They're able to successfully book him as a monster because of his accomplishments in MMA. He was not booked this strongly all the way through his initial run (although he started out this way). He eventually sold as much as any big man though.
Then he came back from being UFC champion, where they could even explain his loss away to illness, and nobody could stop him.
WWE has had MMA guys before. Shamrock was booked as a maniac, but nowhere near the level of Lesnar. Brock is their legitimate beast. A beating would call that into question. Well, he can only beat 50 year old men in fake fighting at this point in his life.
A win or competitive fight only reinforces where he's already at. They can't book him even stronger.
