At least, they still got Michael Elgin who is under contract with NJPW, but I can't see him attracting a bigger Western audience like Styles and Omega.

Elgin is a bigger draw in Japan than he is here and its not really close.

Cody is basically the only option and his ring work is lol compared to these guys

I started keeping up with at at the 2015 G1 Tourney when AJ Styles was there. Its relatively low maintenance at any time other than the G1 tourney so its easy to keep up with. I'm also a massive Tetsuya Naito fanboy.

G1 is the GOAT.

Yeah there isn't that much of a commitment to watch NJPW, there's no weekly show or anything like that, just a bunch of events during the year. Like daro said though, G1 is a different story and is like 15 events in 30 days or something, still very awesome though.

If Omega goes to the WWE this year I will be very surprised. I know money talks but he's consistently stated that his dream is to be a top Japanese star and it would just be weird to leave now that he's on the verge of winning the top title. Also I'm pretty sure they're holding off his title win for the US tour, I don't think you'll see him in the WWE until at least 2018. A lot of that is also wishful thinking since I don't want to see him anywhere near WWE.

Well this is a step in the right direction:
Quote:
We have some huge news today for New Japan Pro Wrestling fans in the west, as the promotion has announced an unprecedented amount of events featuring English commentary in 2017.

Following the massive success of Wrestle Kingdom 11, live in the Tokyo Dome earlier this month, Ring of Honor’s Kevin Kelly will return to announce The New Beginning in Sapporo on 2/5, headlined by Kazuchika Okada defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Minoru Suzuki, and Hirooki Goto defending the NEVER Openweight title against Juice Robinson in the biggest match of his career. The New Beginning in Osaka on 2/11 will also see English commentary, headlined by Tetsuya Naito defending his IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Michael Elgin, and Katsuyori Shibata vs. Will Ospreay.

While Kevin’s partner for the February shows hasn’t been announced quite yet, he noted on Twitter recently that he was “working on a surprise”. Here’s a full list of confirmed NJPW events featuring English commentary in 2017:

New Beginning in Sapporo (2/5)
New Beginning in Osaka (2/11)
45th Anniversary Event (3/6)
New Japan Cup Finals (3/20)
Sakura Genesis (4/9)
Wrestling Dontaku (5/3)
Best of the Super Junior Finals (6/3)
Dominion (6/11)
G1 Climax US Specials (7/1-2)
G1 Climax Opener (7/17)
G1 Climax Finals (8/11-13)

Watched the Good Ol' J.R. edition of Omega vs. Okada. I can confirm that it's still a great match. Once that top rope dragon suplex happens, I'm still screaming and gasping at every high spot and every near fall. The call by JR wasn't as legendary as I'd have liked but it did have one great call. When Omega hits his top rope dropkick to the back of Okada's head midway through the match, JR has a fantastic call which is worth seeking out.

Kenny Omega was on Taz Podcast today talking about his future.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5pfdz0ECag

And a lot of people were saying "oh well he cant be at the Rumble because his contract doesn't end until 1/31 and the Rumble is 1/28".

But Kenny said something interesting today where after Nakamura, AJ, Gallows/Anderson left, the company started giving unique deals to there stars to get them signed right away and usually they're signed until 1/31 but I guess instead of waiting some stars have different contracts starting 1/5, 1/6, 1/7 etc...And Kenny said he was one of them with a unique contract deal....

So my thinking is he signed a new deal last year on 1/5/16ish after AJ and Nakamura left and thus making his current deal end on 1/5/17 the day after WK11 (Which was probably why on the New years PPV he was booked in some 6 man mid card tag BS match lol)

So maybe all in all he currently is unsigned and not having to wait until the 1/31 deadline and maybe just maybe if I understood him correctly from the podcast...maybe he can be at the ROYAL RUMBLE!!!!!

I think he is currently "UNSIGNED" and is negotiating and I think WWE is a major player right now. I used to think it was 50/50. But I think after hearing this its like 70/30 WWE.

PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN WWE!

Yea I'm sure he's eating all of this up. But on the other hand he doesn't seem like the guy that would purposely troll the fans.

I really do feel he wants to "Make Wrestling Great Again" lol

Doesn't care about $$ or whatever but what I gotta question is would he really go without the Young Bucks? They just signed 2 year deals with ROH/NJPW....

If he resigns with NJPW its got to 100000000% be for 2 years. What are you gonna sign a 1 year deal just to lose again at WK12? Makes absolutely NO sense. Might as well just go to WWE when you're the hottest wrestler in the world right now.

