Luke can get over on his own, Andy needed the win.

You know I'm actually still bitter about this all these years later. Bob Backlund was the first wrestler I ever "liked" as a kid. I thought it was terrific that he got a major push years later against Bret Hart, and was estatic when the Hart family threw the towel in to save him from the cross-faced chicken wing. I remember tuning into WWF Superstars to savor the first weekend of the 2nd Backland world title reign and having a huge mark-out WTF/mad reaction seeing the clip of Diesel kicking/jackknifing Backlund in 10 seconds. I mean, I'm sure it was a condition of Backlund beating Hart that he'd have to job the title in fairly short order, but 2 days later in 10 seconds still burns me.

Re: Official WrestleMania Thread
I think the squash in that spot is a good way to put over a monster who you're giving a new push to. As detailed a couple of weeks ago, I think that Nash's title reign was booked brutally for the most part, but that booking is tough to argue with. It's like putting Warrior over Honky so quickly at SummerSlam '88. But yeah, they could have let Bob hold on for like a month or something. This was back when there were only five PPVs per year, so there was a decent bit of time with which to get the title on Nash between the Survivor Series and Royal Rumble so that he could have that first big defense against Bret Hart.

No matter what, its not going to be a "massive mistake" for anyone coming out of TE because TE doesn't matter in the long run enough. It's more likely than not that we'll never see any of these people in WWE for any significant time because none of them really seemed like they could be anything special.

I thought this was going to happen, but instead we get this weird segment with Vince slapping the **** out of him. The entire ending of that after Andy was announced the winner had a strange vibe, like I couldn't tell if that was the Mr. McMahon character or if that was really Vince. Obviously everyone knew Andy was taking a Stunner (which he sold like garbage), but I have no idea why Vince thought it was necessary to slap him other than some kind of hazing ritual. DON'T BE A BULLY VINCE.

Andy needs serious work in order to be any kind of regular guy. He has weird facial ticks and expressions that don't come off well and he talks way too fast when he's on the mic, probably just a side effect of being really nervous. I do think he could make a good Diesel clone, but only time will tell I guess.

It was my understanding that the Mr. McMahon character was retired after the Bret Hart match so I guess that's Vince.

His fierce "shut up" is a Mr. McMahon staple.

Re: Official WrestleMania Thread
If they have big plans for Andy and his whole Silent Rage, they should have him come back (when ready) and destroy Vince for that slap. Would be an awesome way to introduce him as a monster.

Re: Official WrestleMania Thread
Andy is not Nash's size. Andy is Jack Swagger's size. With that said, I do not think Andy will ever be close to what Swagger already is, let alone a big time star. To be honest, I would have been happier if WWE kicked both of these guys off Tough Enough and just resigned Mike Knox.

Re: Official WrestleMania Thread
I actually really liked Christina, was gutted when she got injured, because she seemed to be getting really on point up until then. She is the only possible long-term star i can see from this series.

Re: Official WrestleMania Thread
Still think you guys are underestimating Luke. Amp may be right that he didn't need to win. I think Luke could have serious trouble with the rest of the WWE locker room given his attitude, but that same attitude works great in front of the crowd, and I thought he handled himself on the mic pretty well during the RAW segment. He was MUCH better than Andy and got some decent heel heat.

Oh yeah, Jeremiah got a GREAT face reaction from the crowd, which surprised me.

If you have any recollection to where ITT the discussion of Nash's title reign is, please link, I'd like to check it out.
Anyway, a nice detail from wiki about the 10 second job:

In a 2005 interview for the Pro Wrestling Torch, Nash fondly remembered how Backlund sold his Jackknife Powerbomb by crawling up the aisleway back to the dressing room area of the Garden. Nash said, "He couldn't have put me over any stronger." This match, in addition to being the quickest WWF Championship match ever, was also the last time that the WWF Championship changed hands at a non-televised event.

BTW, had one of my biggest and most exciting surprises in recent history today, as CM Punk's theme song came on the radio. Instantly jacked that **** up and about blew my speakers in my automobile!
