Look for private games on Meetup. I found the Charlotte ones that way.

Nothing within 300 miles. After Cherokee I think the next closet card room would be Charleston, WV, or Dover Downs in Delaware.

You best bet is definitely going to be an underground game of some sort. There are a few pretty decent ones in Charlotte, and I'm sure Raleigh is no different.

Cherokee is the closest. Its not bad. There are also games in Jacksonville, FL. I have not played there in a while, but heard the games are easy. There are some charity games in Charlotte which run weekends or most week days.

Re: Poker near Raleigh nc

I have been to a a couple in the Burlington, NC area, and some of those players play some high stakes games in the Durham area (2-3 NL and 5-5 O/8 are the highest I have heard at least routinely). I would not be best person to give details, but just alerting you that they are there.

I have heard about some games in Raleigh, but just from the internet site

http://www.homepokergames.com/northcarolina.php

I am not sure how reliable it is.

One of the Durham games was robbed last month for several thousand dollars. Guy busted in with a 9mm, and took the kitty. Did not rob the players per se. Be careful and ask questions about security.

They do not have live dealers yet. From what I hear the Poker Tec tables will be there till at least the end of the year. I go up about every other month for a weekend and see 7 or 8 1/2 nl tables running. I have not been to the new room but heard its gotten a little busier. Next trip is in three weeks.

The electronic tables aren't that bad. The game moves much quicker, there are never any disputes, and there's no dealer to tip. Plenty of fishy play. The rake is 10% capped at $5 (I think).

Re: Poker near Raleigh nc

cherokees $1/2 nl is free money. electronic tables you get ~45 hands an hour, some stats (showdowns won/lost, average pot size, hands per hour and a bit more) and i feel like the electronic tables draw fishy people because of the accessible nature of it - everyone has used a computer before.

i know plenty of games in and around raleigh ranging from $1/2 & 1/3 to a $5/10 and an occasional $20/5/10. pm me if you want more info about the home games.

Re: Poker near Raleigh nc

I live in Raleigh as well. Charlestown is only about 20-25 min further than Harrah's Cherokee, and obviously gets much more action. Honestly I wouldn't even bother with Cherokee until they get live dealers, it really isn't worth the trip imo.

Probably easiest way to find close casinos is to use the Bravo Poker Live app. The distances it gives you from your location aren't driving distances, but it's still pretty accurate.

On a side note, just got back from my first ever trip to the Borgata (and AC). I have to say, that poker room is second to none. I logged in this morning to the My Borgata Rewards site and I plenty of comped room dates to choose from, so I'll definitely be going back within the next 2-3 months.
