1) Confirmed ... New room in West Olive operated by the 'Woodys' owner. All in One Banquet Center. This room is trying to draw from Grand Haven, Holland and GVSU folks coming from Allendale I suppose. Not so sure it will work well once Winter hits us but they are giving it a go.

2) There are a couple of different 'Leonard Street' possibilities that have been in the mix, but none have been confirmed as of yet.

3) 'New' rooms? Unlikely, but you never know. Anything in Allegan County might be tough to do with Gun Lake right there. Granted they don't have live poker, but it's still a draw.

We will find out soon enough as with school (and football) starting up the poker rooms should start to fall into their 'normal' patterns which last through the end of March. GL

Couple of WM players went deep in the HPT Event #1 $300 BI event. Both finished in the top 20 but didn't quite make it to the Final Table. I believe the payout was over $2k but not quite $3k for their take.

HPT ME (@ AmeriStar, not SEagle) is this coming weekend at $1100 BI. GL

Do you know if All In Banquet Center has tournaments, cash, or both?

Happened to drive by All In One this morning, saw a sign that said Poker Room Open. Don't think I will be in the area during likely open hours any time soon though.

Heard good things about AIB yesterday. At least 1 cash table with a 2nd a few times pretty much all weekend. They want to offer a $50 freeze out each day (time=?) for now and then maybe expand the tournament offerings once the players give some feedback.

The state is going through some annual auditing with the charities right now so for those of you who check the 'Millionaire Party Locator' you may see some gaps in the schedule for some of the rooms. The charity may have applied for the licence but needed to supply some additional information beyond the normal paperwork. I have found that it's a good thing to let the room know what you are seeing online as sometimes they aren't aware that the charity is 'UTG' for dates coming up soon. GL

Been awhile ...

1) Most charity rooms are doing well right now so yo should be able to find a game if you really want to play.

2) Heard of a new room will open in Muskegon soon. How soon ??? Don''t know. But there was a new Supplier that popped up on the state site and that was the feedback I got from a good source.

3) King's actually sold out before 8:00 PM on a Friday night .. amazing. Normally this wouldn't be a good thing, but quite a few player's lockered their chips so the cash games did continue after tournament bust-outs.

4) MSPT is creeping closer for Firekeepers next month. Check out the expanded room and go after some satellites if you have time. I haven't been watching BRAVO as much as normal so I'm not sure how things are going down there.

5) Woody's Thursday 2-5 is always looking for new players. If you don't make it for the 7:00 start you can usually get a seat by 10:00 if you call ahead .. BI is limited to $200-$500 before 11:00 and then may increase if chips are available.

6) Spent 2 hours at Soaring Eagle Saturday .. same stuff. They opened a 1/2 instead of the PLO and then promptly had to close a 1/2 when the PLO players left the 1/2s they were playing!! It took 20 minutes to open the PLO since the players were still hanging around their 1/2 tables. First PLO dealer was not too good, but the other 2 were fine before I had to leave. The PLO players were really digging for information on the state of poker 'elsewhere' and also trying to get me to come back and bring more PLO players to SE. Not likely, but nice try. GL

2) I just looked at the Millionaire Party locator and did a Muskegon County search. Every entry had "Northway Lanes" (city of Muskegon) as the location. No new Muskegon County location was listed.

Cliff .. don't be like my Mother .. 'Soon' is a relative term. If they were opening up next week I would've put that in there. It took 9 months for the 'Holland' rumor to come true .. and it's not even Holland, it's West Olive.

1) A new supplier based in Kent County showed up on the state's list .. fact.
2) Good source indicates they want to operate in Muskegon, not Kent County .. reliable.
3) The will open as soon as they can ... subjective.

I know you would love to have options, hopefully they can try to get it going. GL

Understood. I wrote only because you said something "popped up" on the state site and I couldn't find anything.

Hey guys - new to 2+2 and found this thread looking for games in GR.

@answer20 - is Woody's only open on Thursday? I went by on Wednesday around 6pm but everything was closed down. I've mostly been playing at TJ's and Kings a couple of times.

Interested in hopping in on the 2/5 game at Woody's. Does King's just wait for the 2/5 list to grow big enough? Does that usually only happen on Fri/Sat?

Cheers.

Woodys is open from 1000 AM to 1:45 AM Monday to Thursday. They shut down from 440 to 530 to change charities per state regulations.

They play mainly 1-2 but have a 700 1-3 RxR game on Monday nights and a 700 2-5 game on Thursday nights. They run the 2-5 on Thursday since there are 3 other rooms open on Thursday in Kent County.

The 'evening' charity for this week didn't file the proper paperwork in a timely manner so they didn't run at all after 440. This happens occasionally to the disappointment of all!!

Woody's number is 616-588-2192 for 1 hour call-ahead for the current session, but you can call ahead anytime you want if you want to be at the 'first' table at 530. The dealers there will also take down your cell phone and you can communicate with them that way as well ... especially if you are interested in the RxR or 2-5.

