Supposedly, their best match was at a house show in Anchorage, but there's no video of it.

Terry Funk vs. Triple H (I just think this has potential).

TIL that WWE does house shows in Alaska.

Rockers vs. Hardys

A dream card:

Seth vs Okada - The swag in this match would melt the earth.
Brock vs Nakamura - In creating this, I had to think, "Who's legitimate against Brock". Shibata with his MMA background is but Nakamura also has that and more starpower, also IWGP champ, and 3-time IC champ.
Bryan vs Tanahashi - Arguably the two best wrestlers for the past 4 years.
Cena vs Naito - I think Cena does good vs highflyers so just throw this together.
Cesaro/Kidd vs Young Bucks - To spite The Usos and this would be a good match.
Honma vs Ziggler - Two underdogs that deserve a push. Not a main event push but upper-midcard push. Seeing Ziggler sell Honma's offense would also be hilarious.
AJ Styles vs Orton - Two guys who can't talk and are overrated in the ring.
Opening match: The Usos vs Shibata/Goto - A fun squash match which sees The Usos nearly beaten to death.

Notable omissions: Wyatt, Ambrose, Reigns. Yeah.

Should have happened. Guessing neither guy wanted to do the honors for the other.

Yeah the story is that Hogan didn't wanna do the job. Believable obviously but not sure why he was happy to lay down for Rock but not Austin.

Apparently WWE is going to Japan in a few weeks. Hopefully at least a picture of the two with their respective belts since they're both IC champs . Wish that match could happen.

"Young just before Rockers break up" Shawn Michaels vs Prime Mr Perfect

Just watched a small taste of what this match wouldve been like, an amazing little exchange in the 20 man battle royal during the April 1991 edition of the Main Event

These 2 got down to the final 5 and went at it with speed, the end of the exchange culminated with Shawn Ric Flair flipping up the turnbuckles then Perfect ducking his apron clothesline then elbowing him to the floor

If only they broke up the Rockers a little earlier, they wouldve had some ridiculous matches

Meltzer gives it ****. I gave it ***3/4 in the Perfect tribute thread. Definitely a good match.

Watched the match that was voted top match of 1993 by Observer readers, Manami Toyota and Toshiyo Yamada vs Dynamite Kansai and Mayumi Ozaki, 4-11-93, 2 out of 3 falls. Announcing not in English but still better than the Raw team by virtue of at least adding a bit to the atmosphere via voice inflection. It is a match still deserving of 5 stars today. Great workrate and selling, a mix of hard hitting stiff strikes, high spots, high flying, tag team combo moves and more technical wrestling.

On this day 23 years ago, one of the best matches in wrestling history occurred in front of one of the most rabid crowds in wrestling history. Shockingly, this crowd happened in Japan. Announcers are way OTT as well. I'd put this match in the absolute top 15 matches in wrestling history, if not top 10. The match is short at 19 minutes and the crowd is molten lava so it should be easy to get through. Go ****ing watch it!

Kobashi/Kikuchi vs Can-Ams

I'd recommend that match to just about anyone^. I care about the crowd less than most (I grew up watching shows that intentionally had crowds composed of non-wrestling fans so they wouldn't give away results of taped in advance shows) and it still is really good.

I happened to watch that tag match about a month ago, it's as good as advertised.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the match that put Mitsuharu Misawa on the wrestling map. He faced Jumbo Tsuruta in the first of 28 5* matches from 90's AJPW. Probably in my top 3 of matches I've watched the most.

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the greatest match in the history of wrestling. Misawa/Kobashi vs Kawada/Taue. This is probably in my top 5 matches watched ever. I can call nearly every move in this match. Absolutely brutal match with so much drama and emotion in it.

Going to bump this because 1) I have a new 5* match to announce and 2) there are new posters who may want to post here.

Added to 5* match list:
Intercontinental Championship match
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Kota Ibushi - Wrestle Kingdom IX (1/4/15). Amazing match. Go watch it.

I know these two wrestled in real life and it sucked but undefeated champion Goldberg vs Lesnar on his monster push after his debut seems pretty interesting.

Yeah, Goldberg after beating Hogan vs. Brock the month after beating Cena would be a pretty damn good match.

Three random Flair matches that I watched the past couple of days:

Flair vs. Savage - WM VIII: Elizabeth. Love love love this match. So great. Happy to have seen it when we did the GMoaT tournament because I may well have never watched it. My third favorite Savage match (behind WM III and VII). Flair tries to brutalize Savage to win and when that doesn't work, Perfect waffles Savage in the knee with a chair to try to get the W but just can't eek it out. So ****ing great. Elizabeth.

Flair vs. Hawk - Bunkhouse Stampede '88:
Hawk with near Norton-esque selling here. Never bought Hawk winning and the finish was all kinds of bad (Flair hits Hawk with a chair in the ring while the ref is watching). Flair plays the heel so great here. **1/4

Flair vs. Perfect - Monday Night RAW January `93:
LOL Rob Bartlett. Vince screaming at the top of his lungs, Rob in a completely monotone voice, "wow". A really meh match where nothing really happens and the crowd sits on their hands. Flair, again, plays the heel great. I hadn't seen this since it originally aired and my 12 year old self loved it, but now, I wish I'd left it a memory. **.

Flair vs. Vader - Starrcade '93:
I liked this a bunch more than the last time I watched. My third time watching and perhaps this time was a charm. There were definitely some silly moments but for the most part they both played their roles well with Vader dominating Flair and Flair getting a bit of offense in and getting the fluke victory. Why no rematch?!?!?!?!? Worst finish of all time, though, and that keeps this way down. The hometown crowd is amazing when Flair's on offense. ****1/4

Other matches:
Bret vs. Piper - WM VIII:
I didn't really like this that much. Bret did his thing. Roddy bumped awkwardly and made Bret bump awkwardly. Clearly wrestling wasn't Piper's thing. He's a storyteller and mic guy. That being said, I'd give this ***1/4.

6-Man Dragon Gate match in ROH that everybody here loves that I've already rated 5*. I was thinking of going through my 5* matches and trying to rate all of them to figure out the GMOAT. I put this one on the very bottom tier of that list because it's very unrealistic and bidness exposing. Very illogical at points where the face team lets the heels have a control segment making Hariguchi have to get a tag when you don't need to tag in DG.

Have said it in my two of my other threads, but definitely had the same experience with Flair vs. Perfect. Loved it during my childhood, found it to be surprisingly bad when I did the Hennig tribute thread, did it again for the Meltzer 4-star thread hoping that I was just in the wrong mood the last time, and it only confirmed for me that it just isn't good at all. Think I may have rated it even a bit lower than **. Both guys are just totally off their game, and the match doesn't work; it's especially bad in light of it being a blowoff grudge match between two guys that kayfabe hate each other.

Always enjoy seeing Flair-Savage from VIII get some love. Awesome promos from both guys right after the match too.

Didn't rate Savage vs. Flair. I think high ****1/4-low ****1/2 is right. Undecided on which, so perhaps the 'ole ****2/5 is the best thing here.
