Simple question. Which one of these men helped shape and create the best matches, angles and storylines the most and give a reason why.

I thought about Teddy but the only major match he was involved with in his career was the first Flair/Steamboat match. Not to diminish his ability but he didn't have as many major matches or memorable moments as the others....

and i have no idea how people don't notice them! for example, in the greatest matches thread Chioda refs the HHH/HBK Hell in a Cell. Contrast his massive dramatic 2-counts and awesome 3 with the ****ty ref who partially ruined HHH vs. Undertaker and tried to ruin Cena vs. Punk at MITB.

While Charles was/is a solid ref his frame work as a ref doesn't match with the other refs. His little naitch gimmick was great and his match was spot on.

hahahaha epic slide. i wish they wouldn't have overbooked that match so badly. could have been just fine with SCSA/Hall on their own. Hall GOAT worked punch IMO (right behind Angle and Bret Hart.)

tpir is spot on. Here are some example's of what a ref means to a storyline or a great match:

One of the many classic Rhodes/Blanchard matches. If you watch Tommy Young through this whole thing look how well he sells the mess up and how much it means to the angle.

Joey Morella's near 3 count at WM3 with Hogan and Andre is another great example:

David Manning had several instances but the one I love the most is the melee tag match with the Von Erichs against the Dynamic Duo which nearly caused a riot at the end(starts at the 5:28 mark):

Anyone watch Scott Hall VS Stone Cold at wrestlemania? The ref that SUPER SLIDES into the ring is amazing, he seriously slides like 10 feet to start counting

That slide is AMAZING! Not only does he slide 2/3 of the way across the ring but he stops in exactly the right place and starts counting seamlessly.

For me Earl Hebner will always be the first name I think of when anyone mentions wrestling referees. He was a hugely recognisable face during the Attitude Era and he did so much before that going all the way back to him and Dave costing Hogan the title back in the days with the evil twin ref angle.

Charles Robinson comes a close second just for still rocking the 'washed up '90's boyband member' look.
