Done it several times in an SUV. Thought I was too tired to drive home and didn't want to check in at a hotel at 5AM and have to check out at 10AM for minimum $60 where I play. First time, I did it, I was super cold and was a big mistake. Since, I have only done it when it was warm. I actually slept very well and have felt great playing afterwards. I have never been disturbed and never felt unsafe. I picked prime locations though.

Pro tip: If it's a cold night, then make sure you play til the sun comes up so you don't freeze your ass off.

if you have to do that you really need to reevaluate what you're doing, you shoudlnt' go play if you can't get home or get a room, you're hurting your body and you're never gonna be at peak playing ability after that type of rest

Yes. Sometimes.
But!!!!!!!
When you sleep really well in the back of an SUV and actually get good sleep and did so because is was wsop circuit and rooms are sold out. You can still be on your A game..
Just saying.

I do it all the time and I am comfortable doing it. I never felt unsecure sleeping in a casino indoor parking garage either. Just gotta pick a good location. Also, it's important to have changes of clothes, especially underwear and socks. I also find it extremely important to know your limits and to know when you are well rested and when you are tired and cannot play your A game. In this case it could be very detrimental to sleep in a vehicle and then play another session. Two nights is my absolute limit.

have slept in or on cars/pick ups twice but never for poker. 1977 Beech Bend Raceway Bowling Green Ky. Slept on hood of Dodge Dart in pits-mosquitos were horrid and it was hot as heck, 1987 lost in the dark on YAKIMA FIRING CENTER in Jan. no snow but only 6 degrees ,3 big guys in cab of 1983 chevy p/u (m1003 CUCV) 6.2 GM DIESEL RUNNING ALL NIGHT,have gotten better sleep in JAIL!

For one night like you are doing it is probably worth it. Just do the right thing and take a toothbrush. If you are playing Friday night, then sleeping in car and playing all day Saturday with the sole goal to maximize the $$$ you come home with, then it is likely the right thing to do. Pretty brutal, but you will end up with more money when you get home (probably).

I've slept in my car but it was never because of trying to increase profits or anything like that. It is pretty much gauranteed that within 5 miles of any casino is some motel 6 that is like $20 a night so the savings is minimal. I've slept in my car when I've had an hour plus drive on a california highway and I felt I needed a nap before I could safely drive.

I think you could find something cheap for $30 or so. It has to be worth that much to be better rested, and to have showered. Maybe if you had to pay $150 or so it is worth it to sleep in the car.

Just came across advertisement for a book, vanabode by Jason odom. Sounds like he traveled very cheaply living out of a van and playing poker. I read the reviews but not the book.
Just wondering if anyone on here has read? Ad says you can live on 20 bucks per day.

If not married I think might be at car Lot and on road tomorrow.

I fit quite well in the back of my '96 Bronco. I have a self inflating bed pad that is really quite comfortable. I also have a nice down sleeping bag. One thing that is nice to have, especially if it is rainy or ****ty out, is some kind of a urinal. You really don't want to crawl out of a nice warm sleeping bag and go out in the rain in your socks and shorts

I was planning a trip from Seattle through National Parks , Glacier, Yellowstone, Teton , 5 in Utah , the Grand Canyon ending up in Vegas for Event 20, but I have contracted a CMV virus associated with Kidney Transplant . I was planning on mostly sleeping in the Bronco, but was going to bring my nice cot and tent as well.

I did it a couple of times driving back from Shreveport to Dallas, I never could sleep well in cars. Just be careful shady characters in rest stops.

Every grinder has slept in their car at least once if the casino was far away from home. Car is for naps. Get a room to sleep and it's easier to 'regroup' mentally, sleep, get your bang on with a chick, get over a bad beat, and overall save money in the long run by being well rested.

And you have the opportunity to brush your teeth, and shower.

Don't be smelling like doo doo at my tables please!

Tell 'em, baby!

Keep your "socks and drawers" game TIGHT!

Anybody with a vehicle should keep some toiletries with them ANYWAY, along with those jumper cables, that wool blanket, and that energy bar.

Slept in my car one night in Montreal after my buddy and I got locked out of my friends dorm room after coming home from a late night poker session.

I only live about 45 minutes away from my casino and I just can't bring myself to pay even $50 bucks for just a couple of hours. When making that 45 min drive if I find myself falling asleep I just take a quick cat nap. Because that is cheaper than my car insurance deductible.

Never for poker, but back when I was in the Air Force my buddy and I would take road trips and sleep in the car all the time. Money was reserved for gas, beer and food, in that order.

It's crazy to think that we used to complain about being broke so much back then. We didn't realize how free it really was to have no responsibility (except for showing up for duty on Monday, of course). Those were some of the best times of my life. ...damn, you know you're getting old when you say things like that.

I've slept in cars many times, but it's always after drinking too much to drive from a party or being on the road in the band van, and I can't really sleep for more than 4 hours in either situation.

Can't imagine getting a solid, comfortable 7-8 hours in most vehicles. Sure, if you have a decked-out SUV, van, hatchback, or enclosed-bed truck with pillows, blankets, tinted windows and a/c, but (being 6'3" 195) forget about it in a coupe or sedan.

I make an out-of-state poker trip or two per year for 4 or 5 days at a time and haven't really even considered sleeping in my car, even though I play $1/2 on a short roll. Personally, it's -ev for me to not be well-rested and showered before I'm essentially going to work. I'm sure I could sleep in the front seat for one night if I really had to and it wouldn't be a problem, but no longer than that.
10-05-2013 , 02:11 AM
I did many many times.

Nothing to say except I would like to avoid being so broke that I would have to do that again.. You never really get a good night's sleep.

I've only slept in my car for a short nap in the middle of a trip. Always got a hotel if I'm staying multiple days. It's definitely worth the ~$40 or so for the more comfortable bed, shower, breakfast, etc.

My wife is a slot degen, so we have a comped room whenever we want, plus meals. You need to give action to get action.

This is true, but are you baller enough to win more on average than your wife loses to get those free rooms plus meals? Hint: I hope you play 2/5 NL minimum for that.

If I was like 21 I would consider sleeping in car for a night or two but geez a decent hotel room is just ++ev.

Slept 2 nights in a row in my car during the circuit in Chicago ...Stanking it up haha!

I've never slept in my car as an alternative to paying for a hotel, but I have slept in my car as an alternative to crashing my car while driving home dead tired from the casino.
