I stopped for a night in Shreveport on my way from Houston to Memphis. I really enjoyed the Horseshoe. The men's restroom being located in the poker room is pretty awesome. I only got to play for a couple of hours, but the $1/3 game was sick, sick, sick. Pots were routinely $100 before the flop. It was the best $1/3 game I have ever been in.

The boardwalk near the casinos is cool if you want to do some shopping. The one thing I dislike about Tunica is there is nothing to do except gamble. That is not the case in Shreveport. Next time we go, the wife can go shopping while I play poker. The cab service was pretty good in town as well.

I will be returning.

Good review. I agree that a huge benefit of Shreveport/Bossier is the shopping and dining options for the wives and families. There is a ton of great local restaurants in the area if you know where to look or who to ask. There is a ton of shopping and the Boardwalk is a great all day experience for the women. Excellent point about Tunica also. My wife and I love Tunica and it's dirt cheap (although it's 7.5 hours away) but we can't really go with another couple because none of my friend's wife's are willing to just sit by the pool or goof off around the casino for 3-4 days. And there is NOTHING else to do there.

Too bad Bossier doesn't have all the poker rooms that Tunica does.

One thing that I find as a big plus for the Horseshoe in Bossier is the dealers. They have a great crop of dealers, most of whom are very good at their job and very personable. I've played in some rooms, Tunica included, where the dealers were horrible and their personalities were so bad they actually distracted from the game.

The Horseshoe is my favorite poker room. As far as keeping the ladies happy, Shreveport has a couple of nightclubs nearby: Chicky's Boom Boom Room and Chicago's. The first is really skanky and a ton of fun, the second is a little more classy and still a good time. Shreveport is a Big Medical town so there are a lot of cute doctor/nurse types to be found.

Good luck.

I'm one of the younger regulars at the shoe. I play strictly NL 1-3, and the 2-5 games when they are going ( mainly the weekends )...There is plenty of money to be made at the shoe. The 1-3 Games can get very deep, but as of right now it's a little slower with the WSOP circuit ending and Holidays not to far away.

Just better overall atmosphere, dealers, games etc. I believe everyone should make their own decision, but like most...you will pick the horseshoe.

Played the 2-5 tonight came home +3.2k fwiw

I am planning on coming back the weekend before Christmas. I will be playing the $1-3 games. I don't know how busy the casino will be, but I checked for a room at the Shoe and it was going to be at least $300 a night.

Is it safe to walk from that Courtyard Marriot to the Horseshoe at all times? I did the walk last time I was there and it was fine, but I will probably walking back late at night and hopefully with lots of cash on me.

I don't think this is the main thread for the 'shoe I was looking for , but I can't find it so this will have to do.

Got utterly destroyed last night in a mix of mostly run bad, but a fair amount of play bad to be honest. I'm more interested in hearing information about the HUGE game(s) that were running last night. They started a $2/5 half and half game that I decided to jump in. I bought $500 and was well covered. While that wasn't surprising, I was somewhat shocked when the game got started and people were getting $500 in preflop with regular ease. I busted (obv) but when I looked in on the game a few hours later, there was easily $30K+ on the table. One guy I was talking to said these guys sometimes will run a $25/50 PLO game that gets really nuts and that they were probably just blowing off steam in this game.

Anyone know of this game? Or can point me in the direction of the main thread with others who might know more about the game?

Does anyone know how the traffic at El Dorado is for 1/2 compared to the Horseshoe's 1/3 game?

Horseshoe will almost have twice as many (at least) players and games running as does El Dorado. That being said, El Dorado games are some of the softest I've ever seen.

Thanks for the response. My resources are pretty limited, and if I can buy in for 150 an have 75 bbs instead of 50 that's big.
