Vancouver Bad Beat Jackpot $719,360 hit at River Rock Casino

I was there tonight and witnessed the stacking 700k+ bbj , i was a table away at a NL. It hit on a 3/6 Limit table.

Final Board: 9d3c5cJs4c
$359,680 ship to A2cc
$179,840 ship to 67cc
$25,691 ship to the remaining 7 players on table

Good day for them, bad day for me. Good game well played.

Speaking for Edgewater, they also added $6 button straddle option. So the stake increase is somewhat legit, and the straddles increase the action a bit further. The average pot overall probably increased by something like 30% with the changes. An increase in the buy in would've been a nice addition also, but didn't happen.

I had a random midweek afternoon available last week, so I call in, am told there's only 8 on the list, no live. I'm shocked, get over there, 4 tables, none are full. Sure enough, BBJ had ben hit 2 days prior, all the OMCs must've gone elsewhere, or just stayed home and watched Ellen.

Will be flying out to Vancouver next week, quite excited! Haven't been back in a few years. Definitely will do most of my grinding at RiverRock, do they have 2/5 running everyday and how often does 5/10 run?

Lastly, need some CAD, if anyone needs HKD, please hit me up. TY

5/10 very rare. 2/5 runs daily.

Just curious, why have you made this decision already? The biggest game in town is the PLO game downtown, but if you don't like PLO, then yes, River Rock will be your best place to play. It's a dismal poker room though with no energy as it's in a poorly lit room across the street from the rest of the casino. So if you've been gone a few years you'll be quite disappointed. And as a non-chinese person, the fact that 80% of the people speak chinese to each other constantly and the dealers and floor do nothing about it is unsettling. But if you're Chinese you may not be bothered by that.

I've played the 2/5 there several times, and the game ranges from bad to great, depending on who's there. Most players play primarily with green chips which is interesting for a 2/5, and there's a fair number of players who straddle and buy in deep. Most nights there are 2 tables.

It's been a few years since I've been back. I'll be staying nearer to Richmond therefore chose RiverRock as main place to grind.

Never played at Edgewater, only recall going to Plaza of Nations and going to Comedy Store back in the days. Don't play PLO but if Edgewater is a better place to grind, than sure I'll probably drive out to downtown. (Parking is convenient there?)

Have no clue, just a hunch, but kinda think downtown would have better skilled regs compared to suburbs, so RiverRock would be slightly softer?

Richmond protip: Learn hand rankings in chinese. Then you can understand when everyone is talking to each other after the hand and saying what they had.

I'd be quite tilted by this.

I've spent more time at the Edge than the Rock playing 1/2. I found the Rock to be alot nittier, where as Edge was more mixed. Some experienced players, but also some rich guys playing just for entertainment. Edge is probably going to draw a higher end demographic since its downtown.

Parking is more convenient and safer at Edgewater IMO.

Hey guys, checking in once again to see if there are any locals to want to meet and talk some poker strategy.

Currently playing low stakes MTTSNGs, and have played live cashgame at the casino.

Just wondering if anyone in Van was interested in the idea of renting a place to have a poker house type environment.

I would only be playing part time myself, but it would be cool to constantly engage with a roommate who was dedicated to the game. I wouldn't be able to start it until June of this year at the earliest, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I'd prefer to meet someone well before to get an idea of personality and roommate chemistry before committing to the idea; but I think it could definitely be a win/win situation

I live downtown right now. I'm most open to downtown, and the general Vancouver and Burnaby areas.

Are there any tournaments in Vancouver that run at least once per week and get at least 50 players consistently?

The answer is actually yes. $80 buy in, usually over 60 players. I don't play it because I prefer cash games and bigger stakes, but the venue is well run by a good guy. PM me if you're interested.

I'm interested. But what about at any of the casinos around here?

I'm just a night-time/graveyard cash player, but I think the morning tournament at Edgewater usually gets 2-3 tables. Once in a while I play all the way throughb the night and see the morning tourny guys waiting around. Other than, tournaments are pretty much dead here. Once a month they run something bigger like a $450 buy in, one of these months I'll finally get around to playing that.

I heard somewhere that the Parq won't have any poker when they take over the Edgewater licence and open in the Fall. Is this true?
