I ended up voting for Rocky's return as my mark-out moment, and think it would have been a lock to win if it happened in the past month.

I just tried to rewatch the HHH and Friends Raw and I couldn't make it pass Vince returning. Everything about it is just as bad on second watch. Though I did lol when HHH said to get a broomstick in the ring and Cena came out.

The Sigh. Really? Really? Award

Spoiler:
CM Punk becomes John Cena

Spoiler:

The warning signs started when Punk returned for Summerslam when he was on the top rope dueling for cheers with John Cena. Then we saw that he started his own superman act. He was pandering to the crowd. He made sure to center himself in the middle of the camera so it catches his merchandise perfectly. His mic work became less edgy and more ******ed (3 minutes of puking panatmining, being all racist to alberto for no reason, throwing out random namedrops to be "cool"). Then came his WWE title win where he nosells the arm injury post match and does the perfect Cena intepretation with the fans.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

But the whole thing culminated at TLC, where CM Punk completed his transformation:

- 2 heels vs him, no big deal
- get somehow trapped to make it seem like hes going to lose (BECAUSE HOW ELSE COULD HE POSSIBLY LOSE TO TWO PEOPLE)
- at the last second escapses his predicament to overcome ALL THE ODDS to retain his WWE championship
- poses for fans

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

As an aside, I really hate that I hate this. I hate that I can't ever find complete happiness with wrestling. "CM Punk is amazing yet he's stuck feuding with Mystero and loses every PPV ever. They need to push him" -> Punk becomes WWE champion and arguably the companys top face -> "Waaa waaa now he's like Cena".

Feud of the Year

Spoiler:
Randy Orton vs Christian

Spoiler:
This wasn't even close. Christian and Randy Ortons feud during the summer over the World Heavyweight Championship was perfect. Absolutely perfect. You got emotionally invested in Christian after he lost the WHC after only two days when it took him 15 years to get it. You understood the obession causing his heel turn. It was an angle that made sense and more importantly: mattered. The matches themselves were top notch - each and every one of them. I honestly can't tell you which my favorite was. What was beautiful about them is that they build on each other. For example: Christian loses the WHC in the first match by jumping backwards off the turnbuckle into an RKO. In their next match at OTL (4:24), Christian pump fakes jumping off the turnbuckle the exact same way, randy goes for an rko with nobody home, and Christian then jumps and performs a flip into a pin. It's the little things like that which made the matches so damn good. For those of you that love the poetic endings: their feud comes full circle at SummerSlam where Christian leaps off the turnbuckle the exact same way and gets caught with an RKO.

Match #1: Christian (c) vs Randy Orton on Smackdown 2 days after Christian won the WHC vs Alberto Del Rio.

+inf. you should give yourself an award for these latest write-ups. thanks for putting so much time into this. really enjoying it even if it is mostly a reminder of how awesome we thought a lot of this stuff would be by the beginning of 2012 and how miserable it is in practice. i still blame vince and stephanie and hhh.

That writeup sucked almost as much as your local sports team's most recent loss.

Great writeup.

Ziggler's a great choice, but I just wish he'd change his finisher. The zig zag's just weak imo.

Christian vs Orton was great, but I just can't get over Christian jumping off the corner into an RKO when it just doesn't make any sense at all. What's he trying to do other than getting caught?

It's not JIm's fault, its the fault of ALL YOU PEOPLE reading this at home.

YOU PEOPLE are the reason these award writeups suck. If it wasn't for YOU PEOPLE this would be the greatest award writeups thread of all time.

Completely disagree Ziggler is the 2011 breakout star. Sorry but its clearly Cody who last year:

1, started out with the new masked tortured soul gimmick returning after Rey "broke his face".
2, went on to WM to beat Rey in the sleeper hit match of the night with a solidly dominating performance.
3, developed the bag part of the gimmick to get himself over more.
4, developed an entirely new way of delivering promos to fit the gimmick
5, had a great little feud with Orton including having his face almost literally broken with a ring bell to mirror 1 and dropped the masks and the bags
6, debuted the old style IC title and started making it look important as he carried it about with pride despite for some reason rarely being booked to defend it
finally 7, closed 2011 clearly being the next new world champ with a fully matured zero "gimmick" no prop gimmick delivering awesome promos full of confidence, world class ring work including a bunch of really unique signature moves and he oozes attitude and ring presence whilst working the crowd like the second gen star of a significant wrestling family that he is.

What works against Ziggler is that he:

1, relied on Vickie to get most of his heat. Still probably does.
2, he has already had a world heavyweight reign. For like half an hour.

Im a huge fan of Ziggler and saw a lot of potential even from the "introduction" gimmick years ago so i cant hate on it too hard obviously, but i think in terms of progress which i think "breakout star" is the best measure Cody is ahead of Ziggler. It clearly cant be put on the fact Ziggler has this WWE title match at the RR so he is more successful just for the fact that in that case it should surely be the WHC Bryan or the 2 time WWE champ, Royal Rumble winner and Wrestlemania main eventer Alberto Del Rio who is the 2011 breakout star.

It speaks volumes about the Orton/Christian feud that they had no less than SIX high quality matches this year. In today's WWE it's almost unfathomable that they could put two guys together for that long and keep it entertaining without resorting to a 'Christian's balls on a pole' match or some ****.

Im mad at creative for not letting him go over once tho

Summerslam was the PERFECT place to go the "Randy had him beat but tried to hurt him more instead of get the win and Christian capitalized"

But its nitpicking

loving the write-ups.

gotta say i couldnt disagree more about the tlc match; in fact i think thats easily the best thing punk has done since turning face, and possibly a top 5 match of the year in entertainment value.

ziggler just might already be in the top 2 sellers of all time (hbk). thats pretty insane given how new he is.

it frustrates me so much that vince is ****ing with his character both with the head shave and now this whole "show off" thing. the rest of the wwe should try to be more like zig, not the other way around. btw im calling this now: dolph ziggler will be the best face the wwe has seen in a long time when he finally turns.

Its quite probable that Ziggler has been making the changes himself or at least he has a strong hand in his character.

Fwiw the Cena match that Punk was compared to is considered on of the best Cena did because it had such a strong story to it. I completely disagree and think it was level 1 bull**** and says more about how bad his other matches are, but i loved the write up like most people and the Punk character change into a weird Cena and HHH mix is a completely accurate description of the events since Summerslam.
