So many exclamation marks. I think I just entered into a bet with a drunk dude.

A drunk dude whose next avatar I have already picked out, since his team is the NFC counterpart of the Colts, the two "just happy to be in the playoffs" teams.

In all seriousness the Skins do worry me - they have enough going on that obviously they could upset us at home - but I'm reasonably confident. Our roster >> their roster. Carroll >>> Shanahan. But we'll see.

I am both very happy and very drunk. I'm not sure which one I'm more of.

You might recall how the Redskins' last trip to the playoffs ended.

As to how Washington's trip before that ended, well...

But otherwise we've never beaten the Redskins in the playoffs.

You know what's even more ancient? 1999.

(You know, the last time the Skins had a playoff appearance that didn't end with a loss to Seattle.)

Again this is a new year. None of those players are on the team anymore. This is a completely different game. I don't know why you keep bringing up the past, there's plenty to talk about from this year.

We've got a whole week. Dredging up the past is part of the process.

Alright I'm sober now and ready to start the trash talking! If we are going to talk about things in the past that have no value to the next game, let's not cherry-pick what we post. Instead let's talk about the most important thing in football, Super Bowl victories.

Redskins SB trophies:

Seattle SB trophies:

Now while I do think the Redskins will win because:

is > than:

I'm not going to guarantee a victory like:

There are however two things I will guarantee.

1. I will not be "classy" or whatever the hell you call it if the Redskins should win. One of the best things about sports is celebrating when your team, and by celebrating you are also loling at the team you beat. This is playoff football, there is no worrying about the feelings of the other teams.

2. I will not be as kind as IRM and others have been when cashing in their "Avatar in the Bank." I am going to pick an avatar that I know you will hate. And I will enjoy the 1 month that you have to use it.

Go Skins:

I will be your role model anyway should the more likely result occur. Thankfully, my principles are good and unbending.

Let me guess: your principle on just how relevant this is to ongoing trash talk depends on whether the fan you're talking to has a team with more Super Bowl trophies than yours does or not? Because "let's not cherry-pick" seems likely to be out of place...

I'm saying there should be two ways you talk about teams:

1. Only talk about the current team this year. This is the better option of the the two. Talking about anything else in the past seems very stupid because it has no outcome on the game this week.

2. If we must talk about things in the past, why cherry-pick and only pick the moments that make our team look good? If you're going to talk about the past you should talk about the entire history of the franchise, not just the one year your team actually did something. You don't want to sound like the people in the LOLSTEELERS thread.

Yup you're a great role model who never rubs it in when his team wins and the other team loses. I hope one day my principles can be as "good" and "unbending" as yours.

I never know why people think that the Hasselbeck "we're gonna score" moment is always seen as an effective point of trash talk toward Seahawk fans. I mean on a simplistic level I understand it, but I think that's an entirely popular moment with most of the fanbase and that very few Seahawk fans wish Hasselbeck hadn't said what he did.

In any case, bragging up titles from before you were a fan (before you were born in at least one instance I think?) is...interesting.

Thank you. I'm sure I don't have to spell out the difference between a game that ended five years ago and a game that, once it does come and go, ended five minutes ago.

If I do need to explain that, let me know.

The point I'm making is it shouldn't be a big deal in either case. It's a game after all, part of being a fan is hearing about it when your team loses. Trash talking is one of the things that makes sports so good. I've dealt with people loling at the Redskins for 20 years, just have good comebacks and don't get butthurt.

Well, you seem to be a passionate fan, as I am. Granted that it's just a game, so admittedly much of this passion is all pretty silly to begin with, but it's no more irrational to be pissed off in the direct wake of a big loss than it is to be ecstatic in the wake of a big win. And while obviously you're never happy about a result of a game, the result tweaks you exponentially less as time passes after the game is over and done with.

When a friend and I have talked trash up to and perhaps during the game (which I obviously do enjoy), at the completion of the game I'm always going to lay off. On top of enjoying my team's victory, do I take delight in the suffering of the fallen fans? Well, sometimes. But even in those cases I know that the result is already out there taunting them for me. Why would I rub salt in the wound? Why wouldn't victory be reward enough for me? Why the impulse to make another fan even angrier at that moment? My humanity compels me to leave it alone.

Anyway, I don't think we'll have to worry too much about these "if the Redskins win" hypotheticals, so the philosophical discussion is probably wasted effort.

Washington's wins came against these teams, listed with their FO defensive efficiency rankings:
Giants 18th
Browns 19th
Ravens 21st
Vikings 22nd
Buccaneers 25th
Saints 27th
Cowboys 30th (twice)
Eagles 32nd (twice)

Their losses came against...
Bengals 5th
Rams 9th
Steelers 10th
Panthers 11th
Falcons 12th
Giants 18th

Seahawks are ranked above the Bengals and obviously everyone else on that list. Washington has not shown any real ability to succeed against a good defense.
