Build the Best Wrestling Company for 2017 Draft Build the Best Wrestling Company for 2017 Draft

There is one person who has gotten himself over on his own in this era better than anyone else. 4x WWE Heavyweight Champion, PWI's Wrestler of the Year in 2013, 9x WON's best technical Wrestler (although some were under a different gimmick for this draft's purposes I think)

Spoiler:

8th Overall Pick - Daniel Bryan

I would assume no too but would like clarification on this as well. Also, do guys come to the ring looking exactly how they debuted or are we assuming their look is modernized to 2017?

For example , since I don't think he will be drafted, does Warlord come to the ring looking exactly like this:

Or exactly like that but a modernized 2017 version? Think this makes a big difference wrt value (specifically for older guys) of people in this since a lot of the older costumes look quite tacky and would never debut looking that way in 2017 and the way I understand it this is a timeless gimmick draft of sorts if I'm understanding correctly.

I'm wondering about the starting from scratch vs. already over thing too, particularly for well known wrestlers starting a new gimmick, and out of wrestling stuff before this gimmick started.

Sorry, I know I've done a bad job of explaining what I mean.

I'm aware it's my turn btw.

In fact since it's my pick I'll just ask outright. If I take heel Hogan is he already a world wide megastar when I get him, or is he unknown at the start of my fed?

Yeah gonna be a lot of interesting stuff like that to come up in this. In the case of heel Hogan being a world wide megastar was so essential to the initial gimmick/debut/turn that I think you get the stardom but I'm cool with whatever Dylan decides.

I don't think there are many other cases outside of specifically heel Hogan where this applies (as far as guys with strictly wrestling resumes go - Brock pick obv gets his UFC crossover).

Just my opinion but I think you should get whoever the person is at the start of the gimmick

Kinda along the same lines - if we take versions of guys that are now part time are we allowed to work them full time?

I'd assume if their gimmick was full time you get them full time

If their gimmick is "I'm modern Brock Lesnar and I only show up 10 times a year" I would assume only getting him 10 times a year is part of that.

I'm just a lurker but I think it would have been more interesting if you were drafting talent alone and how you would get them over as a rookie in 2017 instead of drafting gimmicks. Right now it's basically just a "gimmicks that still kind of hold up" draft.

Well, we've done those sort of drafts a few different times in the past IMO?

Yeah I really like this format and think it changes a whole bunch of stuff and opinions will vary widely once the details and parameters are worked out. Draft going to be a lot more subjective as opposed to the objective drafts normally done around 2p2.

So for the Hogan example, if you draft NWO Hogan you get the nostalgia and history of Hogan, but none of it occurred in your company. You're just getting him from that point in his career, but the fans know about him from the past. I hope that makes sense.

Yes everyone is full time. Longevity and injuries don't matter at all. It's up to you to argue that it would work for a long period of time. Like if you want to draft present day Undertaker. You get a guy who is a legend, and fans know all about, but he is just debuting in your company. You have to explain if he would still be as over if he wrestled every day, as opposed to drafting Taker in 1997 who wasn't as big of a legend as he is now, but we know was relatively over wrestling week in and week out.

We get that at the start of that gimmick, but the fans know about their past. Certain gimmicks don't work without the last, like NWO Hogan.

He looks exactly like that. It's why 1980's Hulk Hogan is likely the number 1 overall pick in a normal draft, and in this draft he goes later.

What about ring apparel? Do guys with "costumes" (not sure how to word this - guy's unlike Punk/Bryan and like my Warlord example) have the exact same look as they did in the 90s (this seems to be when this was most prevalent) or do they have to exact same look just modernized? This matters quite a bit for a lot of guys from that era imo.

I guess if you feel it's important to the gimmick to make him part time, then make him part time. It's up to you what you do with who you draft.

He's known throughout the world, but he will be debuting in your company as NWO Hogan.

There's one example specifically where this is almost draft breaking and a super duper clear consensus number 1 if one sees the goal as to make the most money/get the most ratings as opposed to putting on a quality product me thinks. Which is weird since I have no idea who I'd have number two assuming this is what we're doing.

Btw I really think all of the latest picks have been good. I had Goldberg, HBK, Punk, and Bryan all as first round picks.

Ok I'm still not quite sure of what's happening and kind of wanna go in a different direction now but I guess it would be bad form to pick someone else at this point so...

Pick #9:

Spoiler:

I think the differences in what would get over now as opposed to in the past are being overstated but I do think undrafted loses quite a bit of value so I'll go with Hollywood Hogan. Already a huge star in and out of wrestling at the start of his run, Hogan should ensure that plenty of people are tuning into my product. Also from Dylan's posts it appears I get the nWo brand so that's a bunch of merch sales right there. Not the greatest in the ring (especially in 2017) but can main event against anyone and get a bunch of my faces over, has bundles of charisma and honestly can tell a pretty compelling story. Maybe all wrestling fans would hate him in 2017 but that's fine since he's my top heel.