A 2-5 game at a charity room is pretty rare but you will find that the 1-2 games run just as deep (and crazy) as any 2-5 casino game you will find in Michigan. Personally I wish that some rooms would run a 1-2 and a 1-3 just to keep some of the short stacks from hovering around the 1-2 games. They both have their place in a charity room. GL

OK .. my weekly bump in the thread!! Not much 'new' to report this week ...

1) Woody's 2/5 tonight at 7pm ... phone ahead to be put on the list. Starting table is probably set by now but players are usually needed by 930 or so. Don't take my word for it .. CALL!! (see above post for phone number)

2) Finally got down to Firekeepers Saturday night. Expanded room looks good and I'm sure they aren't done yet. BJ and UTH table games are now in the poker room as well to save you the walk when you want to take your 'break' from poker!!

3) MSPT qualifiers/satellites ... 2 tomorrow and 2 on Saturday. Then starting next Friday there will be 'something' everyday leading up to the ME with the first Day 1 on Thursday October 13th.

4) WSOPc is also in Hammond in October ... check out their schedule if you want. They are giving away seats to Event 1 (?) 3-4 times a day via table draw and high card.

5) BBJ hit at Motor City last week .. so MGM now has the highest in Detroit at around $370K .. Don't worry .. MCC's will probably grow and pass MGM's before it hits!!

6) Find all your 1/2 action tonight at Westgate, Kings, Lincoln and West Olive (Muskegon too?). Use the Millionaire Party Locator link on the State of Michigan's government website and search for a game near you! GL

For those of you interested in such things, the Michigan Gaming Control Board has revised their Millionaire Party application. I got this in my E-mail today.

Hi all!
I just joined this website because I love poker and have heard some "chatter" that West Olive is going to open a poker room on US 31 & Stanton area. I sure hope the chatter in the rumor mill is correct. A poker room is desperately needed and West Olive is a perfect place to pull in GH / Holland / Allendale and all of the surrounding places.

I drove by the building and they have a large sign....with my favorite word plastered I just hope this isnt a tease for us all.

The room in West Olive at All In One Catering had a soft opening a couple of weeks ago. I've heard that they are looking to put together a full continuous schedule 'soon'. That room will be 'supplied' by the same group that is in Woody's but will probably have separate staff.

@annie .. Welcome ... a good way to get up to speed with this thread would be to go back about 5-8 pages and just read coming forward. Certainly would be nice to have a few more folks posting here!!

MSPT 'week' starts today!! There are qualifiers and satellites every day starting today at Firekeepers. Main Event Day 1A is Thursday followed by Friday and Saturday (duh!!). $1100 entry directly into ME. GL

I've thought about this and it's a tough call. I want to be able to trade ideas and information with other players. On the other hand, inviting players who don't know about poker forums could be tapping the fish tank.

I have only told one player about this thread. She had a poker coach/backer who worked with her every day for a year and she has a record of making serious money playing poker. I thought that we could benefit from her insights.

Alas, I have not seen her post in this or any other thread. I have seen her in four different West Michigan poker rooms in 2016.

A successful female player in multiple WM poker rooms? That's a pretty short list .. there might be a couple of candidates but I never would've suspected that they had been receiving coaching. Good for her!!

This goes back to some of the better players trying to keep me from teaching the table or explaining some of my moves 'too much'. They feel that it will either make the table tougher or drive them away from the game. I certainly can see both sides of those 'options' happening.

Inviting folks into the thread can also present strategy insight to players that they could possibly use against us and/or start rumors and such. That's just one of the risks you take with online content. I don't really have anything to hide or would 'not' discuss in person with anyone if they wanted.

I do think, although this is public, that talking about some of these topics is much easier and more appropriately done away from the table. GL

If this were any other game, without money on the line (like chess), the players would be friendlier to each other. They would talk strategy more often. The best players would work together more.

Great showing at MSPT Day 1A from GR players. 36 total of 190 made Day 2 on Sunday (including me, YES) and if you look at the list you should see some names you may know, including Casey Carrol as chipleader!!

In what has to be one of his first tournaments I've seen him play, Ozzie bagged a top 5 chip stack as well!!

They set a new Day 1A record by quite a margin so they are thinking that it could exceed 1000 entries (not people, entries) when Day 1C closes on Saturday. If that happens then first place could be very close to $200K!! (I could use that.) GL

Min cashed the MSPT despite never being above 100k in chips. Started Day 2 with 86k but never could get anything going. Had AA twice in my SB, but both times ended up HU with BB and he only played along the first time. Ended up '4-bet' shoving ATs into BB 77 (again the table folded around) and he hit a set on the Flop and I didn't get my runner runner straight to hit.

Cash afterwards was great as always on MSPT weekends. Played mostly PLO and was happy with the result. GL

Well, yes, but at the highest levels there is money in just about any game, from Scrabble to competitive eating to cliff diving to video games. I'm sure that must be true of checkers as well. I remember reading somewhere that many of the top checkers players are African.

In chess, at those levels, the players are not friendly with each other. They don't discuss strategy or work together.
