That doesn't work in every situation.

1. Twice I've met out-of-town 2p2ers at the Oaks and people picked up on the discrepancy of me introducing myself to them but knowing quite a bit about them. I explained that they're "friends of friends."

2. Since the LHE community on 2p2 is pretty small, when I introduce myself to 2p2ers, I generally mention that I know Jesse (since he's a well-known, public personality).

I don't mind when people help fish learn. I also love to talk strategy. But neither of those things should be done at a poker table IMO.

There are people that just want to gamble at the tables. They usually lose but sometimes win. (Like craps, BJ, roulette, etc...) They are fine with losing and blaming it on "bad cards." But when people make them feel inadequate by not understanding what is being discussed, or are made to feel dumb for playing a hand badly, they no longer are fine with losing their money. They tighten up or just rack up.

Keeping the fish comfortable is +EV

Have a beer and shoot the bull when you are playing live. If someone else makes a stupid and completely wrong remark about strategy...say something like "yeah, I see your point"

You should still be able to observe the players with a beer in your hand chatting about football or whatev. If you can do that and keep the mood light and gambooly ...you have a table full of people who will literally give you money and possibly buy you a beer.

Most recreational players, especially on the weekend want to just relax, toss in their two bucks and see what they get. It's like pulling a slot machine handle for them. (yeah I have Q4 suited...but hey...I could flop something and so far, it's only $2)

I mean, I won't talk direct strat...I might call for a card on the turn that I need....or fold a gutshot draw and call for my gutter to come in after I've folded ...silly stuff like that, but don't make the rec players feel inadequate. Don't give them motivation to play better or think about why they are doing things. It hurts your bottom line.

Also, give some action. Its usually -EV to straddle, but if alot of the players at the table are doing it...do it. It helps you become one of the crew....

I see ! What wonderful advise, drink beer and straddle. I also like to spew a couple of bi's in the first orbit or so just to make em really feel at home

If only Oaks had some kind of restaurant or lounge or lobby or outdoor smoking area or somewhere that's not the table, where you can chat with 2p2ers.

I don't imagine it comes up in conversation that much. Also discussing televised poker or hottest poker chicks on a forum doesnt exactly qualify one as poker crusher. Plenty of great players will never log onto 2p2.

Well, generally the agreement is to meet at the tables. It's not like, hay let's meet up at 6:30 and hug and kiss and sign up while holding hands. It's usually, hay my name's kevin and I look like a nerd, look for me at the 15/30 table.

Re: How have you avoided telling the fish about 2+2?

people have asked me at the table if I'm on 2P2 and even folks that I know for a fact are themselves on it, i ususally just look confused and say what's that. I like to keep a low profile, especially at the table, it's just how I roll. Usually works for me. Also and kinda sketchy I know, but I hand my players card to the dealer face down always.

Nothing sketchy about that; thar's just where you draw your privacy line.

Is it kinda sketchy that I try to get looks at the readout with players' names from time to time?

No, they are really, really good at very, very simple arithmetic.

Sorry for the hijack, however I am yet to see a conversation about complex analysis or number theory break out at a poker table.

Winning players don't talk about math at the poker table.

I've witnessed neither at the table, but have participated in a talk about group theory (in the context of riffling chips), with the other guy being a mathematics Ph.D. candidate.
