UPDATE: New $530 Monthly Superstack 500 Tournament ***Now has a $50k Guarantee***

Hi guys,

In the conversation I had with Merge earlier tonight, they told me about the latest tournament addition.

Starting later this month, we will be running our first $530 Monthly Superstack 500 tournament, on 29/1/2012 at 16.00.

This tournament will feature a 10000 starting chip stack, 20 minute levels starting at 20/40 and a unique payout structure, meaning less players paid and more for first place.

Example - Based on 45 players and a $22,500 prize pool, payouts would be as follows.

1st - $9,000
2nd - $5,625
3rd - $3,375
4th - $2,700
5th - $1,800

Entry methods: Cash, VIP points and Satellite Coupon.

We will be running Satellites for this tournament from as little as $1.10. Players will be able to parlay there way into the tournament using the following Satellites.

- $1.10 Rebuy Frenzy (Winners will receive $60 Coupons)
- $60 Freezeout NLH (Winners will receive $530 tournament entries, any remaining prize not making up a $530 entry will be paid out in cash)

I know this tournament will be great news for a large number of our MTT players.

Best of luck to all that play!

Ryan

Re: New $530 Monthly Superstack 500 Tournament

Great new tournament, thanks for adding. Guarantee is 20k.

Question about the payout structure -- it's currently not all that different from existing tournaments that pay 5 spots. For example, the 82r paid:

4,019 38%
2,750 26%
1,798 17%
1,269 12%
740 7%

The 500 proposal above is
9,000 40%
5,625 25%
3,375 15%
2,700 12%
1,800 8%

Is the difference that only 5 spots get paid even if the # of entrants exceeds 50 (which would normally pay 9 spots)? Or is it simply that couple percent more of the prizepool that go to 1st?

Hi,

I believe that only 5 spots are paid, no matter how many entrants, but I will confirm to be sure.

How often will the Satellites be running?

Also what about running $60 Coupon Full-Ring SNG satellites too. 60x9=540 so Tournament Ticket for 1st and $10 cash for Second. That way some people can use their $60 Coupons for either the MTT or a SNG.

I was wrong, the amount of paid places will increase as more players enter, just like in any tournament.

Merge are open to ideas on how you would like to see the payout structure based.

Also, editing title as it is a $20k Guarantee to start off with.

Post up your thoughts and requests for payout structures.

Cheers,

Ryan

Re: New $530 Monthly Superstack 500 Tournament

Thanks Ryan. I think the payouts are fine. A little top heavy, but with a good structure, I don't think that's a bad thing. I don't know for sure though -- I'll ask a few other regs and see if anyone has comments.

Re: New $530 Monthly Superstack 500 Tournament

I think the payout structures are solid for this new tourney. I like the idea of paying out 7 players for 50-75 players or so. 75-99 paying out 9 would seem ideal as well here.
Any ballpark on how many players that Merge is expecting for this? My guess would be around 60-80 players or so.
Additionally, this is a great add but I think you guys should get an early $200 Major going at 4pm, with the last week of every month being this $500 superstack! Adding satties to that just as you did with this one would benefit the site greatly.
Let me know your thoughts on adding an early $200 major.

I will raise the suggestion with Merge and see if it falls within the scope of their tournament program design.

Re: New $530 Monthly Superstack 500 Tournament

For future months, more satellites would definitely help to increase the number of entrants. The 1x per day $60 satty isn't quite enough. 2-3 tournaments a day that guarantee a seat would be ideal.

I would also recommend a $60 super satellite the day before the tournament -- similar to the WSOP/APPT/etc live event satellites -- with 5-10 seats guaranteed. Offer satellites to the super satty with daily tournaments with buyins of 1r, 3r, 5r, 3 FO, 6 FO, and 10 FO, each of which guarantees a seat to the $60 super satty.

Definitely something we will consider.
