Also, I didn't realize St. Louis had so many bad beat chasers. I was at Harrah's last Saturday night and it was the most crowded I have seen in a while. I heard from someone that traffic has been picking up now that they have the highest bad beat.
This bad beat chasing you are talking about drives me crazy. I play Lumiere regularly and the place was packed with action while the BBJ was high and now that it is low the place just takes forever to get multiple games going.

I just don't understand the way people think. Do they seriously play poker to hit the bad beat?

This has got to be a joke right? Ameristars dealers are the worst in STL, there are a few that are good but seriously less than a handful. The dealers are the reason I don't go to ameristar because playing 10 hands per half hour tilts the fk out of me.

On a side note, I hate that ameristar took the 2/5 game, i refuse to play with those dealers

I can't believe it either, but yes they do. I once commented that I would prefer no BBJ and you would've thought I just shot a puppy given the looks they gave me.

The best is when someone limps, you raise preflop and they give you a death glare then chuck their cards into the muck and say "I'm folding a bad beat hand" and get all pissed off.

I got that at Harrah's last fall when the bad beat was way up there. "I get good bad beat hands, and this guy keeps raising."

I see a lot of internet players going nuts at the tables theese days and they all basicly have no patience and all head straight to harrahs their first outings get busted head over to ameristar where everybody is talking about how soft the game is with easy money.I know everyone has prefanaces but why let your comps only last six months?

The best I could piece together from this thread is, go to Ameristar for PLO and it may or may not run on weeknights.

Does that sound about right or is there any other PLO midweek action I may be missing?

Thanks

Yeah, small suited connectors mostly would be my guess -- 2c3c, 5d7d, stuff like that. I doubt that anyone there to play the bad beat is going to be good enough to let go of a pair, no matter how small.

Really?

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad to have them at my 3-6 table.

I'm pretty much an all inclusive Lumiere player but thinking about going to Ameristar on Thursday. What time can I expect the 2/5NL game to get started? Also, if there are any PLO or mixed games running this day, what time do they run?

I don't really want to start a specific TR thread, so I'll just include it in here:

High Notes/Introductory Summary: Some of the friendliest people I've met for poker were in St. Louis. I didn't play great, but like usual, well enough to make a profit. Bottom line, I had fun doing it at three different locations that were all well run and had competant dealers. I wore a Syracuse hat the entire time, so some of you might remember me from that.

Report Specifics:
Day 1: Get into town at 9AM and am staying near the Convention Center at a Holiday Inn (I hate Holiday Inn's and this one didn't change my mind). As I approach the room, I feel an arctic blast from under the door, and once I swiped the card three times and the door opened, I thought I was in a Coors Light commercial covered in frost. Then I go to turn off the thermostat and find that it is hanging from the wall by a wire and it isn't responding. Knowing I have to be at the Lumiere to register for their Noon tourney, I don't have time to fool around with heat control. The friendly lady at the desk says it will get taken care of. Looks like poker players aren't the only ones who lie on the job.

So, I decide to walk the 4 blocks to Lumiere. My decision making is off to a rough start. First off, some dude asks me for $20 as I walk by. I'm in a pastel blue polo shirt, which not only identifies me as an easy mark, it also screams that I won't fight back if attacked by a shiv. As I walk under the highway, the dude begging at the corner sees me from a block away and prepares to approach. My poker training makes the read that if I run, he won't be willing to smear the load he left a few hours ago and will continue shuffling along. First good read of the day, but now I'm at the Lumiere and sweaty.

I buy in to the Saturday Noon tourney for $55 and see that the casino is pretty nice. The poker room is well staffed and the guy running it seems friendly. I get into the tourney in Seat 2 and immediately the dude to my right raises my blind trying to steal. Seat 10 raises it again and he Seat 3 lays down faster than a porn star. This is going to be frustrating. Turns out the blind stealer was a guy named Tim and he made my trip enjoyable. Great guy to play with, and he was super tight at the cash games, which meant I could avoid him. I'm getting nothing going and starting to get to the point where the blinds are hurting, so with 10BB's left, I pick up Q-Jo in early position. I push all-in and Tm immediately says, "Why did you do that, you only get called if you're beat". I knew he was right, but I was ready to take a chance. Bad move, but I get called by K-10o and spike a J on the river. Since I'm recognizing that these tourneys are going to be shove-fests, I decided to shove.

Next orbit I get KK and raise on the flop and take down the pot. Two hands later, I get QQ and flop trips and double up. From there, I cruise to the final table. We get down to 4 and I'm mid stacked and raise 5x with AcQc, chip leader calls, and the flop comes KhQs6d. The chip leader goes all in. I didn't put him on a K, so I call. He flips over K2, I don't improve and I'm out. I was freerolling after the QJ move, a point Tim reminded me of about 25 times, so taking down $150 seemed fine.

I play some 3/6 limit waiting for a NL seat to open up, and I actually win two of the first three hands by bluffing with missed draws on the river, and the bluffs worked! People are playing tight. I love it. Win $125 in 15 minutes and decide to give up n NL because I have to go back to Iceland and get ready for Harrah's 7PM tourney.

Day 1, Lumiere up $210.

Cliff Notes: Get to St. Louis, avoid hypothermia and getting stabbed, win some cash and had some fun people to talk to.

One note: Lumiere was a top class poker room, but they should make it easier to cash out. I had to take a slip up to the cashier to get my winnings, which isn't a hassle, but I ended up having some lunch after cashing in and forgot to tip the dealer. It is so much easier to do that when a rack is given to you. I felt bad, because I always have tipped out after cashing.

Follow-up TR to follow
