Spreading the word about DraftDay

Hey guys,

Thanks for checking out DraftDay and our 2p2 forum. I've always received great feedback from the poker community so let's see what we can come up with here.

We launched DraftDay 3 months ago and the results have be great so far. Customers seem to love the site and we're growing at a nice clip. We think we have a great idea of where we need to take the product, but we're kind of clueless on how to get the word out.

Anyone have any suggestions for us? Thanks for anything you've got!

-Taylor

You need to be hitting up places that have young guys with some money to blow. Some places to check out off the top of my head would be college campuses, esports websites and get a facebook campaign going if you dont already

Re: Spreading the word about DraftDay

Certainly the obvious things are a good place to start. Facebook, twitter, forums. Is a commercial legal for this? Or maybe it has to be like Stars/Tilt did and would be Draftday.net, play for free!

Whatever channels you do go through to get the idea of this out there, there's definitely two key starting points. First and foremost I don't think the general public has any idea that Draftday games are legal. Before you guys put up the new forum here and had that fist freeroll, I honestly had never heard of these things. I'm also generally fairly in tune with this type of stuff, so the fact that not even I knew is a pretty strong testament to the fact that not many others do as well.

Then you have to emphasize that people can come and play for free. Let them know all about the Perfect Lineup game and what not. Yeah, if you end up getting thousands more entrants in that game every week eventually someone is going to hit it, but you'll be hitting the bank for way more than a million long before that happens.

I think there's a ton of other things you could do as well. Get more videos on Youtube, tweet more, whatever. Anything helps. This is exactly the type of thing that could get much bigger than it currently is.

You really need to push the legal part, when my friends hear betting money on anything online they immediately assume that it is illegal and shady

I agree on the legal part, people are just so worried after all of the poker stuff over the years.

As for social media, I think we are doing a pretty nice job but we will try to improve.

If you want to follow us on Twitter or FB, here are the links:

Taylor, I'm gonna copy/paste a post I just made. I agree this is the biggest part and thought it was just me. I've invited a bunch of friends that I thought for sure would be interested, but it's like pulling teeth to get one to even TRY it, and I know they'd like it if they tried it.

I've invited a bunch of friends to try and take advantage of the $10 refer a friend. No luck yet, and it's not because my friends are chepo's or anything. Honestly I think it's because they think there is something illegal or shady about it.

Have any suggestions of what I could tell them? I've told my roomate it's 100% legal and even told him about a freeroll, so he doesnt feel like he has to deposit. He loves fantasy football, but for whatever reason, still hasnt checked this out and again I think its because he thinks its shady. He knows I play poker and knows its in a grey area, so I guess he thinks its the same.

If you run another freeroll, let me know, as I think it's the best way to get people to try the site/to try fantasy wagering.

Kris --

Maybe send them a link to the Trip to the Strip Promo? Once people do get on the site they seem to love it. I imagine what we are dealing with right now is something like what people were dealing with in online poker in 2000. It was fun, but it just seemed bizarre. Eventually the tide turns when enough people "vouch" for it and then it becomes trustworthy or whatever.

Football ending is so big. I know I can continue on Basketball and Hockey but when it gets to baseball season I will be sitting out.

Re: Spreading the word about DraftDay

Love the site, I have been on it for a few weeks. I would look into finding a sponsor that can spread the word to people. I know Matthew Berry TMR (http://espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/matthewberry) tweets about (probably your biggest competition) draftstreet all the time. I think finding a person like that who has name recognition in the fantasy community and is willing to promote your site could really help boost traffic. Although I agree with football winding down I can imagine a dip in traffic is going to happen but now is the time to get everything lined up for a successful 2012 football season.

Re: Spreading the word about DraftDay

hook up with Rotoworld or something maybe. Obv FanDuel is tied to the 4for4football guys

If you can get Some type of partnership with Rotoworls, Chris Liss could probably start talking about draftday in his East Coast Offense article, which also runs oh Yahoo

If people go to Draftsreeet first, daily fantasy sports get hurt. That site is awful, and would easily drive people away from the whole idea

Re: Spreading the word about DraftDay

Speaking of competitors, just who are your biggest competitors, to the extent you feel comfortable discussing that here. DD looks great to me, but I want to go poke around the competitor sites so I can get a feel for what you're up against...I saw DraftStreet / FanDuel mentioned ITT...but who are the other big players? Always hard to tell by just looking at websites, since it's not always clear what sort of traffic they all have.
