It means that the message got through.

The original goal (prior to the creation of M&B) was simply B&M as usual with slightly relaxed rules, right? Are the B&M changes enough so that people here would voluntarily give up M&B and return to B&M?

Certainly moving posts with "+1" and "LOL" to the status of parking tickets is a move in the right direction. Exchanging a "warning" to a two day temp-ban, not so much.

Continued public moderation comments:

Several posts were removed for a repetitive theme of attacks on Rapini.

If you want to debate the moderation in B&M, go there.
If you want to debate the moderation here, post here.
If you want to complain about the forum structure, PM Mat.

...but don't litter the forum here with attacks on Rapini.

why am i limited to a thread of only poker puns for board names? the thread wasn't about pranking anyone into saying something juvenile, it was to bring some fun into an aspect of the b&m poker room where we're granted a huge amount of freedom to be creative if we want to.

"bueller", an excellent idea from the thread. isn't a poker pun but it'd be funny to hear called over a loudspeaker. limiting a thread like that to only poker-related nicknames would make for a largely uninteresting, strained and short list. and 'emperor' is killer with the right body walking over into the seat. mr 3000 is a name i wouldnt have thought of if i hadn't started that thread and i'm definitely using that one. i'd like to see where the thread evolves from here.

playing around on the waitlist boards is a thing we can try to have fun with in this new b&m forum with ONE thread. at least give it more of a chance than a few hours in a low-traffic forum.. what's it hurting?

if you wanna delete the non-clever rude suggestions, that'd be just fine.

I was going to go piece by piece, but I'll just answer the post as a whole.

While I too would be amused by hearing Dr. Zaius called over the loudspeaker, the fact that it could happen in a poker room doesn't make "funny names you can get said over the loudspeaker" a poker room topic, and we're still a discussion (sub)forum for things in B&M cardrooms. [If it WAS poker-related amusing, or poker-room specific things, and I thought it could stay even close to on topic, I'd have left it.]

Lets at least go to the airport and type the names into the automated system that gets read by the synthesized voice (at least here at Sky Harbor). [I assume a human approves them, but a computer says them...]

I'm sure the thread can live on -- just not here. I'm essentially faced with the choice to babysit the thread filled with responses of Dick Aitkin, Master Bates, Hugh Jass, et all. -- try to caution people to stay classy -- or just lock it up.

The argument goes back to, of course, "What could it hurt to leave it be?" and the answer is that there's other poker-related (sub)forums here better suited for threads like that. Start it there.

That's my opinion. I could be wrong; but they gave me the tin star.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

dr zaius WAS a good one.

and my only response is a line I've given versions of many times: I really think we'd all benefit if you just lowered your standards for a while. just to try it out and see how you like it.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

I was surprised it was closed, but the explanation is spot-on. This is a poker-related forum, and folks have a reasonable expectation to read poker-related posts. "Master Bates" and the like do not qualify.

After reading Pali's explanation, his justification to leave the thread run longer ("give it a chance") makes sense. I didn't realize what he meant by that comment at the time, however. Some of the text from the above post may have made sense to include in the let's-not-close-this-topic warning post, IMO.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

If someone wants to try again, they're welcome to, but my guess is that it'll run out of steam after we exhaust "setup," and "no rake." The dictionary thread ran out of steam, but produced some amusing stuff and we stayed on topic there, so there's a chance.

Post it in the LC thread, and I'll gladly fish the useful ones back out.

Setup, 1-2NL!

No Rake, Table 14!

How appropriate that the thread by Mr. Locksmith got Locked so quickly.

those are two really good ones, i'll have to write them down on the piece of paper in my house.

that said, it'd be nice if you let up on the reins of this forum a bit; encourage people to try new stuff. the waitlist names thread was pretty heavily related to brick and mortar poker¹, it's something everybody playing b&m has experience with all the time, and i wanted to try something new and fun with the 'more open' b&m forum.

i dont wanna come off sore or anything, but you're kind rubbing it in my face how easy it is for people in this forum to come up with 2 really good waitlist names that i hadn't. and it's that kind of collaborative vibe that i thought could make for a great thread if a few people got into it, but they never got the chance. gobbo saw exactly what i was going for, and he ****in loves locking threads. just cause some people are unimaginative and can only think to sound out dirty words in name form, that's no reason to put the kibosh on a concept that some "better" posters can do new and interesting things with.

¹
[i call the b&m room and give them the name.
i get there and check in with the name
i hear the name called on the loudspeaker for my first and all subsequent seats, which everyone in the room hears and i have to acknowledge.

all these steps involve me getting funny looks and maybe even a smile from poker players, poker room employees, the live poker community directly.

the whole concept is built around having fun with the b&m poker community. its only shot at greatness was in a forum filled with people intimately familiar with said community.]

Hey, wait... ...that's sarcasm.

Honestly, I think the thread is doomed to devolve at warp speed. The dick joke signal to noise ratio would be off the chart.

...but like I said. Make posts in the LC thread, and if it gets any positive traction, I'll double your offer! I'll merge the posts back into that thread and open it back up. [...until I'm forced to close it again.]
