Agreed, it really isn't that close. Punk is awesome and all, but it would be amazing if he ever achieved the legendary status level that Andre has, and he certainly hasn't come anywhere close yet. Punk might be able to edge out Andre if you only count the WrestleMania years, but counting Andre's prime...there's just no way.

Punk is at the top in an era where Andre would be rated somewhere between Big Slow and Khali. He is simply a better worker all round.

Edit, imo of course. I dont think its as obvious as Kenta Kobashi being better than Foley.

First, Punk isn't at the top. He happens to be holding a title when he's 3rd billing on the WrestleMania card. Being at the top means that if you're on a PPV, you're in the main event. However, it would be completely ridiculous if they put Punk-Jericho on last on Mania. That match also has less interest for the average fan than HHH-Taker.

Used to be simple enough to determine that having the belt meant you were the man. That simply isn't true now since WWE decided to desecrate its own belt with bull**** modern-day booking. Punk is #2 in the company during a down era that will be seen as kind of a dark time the next time we get a wrestling boom (I'd certainly like to think there will be another).

I don't discount his chance to perhaps reach way higher heights eventually, but nothing he's done so far puts him in all-time legend status. If he suffered a career-ending injury tonight, 10 years from now people would look back and go "Oh, yeah, he was awesome for a while." In 20 years he would be what Magnum TA is today.

None of that is meant to disrespect him since I am a big fan of his.

When i say "at the top" i dont mean the very top guy or even considered he was WWE champ. I mean he is one of the very very top main event guys in the biggest company in the world where him at his worst is still better than most of the good on their best day. He is so valuable they do the unique thing of putting him on commentary when he gets injured.

I mean by your measure Rock was never "at the top" as Stone Cold was the number 1 guy to his number 2.

i always thought andre was incredibly overrated

He was #2 and was never really all the way at the top. Of course, being #2 in the Attitude Era (and not that terribly far behind #1 at that) is pretty ****ing amazing and still leaves him as one of the all-time greats.

Well at least I made it to round 3 before voting for Dwayne. Sucks that I've voted against Undertaker 2 times out of 3 but he's had a really tough draw (and will get through anyway). Jericho's also had a brutal draw and there may be a bit of personal bias creeping in since I'm more familiar with his work, I'm not sure. His round 2 and 3 matches were both extremely close though, I basically gave them both to Jericho because of his mic work.
