This thread will work as follows:

- Each day I will post 4 new matchups from the bracket.

- Voting for each match will be open for 3 days

- To vote, BOLD the name of the match you want to win. Example: HBK/Angle. I will be using a vote counter for this thread, so while I did it by hand in the nomination thread and counted everything, in this only the BOLD names will count.

- At the end of the 3 days, whichever match has more votes will advance. In event of a tie, the higher seed wins. In event of tie still, random.org will be used.


- I will just be posting the NAME of the matches without a write up for these rounds. If you would like, feel free to post a link, give a write up for your match of choice, etc. All of these have been chosen by us, so I think rather than have me write a few sentences on every match getting someone passionate about that match to give their take would provide better content (also I'm lazy). This will likely change as the tournament progresses.

I'll be holding off on my vote until I get a chance to watch a couple more and seeing if any writeups sway me. The biggest uncertainty for me right now is TLC II vs Rock/Austin. Same show so crowd/era considerations are nonexistent. Also looking forward to catching the Kobashi match.

Brutal matchups. Rock/Austin over TLC 2 is an easy vote for me even though I love TLC 2.

I'll think on War Games vs. Sting/Vader, and I'll have to watch Kobashi/Misawa before voting on that matchup.

Hart Foundation/Team Austin, Canadian Stampede '97

Rock/Austin, WM 17

Like LKJ, I'm going to have to watch that Kobashi vs Misawa before voting, though I do really like that Bret/Owen match.

As for the WCW matches involving Sting, I'll let others that are way more knowledgeable about WCW in that time period vote it with justice.

Austin did commentary for his own match for that particular Rock/Austin match. What he says there blows away anything I could say about it. I'll just mention that it has perhaps the most misguided heel turn in wrestling history. Not only did people not want to root against Austin, a large percentage of fans at that time were into wrestling solely to root for him. WWE (and US wrestling as a whole) never has recovered to the popularity level it had prior to Austin's turn.

TLC II, to me, is a side dish match, not a main course match. Yes, it is entertaining, but I'm not filled with anticipation weeks in advance to see stuff like that.

I give both the War Games match and the Sting vs. Vader match ****3/4. I can't easily make a call on that one, but I see from my Meltzer thread that I gave Match of the Year to the War Games when both were fresher in my mind, and called Sting/Vader the runner-up, I guess that should carry my vote. But man it pains me to vote against that Sting/Vader match. That **** is all kinds of awesome.

War Games '92

Dear God, that 1-32 matchup is all kinds of insane. I mean, I don't really think Bret/Owen is No. 1, or Misawa/Kobashi is really No. 32, but still. ... I would vote for either of these two matches over any of the other six being voted on right now. One of them is going home without a win. ... and I can't believe I'm voting out Bret/Owen.

Kobashi vs Misawa, '03

The second match is an easy vote for me ... I've watched the Canadian Stampede match multiple times and for whatever reason, the match itself I just can't get into. The surrounding environment/Hart family stuff is great, but that's not the match.

Savage vs Warrior, WM 7

The third match is an easy call for me, too ... mainly because that Vader/Sting match is all kinds of awesome.

And I frankly think the Rock/Austin WM17 match is severely overrated.

I swear I didn't even realize I was repeating LKJ's verbiage on the Sting/Vader match.

I like how I voted for War Games and now I'm rooting for people to vote for Sting vs. Vader.

I'm going to watch the other 4 matches and then decide despite seeing each multiple times.

Kobashi vs. Misawa over Owen vs. Bret was a no brainer for me. Owen/Bret was phenomenal and had a great story but Misawa/Kobashi also had a great story. Kobashi's first singles match with Misawa was in 93 and he beaten him eight times until he finally passed the torch to Kobashi in this match. Kobashi had pinned him before in a tag match when Kobashi debuted the Burning Hammer. The match was absolutely incredible. It also includes one of the sickest bumps you'll ever see in your life which I'll refrain from posting for people who haven't seen it yet. A war of attrition. Possibly my most watched match since I got into puro wrestling in 2011.

I put Savage/Warrior over the 8-man because I've never been all that fond of the 8-man. It's good and all but I don't consider it near an all-time great match. Savage vs. Warrior is historical.

I just love Owen claiming victory off an obvious stalemate on the first lock-up of the match, and Lawler earnestly celebrating from the broadcast table over it too.

32. Kobashi vs Misawa, '03

I only ended up watching this the last time isolated brought it up and loved it. Watched it about 3 times since then. I love Owen/Bret but I think this deserves to get through more.

29. Savage vs Warrior, WM 7

Mark bias on this, was my favorite match as a kid. I don't mind the 8 man but I never ranked it as highly as others.

23. Vader vs Sting, Starrcade '92

Just watched both of these when reading LKJ's thread and enjoyed the singles match much more. I liked War Games but don't know if I'd ever go back to it in a hurry.

19. The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin, WM 17

This one was easy for me. Most people hate the finish but I loved it at the time.

Cena/Punk vs Joe/Daniels/Styles 05 is easily the hardest round for me. I just went back and re-watched both and still really like both matches. Cena and Punk tell a better story and had more significance but the other is my favorite 3 way dance of all time and is just sick from start to finish.

EDIT: Link to the 3 way dance. They rematched it in 09 so making sure people watch the right one.

Kobashi/Misawa

Was going to abstain from this matchup because of my unfamiliarity with Japanese wrestling, but then I watched and goddamn this was incredible.

Hoping for a tournament some time that is exclusively non-WWE/non-WCW.

8-man Canadian Stampede match

I wish we could have factions that made sense and hot crowds that didn't annoy me in present day WWE.

WarGames

Hell of a fun match, but I wouldn't be disappointed if this went the other way.

TLC 2

Count me in the camp that believes that Rock/Austin is super overrated.

Just to confirm, end of tomorrow (Sunday) is when this round of voting closes? If you guys find links to matches, posting them would probably be great too so we don't all have to search for ones we may need a refresher viewing on.

Kobashi/Misawa

This match is a legitimate contender for best match ever of its kind. I see Bret and Owen as being a notch below that, and at the time it wasn't even considered the best match on the show.

I agree that we should do a no WWE, no WCW tourney at some point.

Savage/Warrior

I don't think this match or the Canadian Stampede match are in the top 32 matches of all time, but I can see how this match has a legit legendary story even if it personally isn't my thing. The Canadian Stampede is just a good faction match in front of a great crowd, and good factions are quite a bit easier to do than the past 15 years of WWE would have some believe...

War Games

As WCW used to show. War Games matches are non-standard matches that actually have psychology and intensity, a personal favorite of mine.

Rock/Austin

Virtual tie but this match is more historic.

Man, even as great as the Shawn vs. Razor match was, it's hard for me to believe that the majority opinion back in 1994 was that it was better than Bret vs. Owen.

With regard to Savage-Warrior, I'm certainly a big fan of it, but I seem to be more bothered than basically anyone else is by the thing where Warrior suffers one finisher kickout and then just decides he's going to walk out on his entire career over it.
