kinds of ecstatic about.

When the Cougs went 2-10 a handful of years ago and really fielded their worst team ever, routinely losing by 35+ in most games (but thankfully upsetting UW in the Apple Cup and causing them to go 0-12), we were still able to beat Portland State by four TDs.

This was just unimaginable to me. I saw someone on Twitter say on Saturday night, "This morning, I would have said there was a 90% chance of Mike Leach turning WSU around. Now I'm down to 0%." That's basically my exact reaction across the board.
I know the PAC-12 and C-USA are different animals, but maybe losing to Portland State wasn't that bad.

Portland State 66, North Texas 7

I know it. As someone who prides himself on trying to never overreact right after something happens, it appears that I may have.

Historically Portland State is not even competitive at an FCS level, and frankly I've always associated them with being an insane outlier in our 2008 season:

We were losing by an average of 40+ per week, and we destroyed them. And then, as recently as last season, we beat them by 38. It was hard not to see that loss as a historical abomination.

I did do this bet. Was an amazing start and first half, but Keenan had to get injured, which he is prone to do getting hit 50 times a game as an option QB, and it went downhill from there. Good thing it's only money. Blah.

I was watching football when that Chase Utley play blew up Twitter, and only just now went to go find a replay of it. I guess I sort of don't know where the line is on stuff like that in a sport that consistently condones slides to break up double plays, and even the instances of sliding pretty far out of the baseline usually don't cause a ruckus. I'm sure I would be upset if it was my team's shortstop who got their knee torn up on a play like that though.

well besides all that, the slide was super late, he made no attempt to touch the base, and then to add insult to injury replay called him safe

I've never really understood the logic behind allowing the "takeout slide". I can't think of any other instance where a baserunner is allowed to interfere with the fielder, except when sliding into second base.

It was an old school baseball play, not dirty at all... Utley will forever be a legend in the city of Philadelphia.

That looks pretty strong.

It's weird to me that I've almost completely dropped the habit of going to the movies.

i hardly go now. When I lived in Orlando and was about 5 minutes from two different theaters I probably averaged a little over a movie a week. Was always a good way to kill a few hours. Now it's about 20-30 min away and I go maybe 4 times a year. Though a new one is opening up pretty close to me so I may have to restart that.

There's a great theater in downtown Indy that features seating that is nothing but large power recliners. Pretty impressive. I still just don't tend to think about going, and I'm not even one who minds going to the theater alone if nobody else is interested in what I want to see.

I should get back into it a bit.

Oh man I went to one of those in downtown Orlando once. Had like buckets of beer, fries, chicken wings, hamburgers, and mixed drinks along with the normal stuff theaters have. The coolest thing they did was show monday night football on a screen every week. It's where I saw this:

place went nuts. was a ton of fun. Wish I went more to that.

I've become such a movie snob over the past few years. I have made a point to see all of the Oscar nominees in the eight major categories before the ceremony. Probably will do that again this year.

Up until recently (see having kids) I had only gone to a movie alone once and it was Wedding Crashers. I've done it a few times lately after going to like 2 movies in 1.5 years after averaging I'd say 2 a month.

I live close to an Alamo Drafthouse and DC where they show local playoff games, aka when the caps make it and inevitably lose in game 7. I think I'm about 0-4 going to games there hoping for a win. Still pretty cool though to have that option.

I've managed to not see a single Best Picture nominee from the past two years. The last nominees that I saw were Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook from the 2013 awards...Django was great, Silver Linings Playbook was definitely not.

I definitely need to step my movie-watching game back up a bit. In prior years I'm sure that I've seen every Best Picture nominee. Seems pretty terrible that I haven't seen Birdman, being an Edward Norton fan who was bothered that he fell off the face of the earth after a sick run of movies in the 90s.

The most recent group of BP nominees was very weak. Birdman was an adequate choice as the winner, but I can't really say it was "must-see".

The year before was much, much stronger.

I'm glad you didn't like SLP. That was one of the most contrived uninspired piece of **** movies I've ever seen. My wife and I looked at each other after the disastrous third act and were like "THIS is a best picture nominee?" It was like a third grader watched a bunch of I love Lucy reruns, took out the comedy, put in their crush, and made it into complete crap.

Birdman was... weird. Probably in a good way, but it's hard to say. I liked? It, but I don't even know if I can say that. I can say it was stylistically awesome and beautiful, and it's not a bad movie, but it's hard for me to find words to describe how exactly I feel about whether it was good or not.

It looks like 2009/2010 was my dividing point; I saw every Best Picture nominee on the 2009 and 2008 shows, then dropped off noticeably after that.

I think that part of the problem is that you can get great TV series on Netflix and Amazon streaming, but having to actually pay for the physical DVD subscription has kept me from bothering with the movies that don't get offered. And most of the great, popular movies that come out don't get offered for streaming.

I've heard reviews like this about it before, and it's what spooks me off of wanting to watch it. It immediately evokes images of Punch Drunk Love in my head. I didn't understand what was supposed to be good about that one either.
