I just answered a PM about a fairly common question.
Tips on becoming a casino dealer
(I'm obviously generous with the "tips"

)
My 1st suggestion is that you get some practice dealing somewhere 1st. Do they have any casinos close to you? If not, you might have to pay for dealing school. You need to get the hang of pitching cards, dealing from a shoe, cutting chips and paying blackjacks (1.5 to 1 in most places, 6 to 5 in others). It's not hard to learn, but it does take some practice.
You can probably find some instructional type vids on YouTube (or one of those do-it-yourself websites).
And yeah, starting off at a lower paying casino is standard. And yeah, they don't make as much in tips (so yearly, $20k-ish is about right).
But once you get experience under your belt, getting a pay raise just means finding an opening in a better casino. That can obviously take time (and lots of persistence). They don't just "hire anyone".
So.. what are they looking for??
Upbeat personality #1
Experience
Friendliness
"Team players"
GREAT customer service
^ these things will get you further than anything else
What will help you keep your job??
Be on time
LEARN OTHER GAMES*
Don't get into it with your customers (EVER!)
Let your bosses be right (even when they're not)
*Which games are the most important??
Blackjack - like knowing Hold'em.. VERY STANDARD
Craps - THE game (a craps dealer can be taught any other game in minutes.. a regular dealer would need MONTHS to learn to deal craps)
Baccarat (Full, Midi and Mini-baccarat) - this could be a job saver (it's the biggest "action" in most casinos, so not every dealer can handle the pressure)
***
Roulette - next to craps, this game has the hardest math. Can't say it's a job saver, but it's a great game to know.. because..
After PaiGow poker, everything else can be taught in 5 minutes!
EVERY OTHER GAME A HUNGRY CHIMP COULD DEAL IF YOU GAVE HIM A BANANA
The casinos are looking for young, super friendly dealers that deal all of the games. The closer you are to that profile, the better your chances of landing that $60k+ /yr. dealing job.
If you have any other questions, or I missed something, PM me or hit me up in this thread.

*** I forgot PaiGow Tiles. Hard game to learn (the tiles and names for each tile are in Chinese). It's not a very popular game, but if you can learn it, it looks great on your game resume).