If he stays in NJPW and wins the strap at WK12 and then obviously would resign another year then lose it at WK13. Then all 3 of the Elite would be FA's and go to WWE.

Word was the the Bucks got SUCH an incredible offer from ROH/NJPW that some in WWE were saying they would be foolish to turn it down...So who knows???

Dave Meltzer always said he doesn't think Kenny will be at the Rumble because of the contract ending on 1/31 which now as Kenny said might not be the case

So should be interesting....

Now another question is if Kenny did sign with WWE and debuts at the Rumble would you rather.....

A- Him be an entrant in the Royal Rumble (Where I highly doubt he'd win) If he did OMGG LOL

B- After the Cena/AJ match...Lights dim or Kenny's theme hits and Boom! Stare down in the ring...AJ/Kenny @ Mania LOL

Just stop, you don't know anything about him if you think this, he is notoroius for it. The only wrestlers that troll more than him are Owens and the Bucks. Iso is right, he's just keeping his name hot, he's done this type of thing before.

I know you're blowing your load right now because he's cool and you just found out about him but go back and read up/follow his career, he's not going to the WWE anytime soon.

Yea you're right I'm just speculating.

Maybe he's trying to keep his name hot. But on the other hand he'll let his matches do the talking for him lol

Also don't be such a buzzkill lmao. I've been fan of NJPW for couple years so I know what you're talking about. I just want WWE to get better its been nearly unwatchable recently.

Yea I think my opinion changes daily.

I just listened to the Wrestling Observer interview and I just really don't know. The fan in me is being biased and wants him to come to WWE just for the super matches that can happen.

But then comments ITT make me wonder is he really just trolling? Who knows LOL

If it comes down to the Rumble and he hasn't made an announcement I think he goes to WWE.

I think the big revelation was that his contract is already up and not having to wait until 1/31 like many originally thought. Would he really lie about that? But again I really cant see him leaving the Bucks behind.

This is why he's a genius phycology in the ring with the head games he puts the fans through LOLZ

Nobody who comes in makes an announcement. Just think back to AJ last year. It was reported but not announced.

I hope he stays in Japan. It'd be a disaster for NJPW if he left

Yea my fault that's what I meant...I'm sure the dirt sheets like rajah will have "sources" in the next week or so with rumors. I just hope it stays up in the air and not ruined if he goes or stays. I don't wanna know when watching the Rumble.

Last year with AJ there were rumors but when he came out I was shocked. I want that same feeling this year with Omega if it happens.

Just sucks bc if he does stay in Japan it has to be for 2 years he wont go back unless he wins the belt then if he wins he obvious resigns another year. (Unless he wins strap b4 WK12 which I doubt that would be dumb. "Okada/Omega II" headlining WK12 is the way to go)

And AJ is already 39 years old He'll be friggen 41 and I wanna see AJ/Kenny headline a WWE PPV

I know I'm markin out but hey f**k it that why I love wrestling

I just have a hard time believeing that the WWE can watch what this guy is doing over there and come away with any other idea than they have an opportunity to get a younger more charismatic AJ Styles type.

AJ being a massive success on the main roster has changed everything with how they view guys like Omega. Combine this with the fact that his stock will likely never be higher than it is right now it makes sense for Vince to back up the money truck and for Omega to take it.

They're definitely already throwing big offers at him but I think his stock can get much higher, especially with the US tour. Him winning or defending the title during the US tour PPVs and having another 5 star main event at WK 12 will no doubt help grow both his and NJPW's name recognition even more. The more he builds NJPW as a whole the more his stock goes up with the WWE and he's in an almost perfect position to maximise his value. I think he spends most of 2017 at the top of NJPW, loses the title at WK and debuts in the WWE in 2018.

Honestly first ever Non Japanese born winner of the G1 is a far far bigger run than the IWGP heavyweight title. He doesn't need NJPW at all anymore and I don't think having the risk of a letdown or injury is worth compromising his current momentum.

Yea and I just cant see him winning the strap anywhere else than the biggest stage in the Tokyo Dome next year @ WK12 rematch. The hype would IMO be bigger than Cena/Rock and that was HUGE. Which means he wouldn't be in WWE until early 2019. That would suck, but I hope they go with your plan lol. Sooner the better for Kenny debut.

Do you think any of his moves would be banned in WWE? I mean that knee might be banned lol. That would KILL his character imo. He needs that knee to set up the One Winged Angel.

Reminds me of the Orton punt LOL or Rollins curb stomp with concussions nowadays....ehhh
