Re: Connecticut might be next about Legalizing Online Gaming

Just catching up on the news and this is freakin awesome! CT used to suck ass (and in many ways still does) but its def becoming one of the cooler states... 2011 MJ was decriminalized and hopefully 2012 will give us the return of online poker

There was also an article last night saying playing poker online in Connecticut is a class b misdemeanor, and the Republican leader of the state senate wants to make the penalties even worse.

Not sure if you can call it the friendliest state when they want to give you a misdemeanor for playing.

Here is an except for an article by CT new Junkie

However, McKinney read from a letter to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from Justice Department Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich, which said the opinion “provides much needed clarity to those state governments that would like to permit wholly instate, non-sports, Internet gambling.”

“So the very department that issued the decision has recognized publicly that the decision does not allow for Internet gambling throughout the country. It is not inevitable,” McKinney said.

State statute makes businesses transferring gambling information a Class A misdemeanor. It is a Class B misdemeanor for an individual to engage in online gambling, he said. McKinney cited a CTNewsJunkie story in which Rep. Roland Lemar, D- New Haven, used his iPad to demonstrate that Connecticut residents can already access online gambling.

He was able to fill out the site’s application and enter his credit card number from the Legislative Office Building during a Finance Committee meeting. Lemar said the only thing he didn’t do is click start. McKinney said it’s a good thing he didn’t.

“Had that individual actually participated on that site, he would have committed a Class B misdemeanor under Connecticut law and I would assume that’s why he didn’t do it,” he said.

I read the whole article and it just sounds like stupid political BS to me. This Republican senator D-bag is going to trash anything the Democratic Gov says and today it happens to be online gambling.

You can just see him salivating and hoping the guy to clicks submit so he can get on his high horse and have him be the first person ever in the United States to be brought up on charges of gambling online.

It may be a misdemeanor but seems like one of those old unenforceable laws. What schmoes like him dont realize (and the Gov does) is that whether CT does it first or not:
A) you can already gamble online in any state including CT illegally, but very easily and without any real legal risks
B) It will happen eventually whether its on a federal level or another state like NJ will beat them to it and then I'll just be playing on Caesars online poker room rather than the Mohegan Sun online poker room

yuck...not liking what I'm reading lately. Let's hope something passes in our favor on a federal level.

Just amazed at slow this process is moving forward. Understand that is our process in a democracy, but billions of dollars in tax money lost every year. Just makes no sense.
