Peter King (R-NY) Introduces an Online Gambling Bill 2013 Peter King (R-NY) Introduces an Online Gambling Bill 2013

This bill would legalize all online gaming except sports betting. Look for a Poker only bill from Joe Barton (R-TX) in the next month or so. Hopefully we can get those two bills to conference or attached to something.

Great

How would this work with taxes? You're already talking about a game in which only 15-20% players are long term winners (if that many). If winnings are now taxed, or the site jacks up the rake in order to pay the government, etc, games would be almost unwinnable.

Most of the players who were winning significant amounts of money were already paying taxes. For sites like PokerStars a 35% is just a drop in the bucket. My guess is things won't change much for the players except maybe less promotions. I doubt that would even be the case.

Assuming it passes, how long should we anticipate waiting before seeing an unsegregated U.S. player pool back on Stars?

somehow missed seeing this on my daily yahoo browsing. should be interesting to see how far this bill it makes it.

Here is the link to the bullet points of the bill: http://theppa.org/legislation/2013/0...of-2013/#link3

If you haven't already, like Poker Players Alliance on Facebook. They are pretty good about posting news.

AFAIK, playing online poker isn't illegal. The act of transferring money from your bank account to the operator and v.v. is.

They find a way to circumvent the law, which is why it takes 6 weeks. They will get caught eventually.

What do you mean "caught"? Neither the networks that are operating right now nor the players on them are breaking any laws.

You mean, if the federal government just decides "I want dat!!" like an infant again they'll just come seize our money? Believe me - we know. They do it in every market globally. If they see money and they don't get a percentage...they just take a percentage.

Almost sounds like you want someone to get "caught".

Any update on the bill?

Your choice of words is unfortunate when posted on a poker forum.

In the United States, or in the individual states, nothing is illegal unlesss the government says that it is. If I want to keep a pet pig in my house, that's perfectly legal if there is no law against it in my state or city.

There are very few places in the United States where playing online poker is illegal, the state of Washington being a notable exception.

In fact, online poker is going on right now in Nevada, licensed and regulated by the state. The US Department of Justice recently ruled that the Wire Act was intended to apply only to sports beting.

Poker, both live and online, is legal in the United States. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Can someone PLEASE send that memo to Pokerstars and Full Tilt already? They clearly believe it is illegal for otherwise they would not have abandoned the lucrative US Market

You might have missed the fraud that Stars and FTP committed that lead to them leaving the US market.
