Huge marking going on for that RVD Cena clip. I was there for the first ONS, and used to go to the old ecw ppvs when I could, its really sad that this is the end. I think WWE could have kept the ONS thing going for a long time, the fanbase will always be there and rabid. This also makes me dread the impending RVD TNA debut and how it will just suck compared to this/old ecw.

There was a real worry at the back in the lockerrom during that match that the crowd would literally riot regardless of the result (but esp if they had put Cena over). Also Cena was quoted somewhere that he has worked hostile crowds before but thats the only one where he was worried about some dick jumping the barrier and actually attacking him.

ECW under WWE could never be the same as it was before even if its just down to how out of control the crowd was on that night.

They could have easily made a profitable promotion out of it if they wanted, but Vince just had no appetite to have ECW back beyond the name, it was just a chance to build a third brand off the name and to stop the crowd chanting ECW during matches. If they had built it as a third brand when they first owned the name back in 2001 then maybe it could have ran but WWE was getting out of the Hardcore business even then, it just ****ed people up and they had no interest in shortening careers through repeated table bumps and weapon spots, esp by 2005.

Whilst people say Vince promised to bring it back like the old days i dont think anyone truly thought it would stay around like that.

Btw, fwiw, i look forward to seeing how NXT works out. They are using more of a reality TV format to it and its not as simple as having a third brand sat between FCW and Raw/SD so im curious to see how it works out.

LOL @ Cena working hostile crowds.

Is he not over somewhere? I mean I know he was a heel years ago, but was he even that over as a heel? To where he was worried about a hostile crowd?

He was referring to those crowds where only 90% cheer for him. It sort of hurts his feelings.

The main event is Jericho vs Taker and its chugging along, at one point Taker boots Edge in the face who is at commentary, later in the match Jericho takes the Last Ride and Edge rolls in to spear Taker. So the ref is looking right at this, tells Edge to leave but the match just continues. Pisses me off when they have such inconsistencies in the rules given on Raw they talked about Big Show being fined for hitting the ref accidentally and a few months ago someone got DQed for throwing someone into a ringpost on the outside for "weapon usage". The WWE booking can be lolbad at times.
.
Spoiler:
Wasn't the match NODQ?

And speaking of hostile crowds, why did WCW have so many fans jump the rail/shower the ring with beer compared to WWE?

He certainly gets booed in Montreal and MSG, but they boo all the cookie-cutter babyfaces

As someone that had never seen that Cena/RVD match before:

HOLY ****!

What an awesome match/crowd. In a vacuum, the match was nothing special, but the crowd reaction to every little thing was insane. The end was kind of meh to me, but I could watch the match over and over just for the crowd participation.

i kinda feel bad for cena...his in ring work, while still pretty bad, has gotten better, and it's not his fault that nobody else has drawn as much money in merchandise as him

still, i really think if you want to put cena over the best way to do it is as a heel. granted, i know nothing about the inner workings of wrestling, but you had rocky malvia who was absolutely hated by fans despite an insistence that he be put over as a face, you finally put him over as a heel and he becomes legend.

i dunno, maybe at this point it's too late, and while cena is nowhere near the rock in terms of in ring skill, his natural charisma is not bad at all. i keep thinking cutting him loose and just having cena going heel could be absolutely epic

Quote me on this, the only way Cena turns heel is if TNA moves to Mondays and starts matching or beating the RAW rating.

Cena's too valuable in merch to turn him heel, unless they can develop another megaface.

The best way to book it would be to "bury" him and have him flip out on the old faces. I think that's about the only logical way he would get over.

Just watched Impact, man is it bad from the little I remember

-The ring ramp is stupid and you can't do a running slide-in anymore.
-Pope's Coronation is a stupid move, I'm tired of these moves where a guy as to fall in a certain spot at a certain time that only happens when their opponent has a big move they do there.
-The BP just punching someone when the ref isn't looking when they have their own foreign object right next to the person they're 3x teaming is bad.
-And why is Mr Anderson on TV? Does the whole saying something and then repeating the last word really get him over with the fans? And why was Hemme looking like him whispering Anderson gave her an orgasm?

-ORGASM?

Cena could turn heel if he really wanted to turn heel. He has that much stroke.

Last year around this time the Rock did an interview where Cena challenging him to a match at Mania came up and it got onto the subject of how big he is as a wrestler and the Rock basically gave him some props but went on to say you have never really made it to the top until you are the biggest heel as well as the biggest face and it takes more skill to get over as a top heel, esp in the industry today where the crowds often cheer the bad guy.

Id be shocked if that didnt bug him for a while.

As it stands there isnt really anyone leading the way as that cheesy frontman mega face but in a couple years i can see it. The trouble isnt just that Cena sells merch, because heels also sell merch, its that they are investing further millions carving out a film career for him and its easier to do so when he is face than a heel, especially if you are of the opinion that someones WWE character should translate over to their film character.

If the crowd response goes the way it does, if they position one of the current up and comers like Kofi to be the leading face and if Cena wants to do it i can see a heel turn regardless of everything else happening around him re TNA etc. I mean the trouble is he is too damn over as a face. When a heel beats down a face on the show, even on Smackdown, the crowd chants for Cena to come out for the save. Now for that reason he will be a HUGE heel when/if it happens but in the meantime in this economy fixing a formula that is working is not the number 1 priority of the company.

definitely not a "fact" article, looks like just someone's guess/rumors, but that would be pretty awesome (but 2 minor stars headlining WM would seem odd.

Morrison vs Punk (w/ Mercury)
Sheamus vs HHH
HBK vs Taker (meh)
Cena vs Batista
Orton vs Dibiase or Rhodes
Miz/Show vs Hart Foundation (or Cryme Time)
Mcintyre vs Mysterio
MITB w/ Kane, Hardy, Christian, Shleton, Kofi, and Bourne
(altho no MVP, Henry, or Swagger)
could actually be a solid WM....but I severely doubt anyone would put Morrison winning the EC over Jericho, would be a definite and huge swerve though and could be awesome

doesnt that card not have jericho or edge in it esp with edge having a title shot?

Wow, that rumoured card would be solid. However it doesnt address what HHH will be doing unless they have him win the WWE title and then have Edge challenge him. Which i cant see like ever.

Will be interesting to see where we are after the EC, there are so many rumoured cards flying around its hard to know what to believe right now.

Lol i must be tired
Forgot about em, but it talked about having Jericho winning MITB and taking Edge's spot, and Edge challenging the WWE Champ, so Edge vs Sheamus vs HHH maybe? That'd be lame...possibly Edge vs Orton, Dibiase vs Rhodes, and Sheamus vs HHH non-title as a no-dq or something? not sure
a long edge vs jericho feud after WM would be awesome, esp if jericho won mitb

But ya, the EC leaves tons of openings, and is definitely great for WWE, they're putting on some solid matches (finally), some good feuds building up, and hopefully a great WM

I for some reason didnt notice this the first time i watched the match, but did RVD get injured in the first elimination chamber (2002)? I just cant imagine the way they wanted to eliminate him was to have him do the frog splash and then get insta-pinned by Booker T after he did his finisher.

He wasn't injured at all. He wrestled this match vs Booker and Jericho the next night on Raw.
