Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
I think the moderators here should have a stated and consistent policy about people advocating breaking the law in general. The situation was first brought up in the "prop player / kush job" thread, but there's a broader scope here with things like structuring or otherwise evading CTRs as well as underage playing / fake IDs and drugs (e.g., marijuana) that frequently come up in B&M.
I realize I may be in the minority, but as an example, I approve of LVL's "don't ask about illegal drugs" policy, for instance. People occasionally come up with code words (e.g., "bananas") and when discovered, the posts are deleted. Yes, marijuana isn't that bad and everyone has tried it and it's available anywhere and maybe it shouldn't be an illegal drug at all, but still, while it is illegal, it's just something that shouldn't be discussed in a public forum where posts are archived and searchable.
My two cents.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
To some extent, this is covered in the rules/guidelines post copied/stolen/modified from the B&M FAQ:
- Unlawful activities: Posts about breaking the law are not permitted. Posts regarding underage gambling or "cheating" in poker will not be permitted.
- Discussion of less-traditional card rooms are to be discussed in theory only, and in the Raked Club Game Poker thread.
...but yes, there won't be any discussion here about how to mail bananas without having them seized by customs or how much you pay per ounce for saffron in your neighborhood.
I will give some latitude, of course. I'll assume that anyone who wants to discuss playing live while stoned lives in a state with medical marijuana, is a card holding patient, and has someone chauffeur them to the casino.
I am guilty of this, from time to time, myself. So I'll give a little slack for people who want to make passing comments. [I ship myself Caribbean-grown cigars from Swiss distributors. They don't have any laws against shipping them...]

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
I think the restrictions on discussing illegal activities, drugs, and cheating should be clarified. I assume that you really just don't want there to be discussions of the best way to cheat or to do something illegal, correct? If I was cheated at a poker room, could I not mention it here? If someone threatened/harrassed/assaulted me at a poker table (illegal activities), could I not mention it here? If I saw a drug deal happen in a certain poker room restroom which caused me to question the security of the room, could I not mention it here?

Of course you can post: "I was robbed."
You can't post: "Best places to rob people."
If you need more direct examples or guidance about a thread or topic you'd like to discuss, just let me know.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
Pali has it dead on, and this is more of a site wide rule than a forum specific one. Discussion about ways to engage in illegal activities or suggestions of how to engage in illegal activities is against the rules. (This also includes some things people would not think of as illegal in all places, such as torrents, and how to get around U.S. poker ban enforcement through technology.)

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
Can I have permission to create a "Pay your damn taxes" megathread to contain such discussion?

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
It won't be a productive thread. It will just be 100 posts exactly like the one's in the other thread with people saying "pay your taxes" and the other people saying "Mind your own business."
That doesn't mean its really against the rules however. I'm going to let Palimax say, since this is mostly his experiment and I'm just lame enforcer guy.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread
Seems to me it'd only make sense to make one if there are enough threads of people asking how to avoid IRS filings, in order to make a containment thread worthwhile.
Every thread seems to be at risk of becoming a tipping thread. Tipping containment makes sense. But are tax discussions *that* common?

Well, note that we should be removing posts about how to avoid IRS filings in general due to the whole "no illegal activity" part of the rules.

...most of what's in the last few posts is why it isn't of much use here.

[This post and the 5 or so below is were moved here to demonstrate what, despite the lax attitude, doesn't need to clutter up threads. -Max]
Once I was playing in a $5/10 nlh game at a casino. A Guy raised from the botton, the bb 3 bet and the original raiser 4 bet all in for like $600 and was called. They flipped over JJ and AA. The board ran out 789210 to give the Guy with JJ the straight. The whole table went nuts as did the entire poker room. There were about 50 people gathered around the table watching after the all in bet. Players began running around screaming and kicking things. A few guys actually jumped out of windows. One Guy just began punching random people in the face. Another guy threw his chair across the room. One Guy sprinted to the bar, jumped over the counter and chugged a bottle of vodka. Another Guy began ripping his own hair out and eating it. It was just complete chaos after witnessing this wild hand.
