Any chance whatsoever that this is a work?

It's the WWE. There's always a chance it's a work.

But it's not likely.

I would have someone interrupt his retirement speech, which "forces" Bryan to un-retire.

I can't believe this is a work; if somehow it is I will both be offended and mark the **** out at the same time.

What I do genuinely wonder if this is a retirement retirement or a retirement from WWE and he goes elsewhere since they won't clear him and his other doctors will.

When I heard about Bryan's announcement I was at 80/20 it was legit. But I got a notification on my phone about it from WWE and for some reason that made it more like 95/5 that it's legit now. But who knows.

I am curious to see how it's worded tonight because he has stated he wants to keep working and his doctors cleared him, so if that is still the case, if he says he is retiring from all wrestling, it could be a work

Copy pasta from reddit:

Quote:
Dave Meltzer:
"I seriously doubt this is a swerve of any kind"

"Dr. Joseph Maroon was not going to clear him. It was an effective "no" for quite some time."

Sometime back, when he was wanting to wrestle again, (It would have been ROH & NJPW) two doctors cleared him (UCLA doc and Arizona Cardinals doc). Vince McMahon would not side against Maroon. Bryan asked for his release, Vince McMahon said no.

Thursday before Royal Rumble, Daniel Bryan went to New York to have more tests done. Dave says Bryan will probably expand on that tonight.

"If you're really really smart, the testing methods they usually use for concussions ... the rest of your brain can compensate and create new pathways ... and it over-rides the bad areas ... essentially you can beat the typical tests."

The new test he had in New York is more thorough and checks all of the areas of the brain. "Danielson found out about (this test) and decided it was what he needed" It shows different levels of damage and how the brain heals.

The test was done the Thursday for the Rumble. He says that they'd need to do a test after a month and that the timing is odd. He got the results of the first test January 28th. There was going to be more testing done. "Maybe it scared him."
Dave thinks this is Bryan's decision, not WWE's.

A really talented wrestler. He was superb in ROH and brought me to watching it and getting into the indie scene.

It is hardly surprising though, considering the risks and spots he has taken - neck, head. Unfortunately if you are that high-risk on a daily basis it will catch up with you sooner rather than later.

I also wonder if this is an actual retirement or a retirement from WWE.

I doubt very seriously he's wrestled his last match even if he has for the WWE and that worries me

That said, the prospect of bryan v angle might be enough to get me to watch some TNA

The last I heard (within the past month) he wrestled there and is apart of a storyline.

I read yesterday or today that he gave 2 weeks notice and Vince basically used a clause in his contract to veto it due to the amount of time he's missed over the term. Seems like Bryan is still very willing to wrestle if he gave notice and wanted to get his no-compete clock started. Wouldn't be surprised if this was a work, and certainly wouldn't be surprised if they came to some sort of agreement that allows him to retire from WWE and begin working with another company down the road.

Seems like a good opportunity for Bryan to pass the torch to Reigns and give him the "YES" chant to help him get over.

Pretty sad, but glad we at least got to have that Wrestlemania where he put on a GOAT performance and got to be on top of the world. Hilarious to me that it almost didn't happen.

On that note, I'll always be grateful to the Minneapolis crowd that lit torches and made it official on behalf of fans everywhere that the earth would be torched if WWE didn't cave.

If that crowd had been a bunch of marks, Daniel Bryan never reaches the top of the mountain.

I think I need to go back and rewatch from Summerslam 2013 thru Wrestlemania to relive the Daniel Bryan title chase

It was the PPV crowd in between Royal Rumble and WM XXX. See Batista vs. ADR, when WWE pulled really obvious and transparent booking ploys to try to force the crowd to accept mega-face Batista, and Minneapolis instantly saw through it and gave WWE the exact opposite reaction they wanted at every point.
