Not much to think about, the people wearing shades at 2/5NL and under are generally awful. Also ldo the constant seat movers and table changers and clearly bad regs, people who do this mostly suck at poker. ive never had to table change once in 5 years of crushing 2/5 and 5/10.

this has been debated a bit, i think that never seat-selecting is a leak. If you crush without ever table changing, then you've passed up chances to Megacrush.

I agree that constant seat movers are lame and likely bad/scared.

to be fair theres almost always only one or two 5/10 games going so the option to table select literally does not exist, not that id take it anyway.

It depends on who is wearing the shades. I would agree that the majority of people who wear them aren't great. It depends on the reasoning behind it:

If they are wearing them just to try and hide their tells, they probably aren't the best players.

If they are wearing them so your opponents can't see you eying their stack size, watching them as you count out chips for a call, watching for any fold/call tell pf, ect. I don't see how they could be anything but +EV.

Same goes for seat changes. What is the reason behind the seat change? Is it for luck? Is it to get a better view of whatever is on TV?

Or is it to get tighter player on your left, target a certain player, get bigger stacks to your right, ect.

99.999% of the people who wear shades are very bad players (but they do think they're good).
02-25-2014 , 02:18 PM
So are you saying I should wear shades if I want people to assume I'm a very bad player?
02-25-2014 , 06:50 PM
Also if you want people to think you're an anti-social douche.

I wonder what percentage of bad players who wear shades do it in part because they want people to think they're bad players?

Honestly, you can fill in that blank with almost anything, including "have won money."

Why do people get so upset when the topic of sunglasses/headphones/seat change/hoodie/ballcap/strap on/ect is brought up?
02-26-2014 , 12:28 PM
I don't get it either. I personally don't wear sunglasses at the table, but I'm not bothered by people who do. I've played with good players who wear them and bad ones. I also don't see it as being anti-social either. Many people I've played with who are wearing shades have been among the friendliest players.

I do agree with the anti-headphone crowd, though, because that often does affect the game.
02-26-2014 , 12:59 PM
I can understand the headphone hate, sometimes, because it can actually hold up the action. Which in some of the faster paced tourneys is a big deal. If you have to constantly ask "Is it on me" or "Did he just call?" then you should not be wearing headphones. Or at least leave one ear uncovered if you have to watch re-runs of Designing Women or listen to Starland Vocal Band on your phone.

nah but it will make your douchefactor increase +9000

not saying every person with shades sucks/max level douchery but its a common trend. Its just like...shades indoors...why... you arnt playing negraneu at a 20000 nl cash game where people can actually make sense of any possible facial tells you are giving.

Well at least popped collars to "hide neck tells" isn't popular, if it is, we might see a guy like this at the table:

Not surprised that nobody listed one of the most 'telling' signs of a very good player. A good, consistent player is watching intently every hand (maybe not noticeably). How often do you watch what players NOT in a hand are doing? Most people only focus on the players remaining in the hand or they just mentally check out until the end of the current hand.

Take a few seconds to see who is quietly observing from the sidelines in between hands. Very few people will be...but there are very few winning players.

... And there are the players who are paying close attention to what is going on, but you don't notice it, because they are carrying on a conversation, or looking towards the basketball game on one of the big screens, or eating lunch, or something, but when you talk to them later it turns out they recall every detail of the hand. Ever play with mike l.?

At live games a good sign of a winning player is:

Folds pre flop decent amount out the time

Solid pre flop raises and 3b raise sizing

Makes good hero calls/hero folds on river

Doesnt talk about strategy
03-24-2014 , 02:11 PM
Players rarely cold calling a raise.........players using fold equity.....At my room 99 % are weak

I don't know about a winning player, but came across the coolest dressed player. At the THR, dude sits down wearing a red suit. I mean matching fire engine red jacket and pants. He's got giant sunglasses on with all kinds of bling on the stems. He's wearing one of those hair backpack things that people with dreds wear that hold their hair in a bag that is black and matches his shirt. To top it off, he's a dead ringer for John Torturro (more of a Jesus and less a Kinnitch). He was one of the nicest quietest guys at the table just doing his thing.
