Vince McMahon wanted to rename Vader "Mastodon" and had to be talked out of it. Vince has always been inclined to see guys of that size as rather goofy characters rather than monsters so the deck was always stacked against Vader by WWE creative because his character was a completely serious monster heel. Not to mention Vader was very stiff and WWF did not look kindly upon stiff working.

Story has always gone that Vader was supposed to go over for the WWF Title at SummerSlam '96 though, and it was those Shawn Michaels politics that stopped him in his tracks. After he went under instead, he was kinda ****ed.

Michaels initially became upset with Vader for working stiff with him very early in Vader's WWF career. A lot of guys who came into WWF around that time rubbed somebody the wrong way for being stiff. Though Michaels of course may have played politics just as hard regardless.

This. Vader was slated to win the belt at Survivor Series and lose to HBK at the Rumble. After SummerSlam, those plans changed and they inserted Sid in that role.

Is that where Jim Ross got the nickname from or vice versa? I seem to remember him calling Vader 'a big mastodon'.

This is really cool. Can't believe TLC 2 is out and Eddie vs Rey at Halloween Havoc (2 of my personal all time favorite matches). I guess Bret vs Austin is one of the greats too so how fair is that.

Won't be taking place due to not having seen half the matches due to my young age. Good luck with this, it's awesome.
