Re: Treasure Island - Vegas
How about Bravo Live? Have you seen it? There's a place for promotions, tourneys, etc as well as for active tables and lists. I know you have not much input any more, but sites like that are becoming more popular, especially in a place like Vegas where you can check several rooms with a few clicks.
I played at TI during one if it's first few days open. all the chips had plastic shavings all over them, they were so new.
Good luck in MI.

Re: Treasure Island - Vegas
Thanks. Yes, I'm very familiar with BravoLive. I was trying to get it installed in the room at the same time we were trying to get wifi. The higher ups agreed to put in the wifi, but didn't want to spend the money on BravoLive simply because we aren't a room that spreads a variety of games. If we happen to get a mix game or a something out of the ordinary we have to use our social media outlets to let the public know about it.

Oh, I thought you were using Bravo already and Bravo Live was a simple step from there.

Re: Treasure Island - Vegas
I live in Vegas so I'd be interested in helping to get 3/6 limit going if the promotion is still going. This looks like a much better deal than playing 4/8 or lower at any of the other casinos on the Strip.
Limit hold'em runs regularly at some of the other casinos nearby, so I'm disappointed that limit hold'em hasn't been more successful at this casino.

I don't know if I'm disappointed since I don't play limit, but this has always perplexed me as well. Say what you will about TI, the good and the bad, but they have had multiple promotions over the years where they seem to throw everything but the kitchen sink at players to try to get them to play. But whatever they have done seems to have no impact with low limit players. You would think with these promos, especially this latest one, that the roving band of nits about town that go around playing promotions like aces cracked would come and collude their way to free money. But as far as I know they hardly ever have limit games going.
On a different note, I wonder if the new room manager will have a presence on here like MSUspartan4?

Re: Treasure Island - Vegas
It's probably because their LHE game was 2/4, which I don't think qualifies for the promotion. So nobody comes in to play it. There are probably plenty of people that would play 2/4, but when they walk by there's no game and no list. Hiring props is OUT OF THE QUESTION. Who cares if the California cardrooms do it and have waiting lists 3 hours or more. This is Vegas, dammit, and we don't hire poker props.
By contrast, last week when I was there, the Orleans had 3 full tables of 2/4 with a list 10 deep. It was an hour wait to get a seat. The difference? They were grinding a bad beat jackpot. And the rake is $3 max. Which has more appeal - grind all week for $600 or the possibility of a life-changing couple hundred grand?
TI - being successful is easy game. Look at what successful rooms do, and do the same thing.

For the last 3 months of 2011 we had a $2 max rake on all limit games. $2 an hour comps, and it still didn't work. Just got word that an aces cracked promo is starting. They are running it from 11am to 6pm. $50 plus a wheel spin. Aces cracked of the same color and you start with a 2x multiplier. The pay to play promo is still running, so if this doesn't get limit players, I don't know what will.

There are always improvements that can be made in one's promotions, but I think TI's situation is a bit more complex then simply copying another room's promotions. For one, the Orleans doesn't have the Mirage right next door and the Venetian across the street to contend with. They are a local's casino detached from the strip and they are always going to get a good percentage of that clientele.
Along these lines I've always felt that the poker room at TI stood in stark contrast to the rest of the property. The poker room has always catered to local players, especially in contrast to other strip properties. But the hotel is not built in such a way and is not accommodating of such players. Local poker players do not go to casinos only to play poker; they eat, bowl, watch movies and hang out with friends/family who have nothing to do with the poker.
Unlike the Orleans, or any other local's casino for that matter, TI does not have a wide and cheap food court mere feet from the poker room, a movie theater upstairs nor do they have promotions that are run by the casino at large for locals. The cheapest meal you can have is at the pizzeria next door and I still wouldn't call them cheap.
Under such settings it would be difficult for any room to hang on to a local client base, but I give the room credit for preserving a loyal base of players. But that having been said, such a foundation can last for so long and cannot last without the infusion of tourist players. And in this sense the property has completely failed in its endeavors. While the parking is convenient for locals, the area where the poker room is situated is completely out of sight for those staying at the hotel. There are hardly any signs anywhere around the casino directing players to the room, they never make PA announcements regarding the room and from what friends have told me there is not in room advertising either.
I wish the new room manager luck as he's got a tough road ahead of him.

Re: Treasure Island - Vegas
The pay-to-pay promo was pretty prominent on the big sign going down the escalator. I was in the casino for 5 minutes after eating at Samba next door and walking back to the Wynn last night and even in that short period of time I couldn't miss it.
If I lived here, I might live THERE 60 hours a week.

This is all extremely accurate. It was a major challenge at TI to establish a local player base, and getting tourists into the room was, unfortunately, out of my hands. I hope good things are ahead for the room as I have lifelong friends that work there. I will continue to do my part to help as much as possible, even if it's from across the country.
