They're removing just as many from the HOF every year as they're adding these days.

The bolded is what I always assumed/understood happened. I've read/heard a lot of stuff over the years and just about all of it comes back to Vince and a briefcase.

I'm kind of hoping it comes out that Vince bribed the DA and everyone involved goes to jail.

If wwe has to remove vince mcmahon like hogan/benoit they won't have anything on the network.

Three different sources, three different answers somewhat. Who knows which one's right, but they all say he really clobbered him with a normal coconut.

This is what I knew I read in Piper's book. Says he really cracked him:

Doesn't look quite right to me to be a normal coconut. Looks like Piper gets him more on the side of the face than the hard part of the head.

The inconsistencies above are one thing that tells me that's the kayfabe line. These old guys lived for the business and they were all brought up where you NEVER broke kayfabe, and even if they shoot a little bit now, they'll still sell the big stuff, and no doubt this was a big one. The defining moment for both of them really; Piper for sure.

Other things that make me pretty sure it was gimmicked.

1. Piper uses some good misdirection. Drops a bunch of clearly hard coconuts on the table, then reaches in the bag and never drops the one he hit him with. Could have easily been marked with a marker, or much lighter, etc. Makes it much easier to believe all the coconuts are the same when he really has one that he obviously protects as the gimmicked one.

2. The coconut busts apart too easily. You'll have a tough time busting one against a brick wall. No doubt even if you hollowed it out or otherwise softened it, that's still a hard shell that's going to hurt if you get cracked in the head with it, but Snuka would have been in the hospital if not dead if that wasn't gimmicked to some degree.

Piper hits him more on the ear than the hard part of the skull. There's no way in hell Snuka's not ktof'd into lala land for a while if that coconut wasn't cut in some way.

Also, why would Snuka bend down there if not to prepare for the shot?

This is the closest I can come to finding Snuka break a little. It's amazing that every interview I google about it, he gives a different answer. I can't much from Piper about it except for what was in his book.

In 1983, Snuka was about as popular as any WWF wrestler ever was.

His face turn/injury angle in late '82 is one of my favorite moments in wrestling. Unfortunately, the video isn't on YouTube (it used to be).

Looks like they're going for the "not competent" defense. The way the article is written, either he's really in bad shape (not knowing days, etc), or he's going to have to put on one more good show to not break kayfabe this time.
