I never understand why people think 2/5 is so drastically better from 1/3. I think it's mostly an ego thing. People like to think "I'm too good for 1/3, I'm one of the 2/5 guys!" In any casino that has a bunch of 1/3 games and a single 2/5 game, the 2/5 game is almost always terrible, and it's only worthwhile function is to make the 1/3 games better by filtering out the hot shots.

idk about RR (the only consistent 2/5 game afaik), but when GV opens 2/5 on the weekends, it's a $1000 cap, and most players buy in for over 500 at least. It's nice to play a game where eff is over 100BB. Whereas at 1/3, if more than half the table is less than 100BB, most of the sexy hands (SC and one-gappers) just aren't worth playing.

Really sad to see the state of affairs for poker through casinos here in Vancouver. 2/5 and 5/10 should be common place in all rooms with all the money in the area...

These types of games ARE running in Vancouver... they're all just going underground now.

I dont seem to have any problem crushing Vancouver games. If you're having trouble winning here, i highly doubt you could win online.

B/e player/barely winning at .05/.10

Definitely no value in playing online at that rate

Agreed

I took a break from live poker for awhile in BC after frequenting Hardrock ( confirmed awful now with no phone-ins) in years passed but have recently started playing again as I've moved and live near Villa. I have been playing in the 1/3 regularly ($400 max buy)

It really is free money and man games can get wild. I played yesterday - 3 or 4 times players were shoving all in preflop with ATC while casually drinking. A woman two spots to my left bought in for 200 and was sitting on 1500 within 45 minutes

I have heard of Edgewater and River Rock--are these still good places to play?
I am picking up people from the cruise terminal but have a car so hoping parking isn't a hassle. Searched the forums and the last results are from 2015 so I wanted to get a current line on the games.

Oops! Looked in the wrong forum. Tried a search but not very good at it, I guess :-) Good stuff here, thanks. The one thing I would ask is which is most likely to have good action (or any action) on weekdays or weekday nights.

Yep both are fine to play at

Both are fine, but I think Edgewater makes for a much more fun experience, largely due to Riverrock's poker room being separated from the rest of the casino, dulling the atmosphere considerably in my opinion.

Last I checked Edgewater was at the end of the second floor behind the $5 minimum electronic baccarat, which is basically the same thing

But that was years ago, maybe it changed.

Poker rooms aren't known to change for the better. I'd love to be wrong.

They moved the Edgewater poker room to just at the top of the escalator, also reduced the number of tables. I think there are 9? now. Used to be about 20 when it was at the back. I believe the whole casino will also be moving across the street to the new Parq Vancouver casino, but no word on poker room.

Theres plenty of word about the future room. Even in this thread....

I looked back through the thread and found what you were talking about. I wouldn't say there was plenty of word, more like some and it seemed speculative. However I was at Edgewater today and spoke to one of the floors (Val?). He confirmed 6 poker tables in the new casino, possibly more if they can convince the higher ups. Room should open mid-late September according to him.

Also went to Grand Villa for the first time. Room has 6 tables on one side of the casino. Tables are nice, they seem bigger than the ones at Edgewater, also newer. Chairs are decent and the room is bright with big windows along the back wall. There were 3 1-3nl games going when I arrived and before I left they also had 2 2-5nl games going. I got there mid-afternoon and apparently the 2-5 usually gets going after 5ish. As noted above some people are definitely playing atc.
