How Many Of You Have Slept in Your Cars? How Many Of You Have Slept in Your Cars?

Just curious of how many of you guys have slept in your car to save on hotel fees and increase poker profits? Have anything to share?

No, my casino is only five blocks away. But I guess I'll give it a try if you think it'll improve my game.

Unfortunately, I have to drive to another state to play poker. My closest casinos are an hour and a half away. Sometimes longer depending on the traffic.

I heard one of the poker players on either the Two Plus Two Poker Cast (which I love BTW) or the Rounders Radio podcast. I cannot remember who it was but he saved money on sleeping in his car. Now he is playing big games.

I have twice but only to take a short nap.

Really no need to do what you are suggesting in vegas anyways as you can get a cheap hotel for $20 a night and since you have a car can travel to whatever casino from your cheap room.

Gotta be worth at least $20 to be more comfortable than a car and be able to have a shower and not worry about being hassled.

I used to live in Vegas. Those were good days. I could play whenever I wanted and there was plenty of action. Now I pretty much only get to play on the weekends and the rooms are usually $100 to $300 a night depending on which casino and what is going on that weekend.

I have been putting in some 9 to 10 hour sessions and I am pretty tired after playing. Plus I do not like driving home and wanting to play at the casino the next day. That means I have to drive back over the next day if I want to play again. I try to play Friday and Saturday nights.

Slept in my car in vegas once when i just didn't want to bother getting a room for the day when i just wanted to sleep for 4 hours and then continue playing, was woken up by a security officer telling me that you weren't allowed to sleep in your car in venetian's parking garage. Wasn't about hte money was just about the convenience/fact i was dead tired and wanted to sleep immediately.

I haven't but I've certainly played with people who have. Flies buzzing around.

In California? lol.

I didn't think I had but someone mentioned napping. Definitely taken the odd powernap over a break

(if you need to take a powernap in your break you shouldn't be playing )

Just sleep at the table! Say you're sitting out and put on your sunglasses, nap nap nap away. Plus when you wake up, you don't have to walk from your car to the poker room.

It gets reasonably cold in parts of California and even here in the SF Bay Area in the winter - I often have to scrape frost off my car in the morning - but both times I'm referring to were in New England (once at Franconia Notch in NH and once in Acadia NP in ME), and both times were in the fall.

Numerous times. I almost always awoke in a panic.

I've slept in my car a few times, it's never very refreshing and I wouldn't want to play poker afterwards. Usually it's because I'm out all night for astronomy/photography and am worried I'd fall asleep on the drive home.

If I had a van or a SUV or station wagon or something, it might not be so bad, but with a coupe it's a pain in the ass even if I'm not tall.

I did this about 10 times during my month long stay in Vegas. Would do it more next time. I have a truck with a Canopy over the bed, so with a mattress, pillow, and sleeping bag, and the relatively warm Vegas nights in pretty safe casino parking lots, falling asleep instantly after long nights of poker and sleeping through the quiet mornings was no prob. They play music in the parking lots but when you're that tired it doesn't matter at all. Every second or 3rd night though it's night to get a bed and sleep longer.

Sometimes I'd just book hotels for every second night. So say I skip the tuesday night. I'll play poker all through the night (maybe a nap in the truck in the morning), check into a hotel in the early afternoon, sleep until the evening, go out and play again, then come back and sleep in the morning, and check out, thus getting 2 sleeps for 1 night hotel price, and still getting to play during the evening prime time.

Sleeping in a sedan or coupe is terrible. But a truck/van/suv set up so you can sleep comfortably will save you much more money that you'll spend in extra gas, if you use it for this purpose.

It's not a big deal, depending on the car.

I'm assuming you're probably talking about Mike Wolf. Amazing story of a kid traveling/living out of his car and working his way up from playing small stake cash games to some larger games in Vegas.

He updated this whole thing on 2+2 and you can find the thread here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...lorida-955154/

Amazing read.

I used to travel 2 1/2 hours to the closest casino that offered live poker. I would generally go for 4 days at a time and play $1/$3 or $2/$5 - If I made $400+ that day I would take $60 and get a room, if I did not break the +$400 mark I would sleep in my car, wasn't very comfortable as I have a Scion XB with bucket seats

Napping: multiple times not always intentionally.

Sleeping: a few times after drinking and being too drunk to drive home and too cheap to pay for a hotel or cab. Never after poker because I only play in my hometown and I don't drink and play.

I have an issue with driving late at night and have slept in my car many times.

I am 6'2'' and 210 lbs, I drive a 98 Camry and have no issues sleeping comfortably in my front seat reclined. +eV fo me!

Bring a sleeping bag and a pillow and bum it up. people used to sleep in caves and fields. Try it a few times and see if you get used to it.

I'm probably doing it in 2 weeks for some wsopc events in AC.

GRINDING

props to all them serious grinders out there.

I've seen lots of pillows and blankets in mini-vans on my walks in. But, have never done it for poker. I can't imagine i'd want to play afterward.
02-21-2013 , 12:59 PM
I've done this multiple times. I have a SUV and I bring a blanket and pillow crank the ac lock the doors zonk out!!!
I'd rather have a room but bring this as a backup. Sometimes I go spur of the moment and rooms are sold out...
