I just got back from Tunica and was a bit confused by this myself. I played mostly at Horsehoe and once at Harrahs, and they definately clock players in and out at both places. At Horseshoe they even have the table Bravo system. Can't imagine they are bothering to use this if you aren't accruing something for playing, though I never got around to asking. I thought possibly I was earning an hourly Total Rewards amount in addition to the free meals Horseshoe was comping me. Anyway, I made sure to clock in and out so they knew I was playing as I had reserved a room at the poker rate (but I heard even the 5 hour requirement is not enforced, so I don't think they clock players for only that reason).

Thanks for the information. This group will definately play 4-5 hours at a time. I think only one of the group likes table games. As for Paula Deen's, I have heard it is good but don't want to eat all that and then be miserable at the tables. Food in Tunica is basically minimum nourishment as cheaply or free as possible. I hate to spend money on it at one casino when I know I can get it free at another.

Yeah, when they installed the Bravos I got the impression that:
1. Harrah's mgmt wanted to track player time.
2. The local staff was successful at preserving the casual, "play a little while and we'll feed you," attitude that prevails in Tunica.
3. No one could really tell precisely what they were for, but perhaps down the road you might get Total Rewards points or something.

Apparently not much has changed.

I arrived at Tunica last night, after an all day drive down from Philly. 1,000 miles in the rain - not as much fun as one might think. But no problems, and thanks to my 2:30 am start time, I made it through Baltimore and around Washington with NO TRAFFIC! Woo Hoo!!

Met up with a friend who is living in the area and had a free buffet (he had picked up comps for 2 - seems that they are given away freely. Also, according to him, don't ask at the poker room or it comes off your comps. Ask a host at the slot machines (fake playing, it isn't like they check) or something.

On checking this morning, my Tier Credits are up 44 points after 1 1/2 hours of 1/3 play - so it looks like they pay the same as LA - 28 per hour. Can't say about comps, as some bonus money from AC also kicked in. I'm guessing $1 an hour, but not at all sure.

Play here is really soft. Picked up $71 in 1 1/2 hours before the need for sleep became overwhelming. Saw people call down pots with any pair, fold to $15 bets into a $100 pot, saw a lady limp in with QJ, flop JT9 - she checked! Then, after a bet and 3 callers, just checked again! Gotta luv it.

On another hand, the betting went

Player 1: Limp
Player 2: $7 (he was doing this a lot for some reason. Mostly loosing money with it because he'ld fold after the flop to most bets.)
Player 3: $40

Player 1: Call!! Maybe $150 behind in relation to player 3, much less effective in relation to player 2. I can't think of a hand where this can be right.....

Where's that? That statement doesn't even make sense to me; my "comps" aren't something I was aware I was accruing anywhere in Tunica except Sam's.

This would be surprising in a $1-2 game in AC?

Of course it's terrible, but IME most small-stakes B&M opponents are there to see flops and have fun.

Is there ever any limit Omaha Hi/Lo spread at any room in Tunica?

I was just there last week and they had a 4/8 O8 at the Horseshoe. Not sure if it goes every day, but it went at least on the Thursday and Friday I was there.

The 4/8 game was going today. Started around 2:15 pm and was still going strong when I left the table (up over $100) around 8:40 or so.

The regulars there said that it goes most days. Hope so, because it would be fun to play again tomorrow.

When I stopped playing regularly in Tunica ~6 months ago, the Omaha game was stuck at the Strike. Everyone agreed that it needed to move to the Horseshoe because of the BBJ, but seemingly no one had succeeded in luring the O8 players over there. Glad to hear they finally did.... at least, until the Horseshoe BBJ hits.

---

Speaking of O8, would anyone be interested in trying to get a pot-limit O8 game going? I'd be willing to do a PLOH/PLO8 rotation, or anything else people want to try there.

Anybody know anything about the Pearl River resort? I'm gonna be stuck in Columbus, MS for two months and I saw this place is about 30 miles away, much closer than Tunica. The website shows a full tourney schedule. Are the side games any good? Of course I live in Pensacola, so I'll be missing the first few weeks of uncapped NL at the Dog Track, when people are sure to be throwing away the rent money.

30 miles? Better check that map again. But it's definitely closer than Tunica. The room has gone far downhill in the past couple of years--as has the rest of the casino. Weekend action can still be decent but mostly 1/3 NL and 4/8 (IIRC) limit. Possibly a 2/5 NL game going. Don't count on finding much in the way of cash games there during the week.

Yeah, that's the problem -- once they throw away the rent money, it's hard to keep them coming back. But you may have convinced me to go down for that week!

How far are the other casinos from Harrahs Tunica? I'm heading down to Memphis, TN for a Family Reunion and staying at Tunica. Never played outside Atlantic City. How are the games out there...

Not really trying to play NL...mostly wanna play some 5-10 or 10-20 O8 or LHE, might even play NL, do they even spread 102 NL

Reading through the threads, seems like its dead around there...So I might have to venture to other casinos...

There are no casinos with more poker action anywhere near Tunica than the ones in Tunica.

All the rooms have mostly NL games, but the Horseshoe has 4/8 LHE and 4/8 O8, and bigger LHE games on the weekends.

They do have a poker room at Harrahs as well, but only 4/8 LHE and 1/3 NL.
Even then you cannot just walk downstairs though, as the hotel at Harrahs is a different building than the casino. There is a shuttle that goes between the hotel and casino every 5 minutes or so that just takes a few minutes.
They also have a shuttle bus every 15 minutes between the Harrahs casino and the Horseshoe.
It takes no more than 5 minutes or so to drive between the two, and it was easy parking for me at Horseshoe.
Roadhouse (also owned by Harrahs) and Gold Strike (MGM/Mirage) are right on either side of the Horseshoe, would be a very quick walk.

When I went I called Horseshoe about getting a poker rate room, they were already booked, but offered me a poker rate at Harrahs, which was only $30 for a weeknight. I think it would have been $45 at Horseshoe. Both a bit more expensive weekends, I think maybe $45 and $60 or so.

Got a question about NL tournaments. I noticed that there are several daily tournaments at the poker rooms in Tunica. Which are better than others? By better I mean other than payouts. Is an $80 buy in tourney at one casino better than a $60 buy in at another because of the structure, typical players, etc? I have only played one tournament in a casino many years ago and would like to give it another shot. Again, my time to be there is Memorial Day weekend.

TallVol: Do Google searches for "Horseshoe Tunica" and "Gold Strike Tunica." That will point you to the casinos' web sites themselves, which have a good amount of info about tourney buy-ins & structure. I've only played one tourney at the Shoe, but I enjoyed it. Good structure, well-organized.

BTW, I might be in Tunica this Sunday to blow my first Full Tilt withdrawal check at the 2pm deepstack tourney at the Shoe. Anyone know how many runners they usually get on a Sunday?

So I need to go to Horseshoe to get a O8 game? Is it usually only 4/8 or can I find a 5-10 or 10-20 game?

Which ones run 5-10 or 10-20 LHE?

The regular game is 4/8 half-kill. The good news is, it's gone every day this week.

Around the World Poker Open (starting July 29) you might find $10-20 (half-kill?) at the Strike.

Horseshoe and sometimes Strike run 4/8. Never seen a 5/10 (terrible structure, anyway) or 6/12. Last fall I saw 10/20 on occasion when the weekend 20/40 broke at the Horseshoe. Not sure if they've had any 10/20 lately.
