Favorite Wrestler Ever? Favorite Wrestler Ever?

I'm just a huge Goldberg hater and that's one of the reasons. I don't want to turn this into a me vs Goldberg fans thread so I'll just leave it at that.

I say Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and HBK.

Randy Savage for me. He was just entertaining as hell, face, heel, didn't matter. My five favourite matches ever are all Savage matches - Warrior at WM VII, Steamboat at WM III, Flair at WM VIII, and Honky Tonk Man and Bret Hart on back to back Saturday Night's Main Events.

Bret Hart is a close second, Chris Jericho an even closer third.

I can't really pick a favourite wrestler ever. I started watching at the end of the Golden Era as a kid and Hogan was my favourite, then the New Generation came along and I was a HUGE Bret Hart fan. The Attitude Era rolled around and my favourite during that period was The Rock.

It's funny how your tastes change and what you want and enjoy about wrestling changes as you get older, I don't even particularly like any of those 3 anymore. Since then the two wrestlers I've liked and been entertained by the most would definitely be Rated R/ Ultimate Opportunist Edge and suit and sulky face Jericho.

You have great taste in wrestlers my friend. Though I was always more of a HBK fan rather than Bret.

Pretty sure he was just making a joke about how WWE "fixes" stuff to magically remove Benoit.

All right, then, I apologize for that statement then. It just that if the WWE wants to magically remove Benoit from the records, the only way its going to work if the viewers is going to not even know that there's a Benoit in the first place, however, I'm never going to forget about Benoit's workrate/matches, and no one is going to change my opinion on it.

Unless they can guarantee me that Pokerstars is going to be legalized in the states with no problems, then I can go ahead and play along with the removal of Benoit and "forget" him.

Thing is Benoit was a bad bad dude and probably deserves for his career to be forgotten forever; however, that obviously isn't possible for a long long time. WWE is still a publicly traded company and while it might seem pretty dumb and pointless to remove him from their history books/programming it makes sense for a couple reasons:

1) The younger generation is less likely to become familiar with him. And to a degree keeping him off TV screens does allow people to forget about him.

2) They don't want to look like they are still profiting off a murderer.

Oh no, I totally agree with all of the above, but you know, probably like five years along the line, the new watchers might ponder a few things. Like, who won the WHC match at WM XX, or who won the Royal Rumble 2004, or, who did Randy Orton beat for the World title at Summerslam 2004?

Its perfectly reasonable to omit the tv matches, and the PPV matches from DVDs, 24/7, and promos, but, you know, its so to walk around the edges for so long, though the WWE have done all they could for 4.5 years, and its working for the main public.

Though you have people, like us, who talks about wrestling history and all of that and we, sometimes, somehow, manage to talk about Benoit and everything great that he did before the tragedy.

I don't know how well the analogy holds, but I don't see why Chris Benoit should be treated any differently in the professional wrestling business than O.J. Simpson has been in the football world.

Simpson is mentioned on a near weekly basis during either a college or NFL broadcast it seems, as he's held many NFL and NCAA records and was an amazing football player and general. The announcers just mention those facts and move on; what happened off the field doesn't have to be mentioned. The NFL and the NCAA haven't blacked-out Simpson's 2000 yard season or his Heisman Trophy. There won't be a "NFL Presents: The Life of O.J. Simpson," but at the same time if there was a "NFL Presents: The 20 Greatest Running Backs" he would certainly be on that DVD.

I think the WWE should take a similar path with Benoit. His name should appear where it belongs, you can name his accomplishments when appropriate, and then you move on. Every great match he had or title he held or accomplishment he achieved wouldn't have to be prefaced with "tragically he killed his wife and children and then himself."

I think the difference is that one of the major arguments against Benoit is that a lot of mainstream media see wrestling as being the CAUSE of the murder suicide (no matter how irrational it is), while on the flipside the NFL is never blamed for O.J. clearly murdering his wife.

As a kid watching the NWA in the early 80's, The Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant was my favorite. I got so pumped when I heard "The Boy from New York City" start playing. When he feuded with Ivan Koloff, it was the first time that I had ever seen the anti-US gimmick, and I totally bought it.
