Moderation Discussion Thread

Palimax must go. Someone is handed their own forum and they can't even bother to make an appearance? Wednesday poker night or not, totally unacceptable.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

As it stands, I currently lack the power to get all moderator-like up in he'ah, but I'm sure they'll figure things out eventually.

From the ATF thread:
As I understand it, the forum is supposed to be an alternate-universe version of B&M, existing in parallel space, covering similar ground, only with a Spock's Goatee twist.

Provided that's the case, I'll parrot existing forum FAQ/guidelines and make changes where suitable.

This might all be just a cruel tease by some stone-cold, merciless pranksters.

That is not logical. Dude. The actualization of this sub forum cannot be taunted or forced. I think if we all come here quietly and meditate, but not post, everything will turn out fine.

BRING BACK RAPINI!
(just kidding)

srs question- are we gonna be able to copy the poker venue threads over to here and be able to have more laid back/possibly lower content discussion? would we be able to discuss names in M&B?

Yes and I'm guessing no. Feel free to reveal your own name, but it's every man for himself.

I would say this was true for me, but I read the history and women's forum when it first began, therefore I have done it three times

What limited powers I'll have are starting to appear. I can now perform moderation in this forum. As such, I'll start drafting the rules - parroted from the existing B&M forum - as while it's not 100% clear, the goal seems to be to create an alternate universe where most of the laws of physics still apply. Hopefully when this experiment is over we've learned something. As a man of science, I'll try not to express impose my desired outcome on the experiment and just see what happens.

He's still there, and likely will be for some time.

While it seems I can now manipulate threads here, I can not manipulate threads "over there." [Which is probably for the better.] So while Rapini or another "real" moderator could likely copy threads here at your request, I can not process that request.

As to names, I assume that we have to defer to 2+2 guidelines. I, personally, have no issue with mentioning badge-wearing customer-facing personnel by name, but would urge posters to use discretion in calling people out. I think the answer is likely case-by-case, or something as wishy-washy as only using names in a positive manner.
  • I had a problem with [Dealer Name Removed] at Casino Grande
  • Please talk to Jack, the Floor Person. If you have trouble finding him, ask Fred, the Brush.
I certainly have no issue with doppelganger threads being created here. ...but I can't do it - see above.

--

So, for those of you who like to look under the covers, here's the current B&M FAQ, and where I need to make edits for the M&B FAQ. Your feedback is welcome -- but like my counterpart in the other universe, this isn't a strict democracy.

It's not so much the language in the FAQ that's important, but the application of the law. For example: I intend to allow regional-type threads to meander a bit among the regulars, provided they remain hospitable for those stopping and asking for directions.

Yes, that means you people at Foo-Casino could talk about your favorite cigar, as long as you're prepared to provide details about the noon mega-super-stack tournament.

Welcome to the Mortar and Brick Forum (“M&B”) at 2+2. We take a liberal view on acceptable topics in M&B as long as the topic is related to brick and mortar card rooms and the discussion remains socially acceptable. Generally, the standard we use re social acceptance is the same as a well-managed poker room: you cannot post something that wouldn't be tolerated at a poker table in a card room.

Additionally, the following specific guidelines apply:

(1) No-content posting. No-content posting is not permitted. Please make sure that your posts contribute positively. [I am not a fan of +1 as a post-count-increasing mechanism, but I take no issue with concise replies or agreement in opinion threads. +1 won by a fair margin in the B&M polls, so while I don't think I'll be moderating them into oblivion, I'd like to include language that sums this up without being so verbose.] Please keep +1 and other "Me too!" type posting to a minimum. Short, concise posts are permitted as long as they advance the discussion or close out thoughts.

(2) Profanity filter. 2+2 has a profanity filter built into its software. Please do not self-censor or otherwise attempt to dodge that filter; simply type expletives as you would normally and let the filter do its work.

(3) Unlawful activities. Posts about breaking the law are not permitted. (E.g., underage gambling, underground card rooms, etc.) [The Home Poker sub-forum now has a catch-all discussion thread for "underground" card-rooms. I'd like to get eneely and Schmendr1ck's take on allowing in-a-vacuum discussion regarding those locale.]

(4) Trolling. Trolling is not permitted. Do not tease, taunt, or otherwise purposefully annoy other posters. For a definition of trolling, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll. [The Wikipedia definition is too broad, and is used in B&M as a catch-all for, "I didn't like that."]

(5) New threads. Before making a new thread, use the search function. It is preferable to bump an old on-topic thread than start a new thread if your subject is not original. Also, before making a new thread, be certain that there is no forum that is more appropriate for your subject. If you need guidance on this issue, please send a private message to a moderator. Finally, please make the title of your thread substantive and descriptive.

(6) Card room employees. Card room employees must become authorized representatives before posting information on their place of employment. Please contact Two Plus Two Advertising for more information.

(7) Privacy of non-famous players and card room employees. Respect other players' and card room employees' privacy; do not use their names on the forum unless they have given permission to do so either explicitly on the forums or implicitly by becoming an authorized representative. [See comments above. But I'll likely defer to 2+2's rules. What is currently the least restrictive policy on a forum? That's likely the minimum.]

(8) Containment. Discussion of the following topics are limited to the linked containment threads: [Threads will be different, of course.]

Tipping
Human-dealt tables v. e-tables
Chicago-area "charity" poker rooms

The previous B&M Forum FAQ, which remains an excellent resource for guidelines on posting, tips on how to use the search function, and frequently asked questions, can be found here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/27...topics-201389/. [Needs parroted over.]

If you have any questions about the above guidelines or wish to discuss moderation action, please either: (a) in the case of a specific incident, send a private message to the moderator taking the action; or (b) in the case of a general suggestion/discussion, send a private message to any moderator -or- post in the Moderation Discussion Thread, which can be found here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/20...hread-1124430/[Link Edited]

Will there be something posting in B&M pointing to M&B as an option? Not many people read ATF...

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

Can we advertise this forum in B&M to let people know if they would like to be able to post without the concerns of ridiculous modding that they can repost here or x posting here?

Edit
Without worrying about saying it for fear of infractions

Out of my scope. Above my pay grade.

While this is the moderation discussion forum, lets try to focus on moderation here. There's a thread in the other universe for moderation discussion over there.

Re: Moderation Discussion Thread

I am excited as hell about this.

Hopefully everyone migrates over here and people that were boycotting b & m (me) for various reasons will join and it will be an even bigger forum.
