#CA A. Approps. Comm. releases #iPoker bill AB431. Bill heads to Assembly floor, where it will remain inactive 'til after upcoming hearings.
The hearings he references are on June 24 and July 8.
My personal sense is that tension between stakeholders is escalating, not dissipating. That leaves basically two options for getting a bill done:
1. The Amaya coalition attempts to steamroll the Pechanga coalition.
2. Some sort of grand re-thinking of the whole deal (like the PokerStars platform being available to all operators).
#1 is more plausible than #2, but the most likely outcome of #1 is lobbyists cashing a bunch of checks and nothing happening.
To that point, from a
recap of last week's California Gaming Conference:
Quote:
Legislators “are not going to get in the middle” of a dispute between the Pechanga and Morongo tribes, said Lloyd Levine, a former California assemblyman who once sponsored an online gambling bill.
