Anyway, it's too bad that the Patriots showed up too late and that as a consequence we're very likely stuck with the bad guys winning the division, but unlike what SRM said in a thread not about this topic, the game next Sunday night is far from meaningless. It certainly means less than it would have if the division was realistically on the line, but Niners are still playing for a bye and the Seahawks would be far better off with the 5 seed than the 6. Playing at the NFC East winner looks infinitely better than a first round game in Green Bay or San Fran, though with the way the Seahawks are playing they're far more dangerous than IRM cares to admit.

Most importantly, if we win and keep the Niners away from a first-round bye, it brings us closer to the possibility that the Seahawks could outlast the Niners in the playoffs. And if they do, there can be little debate that this thread title would need to be changed.

So, enjoy your boys' trip to Seattle on Sunday. And for once take a cue from me on how to behave in the wake of a game. Remember all the taunting I did of PJ after the Seahawks won in Chicago? No? Exactly.

I literally have zero fear of San Fran next week. Easy money on the hawks, dont really feel bed for 49ers bettors. Theyll get what they deserve

IRM,
It's time to let your true feelings and fears be known about this upcoming game. You know, the meaningless one to be played this coming Sunday night.

fair enough

1. seahawks scored 50 points in back to back games on barely nfl teams
2. kaepernick scorched the patriots for 41
3. 9ers d skull****ed brady and company save for the 15 minute period justin smith was out
4. seahawks are thoroughly outclassed in literally every facet except maybe kicker
5. the seahawks are an 8-6 team

And all of that adds up to SF winning this coming game what percentage of the time, in your opinion?

now you said that before the season i was concerned the seahawks would take the division. that is correct. but it would be intellectually dishonest not to say WHY i was concerned. niners schedule gave me pause and i was worried it would be a 10-6 season. @GB, @NE, vDET vCHI. with alex smith as qb i did not imagine it was possible to go 4-0 over that stretch. they did. and alex smith is not qb

iirc i did assume before the season the niners would lose in seattle. again, alex smith is not qb.

It would be intellectually dishonest of me not to state reasons that you never expressed to me?

come now, you're better than that. you're citing a post i made in the preseason where i predicted how both teams would do on a game-by-game basis

I'll go wrangle up that post. In the meantime, all I asked about was this Sunday's game. I think it's fair to say that SF wins this division now ~96% of the time, so that's not really at issue anymore. You think SF wins this Sunday's game what percentage of the time?

65-70% (i will not bet accordingly)

plus the schedules (though both still pretty ****ing hard) favor seattle

made this prediction (assuming health) a while back, i think it's still about right. good chance sf @ seattle decides the division
You put the game predictions in quotes, so a person would have to click through to see those. In any case you never made mention of anything about "this is assuming they don't bench Alex Smith, in which case they'd be significantly better."

In any case I know that your numbered list above is significantly exaggerated from what you actually think of the coming matchup.

This is the rate at which NFL favorites of 6-7 points win games. The early lines on this game range from PK to Seattle -2.5. Are the objective lines really that far off?

Well no, not really. A single game result doesn't do much to prove how far off an NFL line is.

I think it's fair to say that the line set forth by an objective market is more likely to be accurate than the line set forth by the fan of one team in a game.

So mods,
Clearly this thread title gets changed if the Seahawks outlast the Niners in the playoffs, right?

I said "if." There were no declarations. And since I'm forever your role model when it comes to exhibiting class and grace after winning, I can't very well hoot and holler for it after the fact if it happens. That's why I'm forced to bring it up now.

Yup yup. Would have rather seen you be stuck playing in the first round and then playing at Lambeau, but not much doubt you would have mopped up Chicago with relative ease most of the time. At least Minnesota-GB III will give us a far better game next weekend.
