Re: Tightest Nit At Table Said I haven't Played a Hand all Day Out Loud

When someone calls me a nit, I just ask myself "What would Jack Kerouac do?" And then I go do that and post it.

OP seems genuine.

Live poker is not a place where 'politeness' rules. It's a war for chips. The old dude made the statement because he wasn't happy with your style of play - i.e. he wanted you to play spewey so he can play tight and snap you off. Well fk him. You play the way you want to play. If you think he said something out of line, tell him so.

If other players are unhappy or uncomfortable with your style of play it's often a good sign you're doing something right.

1) You posted 12 paragraphs without asking a question. What is the point of this thread other than to tell us over and over again that you were card dead but determined to fight through it by opening up your preflop raising requirements?

2) What age are you and what are you doing in life that this random guy's one sentence, extremely mild, non-offensive, irrelevant comment sends you off the deep end? This bothered you that much? It's actually a pretty common occurence at the table. No one is going to remember or care what he said and it's not going to affect much at all when it comes to how people play their hands.

I was not uncomfortable at all. I'm not a teenager like you.
Of all the stuff you said, this stood out. You clearly were uncomfortable; it's the point of your entire post. And, I'd wager my next ten years worth of monthly bills that you are not far from being a teenager, your writing style makes it pretty clear.

2Outs, did you read this thread?

Actually, I'm not sure that the comment really did drive him over the edge. He might easily make a post like this after a waitress asks him to choose a salad dressing.

It is common occurence for players to talk how someone is tight at the table. However... it is not common for the biggest nit at the table to actuallly make this comment. Where do you see play where the biggest nit at the table actually calls someone out for playing tight when they are even tighter?

The guy who posted that is obviously a teenager. They just troll the threads and nothing more.

You are also the person that says no one makes a living playing 2/5NL when the majority of ppl who do play live no limit for a living do play some 2/5NL when there is no 5/10nl running or if the 5/10nl game is bad.

Most live no limit players who play for a living probably plays 2/5nl or 5/10nl. Then of course you got those guys who play 10/20nl at bellagio and commerce but the pool of those players are small.

And i would say there are more live pros at 2/5 then 5/10 because there just isn't that many 5/10 that runs. Then again... you are the one that thinks its naive for anyone to be a live pro at 2/5.

My opinion is that you exhibited a massive overreaction.
If the guy who said you were playing tight was actually playing tighter than you, OK, but so what?
Possibly he was trying to get under your skin. Looks like he succeeded beyond his wildest dreams...

You understand that deflection is part of the game, correct?

Yes, the nit called you out for also being a nit. This is not a tragedy. This is not a mystery. This is just something that happened. I've seen it happen before, I'll see it happen again. That's poker.

I think if you stop focusing on the other person and start focusing on yourself, you might find peace with this situation.

Re: Tightest Nit At Table Said I haven't Played a Hand all Day Out Loud

1) I don't take detailed statistics on the VPIPs of those who comment at the table that others are playing tight. It apparently doesn't send me off the deep end as much as it does you. However, I've heard all sorts of players make comments about the tightness or looseness of someone else's play. It's pretty common, and almost always done without malice. People like to kid around, needle others, make conversation in weird ways, etc. It's not a big deal. No one normal gets offended by this stuff to the point you are getting offended by it.

2) In any event, who cares? Why does it matter WHO made the comment? It's the same set of words and will have the same effect on the other players if they're listening (likely none).

Also, bizarrely, you again are bringing up random generalizations from convos months ago that have zero to do with this thread. What do comments on people on this site playing for a living from last year have to do with you becoming ridiculously offended by someone's commentary on tight play?

That's true. I'm not taking into account how mundane it is from Mr. X, weekend casual 48 VPIP'er, while being extremely offensive from a guy even tighter than OP.

Re: Tightest Nit At Table Said I haven't Played a Hand all Day Out Loud

theres a lot of info in this thread. Im sure what im about to say has been said numerous times already

OP: The guy was trying to get you to tilt and stack off by calling raises with hands that are mostly unplayable. He sees your big stack topped off, he wants it. You gave him some info just by telling him whatever you said.

Your not there to impress anyone with your crazy plays and bluffs.

Ive been in your situation a hundred times, your card dead, people say something, you try to play a hand and you get raised out of pot etc........... I find it best to just walk away from the table and take a break. OR when you do hit a big hand, limp it in and trap someone, since you know what they might do. only bad thing is the other guy might limp too and thats not what you want, its funny how it works, you limp 4 times over an hour, and get raised out of the pot, you limp again to trap with a monster this time and theres no action. Just walk away and relax for a while

So why are you here, typing up walls of text in a huff about some guy you don't know saying something you don't agree with?

Why don't you just answer him and leave it at that? I don't see why we have to hear about it. This happens like every day in every card room ever.

Seriously? Get the **** over it already. If you're going off the rails, writing up a bitchfest because of a simple comment like that, and still fuming over it 2 damn weeks later, you ought to keep away from live poker. You're not playing against your mom, you're playing against random people who could say anything at any moment. Some stupid little comment about you being tight, WHOEVER IT'S FROM, shouldn't take you more than a second to dismiss.
