i have a lived a few places...

i used to watch vancouver/portland wrestling... piper/rose/oliver/sheepherders were probably the prime years for me.

before that i lived in eastern ontario but all we got was george cannon's wrestling (martinez, sailor white, el santos, chris colt etc.). not even sure they had that many shows. think it was mostly tv. quasi/competitor of cleveland/detroit territory.

didn't get it on tv but was fairly influenced through the newspaper by the sheik's amazing Maple Leaf Gardens winning streak.. would have loved to have had the weekly tv for that. people cared about it so much. funny as he seems like a skinny not obviously tough old man but the psychology was great.

had stampede on tv right before WWF took it over. very very violent and bloody. dynamite/davey/bret/bad news/honky tonk..... david schultz who may have been more popular with fans and better on mike than anyone i ever remember.

I started watching wrestling emanating from Kansas City and then when we got cable, I was watching wrestling from a lot of different areas, Georgia, the Carolinas, Texas, and Tennessee.

I watched Stampede after it was rebooted, with Owen on top and a young Pillman and even younger Benoit. I saw a bit of Lutte internationale out of Montreal, with Dino Bravo as the main guy (didn't stick with that long, for obvious reasons). We also got a show called Pro Wrestling Plus on TSN here in Canada, so I also got to see a little bit of a lot of promotions, including Memphis, Florida, and I think Mid-South and maybe World Class as well. And, of course, I was around for the death throes of the AWA, too, so I got to see a lot of Curt Hennig before he jumped to New York.

Since my fandom started in 1991, not much territories memories for me, but ESPN did air some Global back then. The Lightning Kid (Sean Waltman) and The Patriot stood out, along with Scott Putski.

When I was little, I picked up a weekly show with some territory that had such wrestlers as The Great Gama, Michelle Starr, The Frog, and...well that's most of what I remember. But I sort of think I remember Owen Hart being involved and having his head busted open one week, so perhaps it was just Stampede, especially since I had familiarity with Ed Whalen from something or other.

Apparently Archie Gouldie was very, very underrated and could have been a pretty big North American star. Bret Hart speaks very highly of the guy.

I remember World Class Championship Wrestling being on ESPN when I was I'd guess around 7. I thought the Freebirds/Von Erich stuff was cool. I also liked The Iceman King Parsons and Brian Adams.

It was also around this time that I would see guys on WCCW show up on WCW or WWF and be "squashed" and I remember wondering how they were so good in one federation and bad in another. Perhaps my initial thoughts that these contests weren't on the up and up.

i liked all the old black wrestlers. seemed so popular with the fans. even guys like SD Jones. he is perceived as ultimate jobber due to bundy squash at WM (1?) but he was mid-carder alot and fans loved him.

thinking of rocky johnson as a guy who was really really popular. iceman parsons as mentioned in prior comment.

never saw them but ernie ladd and bobo brazil seem like such great wrestlers. was ladd always a heal?

and thunderbolt patterson broke the sheik's legendary undefeated streak at maple leaf gardens...
