There is clearly only one solution. . .

Empty Arena Wedding.

I'd like to think that four months provides enough notice to get yourself another one, but June is a really popular wedding month, so...

Yeah that's annoying. GL.

FWIW, my sister and her husband had their reception in Big Wally's bar. I can book it if you want.

Would anyone here contribute to a Forum Dating Thread? I always wonder about the dating lives of people as into all this as we are, and that if we do find anyone good, we fall off the face of the earth like AntiDan did for awhile

I don't have a dating life. I'm way too good at hitting the "friend zone".

Yeah usually a separate off-topic thread within a forum kind of comes about organically because it starts dominating LC so much that it merits extraction to another venue.

I always feel like I was just had when I say "thank you" to a clerk in the store at the end of a transaction and they respond with "you're welcome."

Dude, I'm saying thank you as a pleasantry, to which you are to say thank you back to me. If you say "you're welcome," it's as if we just had a brief conversation in which I thanked you for taking my money and that was that.

Also, I wish people wouldn't hold doors open for me from like 25 feet away. Yes, their heart is in the right place, and I'm appreciative of that, but all they're really doing is saddling me with a moral obligation to break into a jog. (Obviously this changes if I actually have my hands full, but most of the time this arises when I'm not carrying anything.)

I instruct employees to say "you're welcome" if somebody says "thank you" to them. It's a better alternative to saying "yep" or nothing at all and seems more natural. If it bothers somebody that somebody is acknowledging their "thank you" then that's really not their problem.

The holding door thing open is standard, imo. The obligatory "two-step jog" is unavoidable.

Yeah, "you're welcome" is the standard when someone says "thank you."

I agree with the doors thing though; I usually just carry on at regular pace.

The most natural thing of all is answering with "thank you," punching the you since it's a return thank you. It is, after all, a mutually beneficial transaction in which the customer pays some tiny fraction of that employee's salary in an indirect way. That's how I always did it in my cashier days anyway.

I dunno, I guess "you're welcome" isn't even in my vernacular even when I have done something for someone. My reply is usually "absolutely" or "happy to help" or "happy to do it" or whatever. Some of those wouldn't work in a business transaction though.

To a friend I'd probably go for "it's cool" or "no worries" or something, but in a situation where I have to be more polite I probably would plump for "you're welcome."

I do agree that "thank you" is probably more appropriate for cashiers, but most probably just say "you're welcome" because they think it's standard, or they've been told to, without really thinking about it; they're not trying to be condescending or anything.

What is the reason that Coke spends millions on advertising for the Super Bowl? Does it really protect their market share? I mean they're so omnipresent already that it's hard to imagine a reminder of their presence is needed, and it's hard to imagine that a Super Bowl ad is going to make converts from Pepsi to Coke.

You're way over thinking it. When someone says thank you the most natural thing to say back is you're welcome. The cashier isn't thinking "yeah you better be thanking me", he's just responding with the most common response. It's like when someone sneezes, you say bless you. You don't stop to think "this person might not believe in God" you just give them the most common response.

Oh I know this. I think my post was taken somewhat wrong; I'm never irritated with the cashier or anything. I just walk away going, "Well that was stupid, why did I just say thank you?"

I save my irritation for waitresses asking me if I want change when the bill is $23 and I hand them $40 in cash. Of course I want change; don't ask me for a 75% tip.

I'm pretty sure I've never said this once in my life. I fear that they'll think that I want to have an affair with them.

Thinking about it, I usually let the cashier get in the first "thank you" anyways.

Yeah, I am replying for the same reasons

I do think cashier etiquette is important btw; before I moved I used to walk 15 mins to the shop to get tobacco, despite there being like four shops closer, just because I preferred the customer service there.

Got no idea about the advertising thing, it's always baffled me why already huge companies spend so much on advertising.

Yeah I probably won't be able to post as often pretty soon. I'll be starting my job as a pharmacy technician in a few weeks. Should be a pretty good job while I'm going to school.
