In this thread we post our favorite moments of wrestling in 2016

This was the biggest HOLY **** moment for me

Let's see....

HHH won the Rumble.

Reigns won a WM, in which I can't even remember anything else significant happening.

Summerslam ended in two consecutive no finishes, one wasn't even a match.

Survivor Series was decent until the WTF Goldberg squash.

Honestly, the one thing that's coming to my mind which may be my favorite thing in wrestling (or at least the most immediately memorable) is........

I discovered Jeff Cobb/Mantanza.

I can't think of anything from WWE that will be a memory for me in a years time and that usually isn't the case. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that I thought was pretty good was that 51 minute 5v5 SS match. AJ was solid but I wouldn't call any of his match MotY quality or over 4 stars. Not so coincidentally I'm in my longest stretch of not having the network at 5 months now.

NXT is a different story. Nakamura vs. Zayn was incredible with tons of #shelflife. The biggest disappointment to me was Finn vs. Joe when Joe got busted open and the trainer(s) ruined the match. I probably only watched about 3-5 minutes after that happened because it was so annoying. I never went back and watched. I love blood bath matches and I wanted to watch these two go at it. I'm sure they're tested very well for diseases, why does the Dr. have to stop this blood? **** PG ****.

If it makes you feel better that match would have probably gone on to suck because it featured Finn Balor.

I havent gotten to watch too much NJPW this year, so I can't speak to Naito (though from what I've heard Omega has been elite this year), but Styles -> Mundo seems like a clear cut 1-2 in the US.

Speaking of NJPW: you can watch all the tokyo dome shows for free for a limited time on njpwworld at http://njpwworld.com/c/t_0000_2016_41?lang=en and I'm currently watching styles/nakamura from this year <3

Roode has single handedly saved NXT, Nak has been kind of a flop aside from his fantastic debut with Zayn

Unfortunately, with the one hour show, we only see Roode about once a month.

Asuka has been great and Joe has been awesome.

I'm kinda liking the Sanity thing too. The girl cracks me up.

Can't wait for them to bring up the Powers of Pain, slap some makeup on and squash them every week.

With the exception of NXT Takeover: Dallas, which was a great event, but I didn't like the main event due to the ref stoppage to stitch Joe back together, I haven't watched anything WWE-related at all. I did watch plenty of NJPW so here's what I got. Order below means nothing.

1. Kenny Omega winning the G1 Climax giving amazing five-star performances on back-to-back days on route to winning it.

2. Kenny Omega vs Michael Elgin in a ladder match. I would think having a ladder match in NJPW could have been disastrous if the crowd wouldn't react well to the ladder spots, but these two work really well together and took some brutal bumps (especially when Omega took a powerbomb from halfway of a ladder onto a table and the table didn't break.)

3. Katsuyori Shibata really establishing himself as probably the most dangerous/vicious/brutal man in all of wrestling right now where he just won a lot of singles matches in hard-hitting matches. Here's a gif of him doing a headbutt. I know some people are rightfully squeamish about headbutt spots, so I'm going to be this in spoiler tags since this could be borderline NSFW.

Spoiler:

4. The G1 Climax as a whole. Some would think losing Karl Anderson, Kota Ibushi, and AJ Styles to WWE would hurt the tournament, but them being gone forced NJPW to push guys to step up and those guys that stepped up certainly made the most of their role including Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, Katsuyori Shibata, and Michael Elgin. Tomohiro Ishii was probably the best wrestler of the block/tournament giving amazing matches, including a tremendous match against Okada. Heck, the attendance of this year's G1 Climax as a whole was larger than last year's. Truly, the greatest tournament on all of professional wrestling today.

People would think losing Ibushi/Anderson/Styles would mean the end of the line of NJPW this year, but NJPW persevere and had a great year and 2017 looks to be promising, hopefully with some G1 Climax shows in SoCal as rumored.

I doubt NJPW fans thought this. We have faith as Gedo as a booker. He's done great with every seemingly wacky thing that he's done and made many stars since the boom of NJPW started in 2012.

They would have been pretty ****ed if Naito wasn't on the verge of becoming hotter than the sun after like 4 years of failed attempts.

Looking at my write-up, how did I forget NJPW losing Shinsuke Nakamura to WWE? That would have been a fatal blow for them. Nakamura was really onto something when he stated somewhere that he wouldn't leave NJPW until he is very sure that they would be fine without him and he was right. They were fine without him, somehow better, mainly due to the rise of Naito.

My Match of the Year:
Well really it's a 1a and 1b situation it's almost impossible for me to pick one that I'd rather watch all day every day.

1a. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. AJ Styles - WK X
1b. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn - NXT: Dallas

2. Naito vs. Omega - G-1 Tournament on 8/13

I do have a series amount of watching I need to do if I want to make a respectable list. I need to watch or rewatch:
Tanahashi vs. Okada from WK and G-1
Dolph vs. Miz - Retirement match
Sami vs. Kevin - whatever ppv this was
Tanahashi vs. Ishii - 8/3
Omega vs. Goto - G-1 finals
Alexandar vs. Ibushi - CWC
6-man match from PWG that got 5*
Okada vs. Ishii that got 5*
Tag match from NXT: Toronto
and others.

Some day....

I watched less wrestling then usual (and I don't watch much outside of the US).

I think the matches I most remember are the two Revival/DIY matches and Nakamura/Zayn.

Most of the main show WWE stuff was ok, but never great, and NXT has really been struggling the last couple of months :-(
