How Many Of You Have Slept in Your Cars? How Many Of You Have Slept in Your Cars?

Reminds me of the weekend beach trips we'd take when we were 16 & 17. Hotels wouldn't let us stay so we've slept in cars. Remember using McDonald's bathrooms to brush teeth & wash up. Also remember the looks we'd get from random people catching us in the act.

I do it all the time, not just for poker.

$80-$120 bucks is usually way more then I'm willing to pay for a bed when I'm adventuring on my own. When you don't have to pay for that hotel room traveling becomes a whole lot cheaper.

and depending where you are, a whole lot more dangerous.

I have taken a nap in my car after playing a really long session and not wanting to take a chance on falling asleep on the way home..its about an hour and forty minute drive home from Foxwoods. I do know of many players who do sleep in their car when playing on a regular basis...they use the bathrooms to shave and brush their teeth, change their shirt and their good to go...

yes in rainmaker garage at Foxwoods once. People next to me where doing the same.

Definitely. You do have to be smart about where you pull off.

Last time I did this I pulled under a parking lot light post in an area that was packed with cars. When I woke up there wasn't a car in site. A little creepy like I was in the twilight zone.

Yes lots of times, sorry, but what's the big deal? I don't want or plan to live in a car, but once in a while , back seat naps or overnites are OK. Doesn't hurt to have your equalizer in the car with you too, it can discourage most creepers at first sight!

I've not done it. Around Foxwoods I could find a hotel that was no more than my 1-2 hourly. I've always figured getting a full night's sleep and showering was worth that considering I'd play 20 hours for one night's stay.

That said, I don't have a van where sleeping completely horizontal was an option. The main underground parking at the bottom level should be relatively comfortable and quiet.

I sleep in my car with a sleeping bag in the parking garage at the Horseshoe in Hammond, IN quite often.

I've pulled off at a closed gas station, parked & slept along side of the building before. I've even slept in the parking lot of a hotel(the only one in sight) that was charging over $100/night.

I've never had an issue with safety or anyone F**king around with me. Maybe I've been lucky?

Over $100 a night?!? Insanity.

Yeah yeah yeah....I know it's not a ton of money, but when you're starting out building a roll and grinding 1/2, half-a-buy-in is big expense.

Especially when you have Red Roof Inns and Motel 8's at around 40/night. But like I said above, there wasn't any other options around...so i saved a little cash and crashed in the car.

I've done it, but not poker related. I remember being in the Army and in Germany, and we drove to a big festival in Berlin.

We were all broke soldiers, and we got to Berlin after driving all night around 7am. Didn't wanna shell out for a hotel and the festival didn't start until that afternoon.
Used our Army issue sleeping bags. Two in the back of the truck, and two of us (me included) on the parking lot concrete floor next to a dumpster. Slept like a champ.

ahh, the good ol' days.

Also not poker related but I spent 5 weeks sleeping in a car while backpacking in Canada. Just parked outside a hostel and used their facilities for everything except sleeping. Did it to save money and even in minus 20 celcius it was all good after purchasing a high quality sleeping bag.

Sleeping in the front seat fixed some posture problems as well.

Well I decided to move closer to the casinos. It just made no sense to keep sleeping in my car weekend after weekend. I never had any problems and nobody ever messed with me but it was not something I wanted to keep doing. To keep doing it over and over is pushing the envelope.

So I went this weekend and signed a lease for an apartment. It only added a few minutes to my day job and I am now only 10 minutes from the casinos.

It's safer and I will get better sleep and I can really work on my live game.

Thanks to everyone that posted their experiences here.

just get a wagon and tint the rear windows black

Used to on the weekends in AC. Only in the spring and summer though, and only once per trip usually. This was back in college (05-07), gas was cheap and a hotel room cut deep into my small win-rate playing 5-10 to 10-20 LHE.

Here's a good question: where's a decent place to sneak in a nap at a casino without getting a room?

I managed to sleep relatively undisturbed outside the poker room at Borgata once waiting for a friend who I rode with; a lot of tournament rooms will have a waiting area outside with some comfortable chairs too

Haven't tried it yet but the bathrooms outside of the ballroom/meeting areas would have to be money after hours without all the foot traffic

Actually I stayed mostly at smoking lounge and bar

I always ask if they will let me sleep in the safe. No success yet.

I never would sleep in such discomfort. I always have a portable bed and grill with me wherever I go. One time in Lorenzi Park I set up my bed and grill, had dinner. Put the grill away, and slept for 4 hours on my extremely comfortable bed.
