Garden City has the best floors/dealers/waitresses in the city.
Haven't played in SJ in about yr and a half. But I seriously doubt this.

Went to Garden City today and heard about the cell phone cheating incident. Apparently, there were 2 guys in the 2-3-5 game that were using the iPhone 4 FaceTime video chat feature to show each other their hole cards while playing hands together.

The Floor discovered what they were doing and the next day a memo was issued to all the dealers forbidding the use of cell phones at the table. I don't know what happened to the cheaters. I saw the dealers consistently enforce the new rule. Cell phones can no longer rest on the table even if the player is not using it.

Did they have their phones sitting on edge with the camera pointed at their hole cards? I can't come up with any other arrangement that aims the camera at the hole cards while keeping the screen visible.

But wouldn't that be incredibly obvious? It would expose the entire screen to the adjacent players and anyone walking by. You'd have to think someone would get curious, glance at the screen, and realize it was a live camera feed. Not to mention that I've never seen anyone play at a poker table with his iPhone standing on edge, which would make people even more likely to check it out.

+1

Overall the dealers and floor are excellent. I enjoy playing at GC, great atmosphere, players having a good time, and spewing chips constantly no matter what game you are playing.

Tourist question...Google maps says it will take me 20 minutes to drive to LC, and 21 minutes to drive to AJ's. I'll be playing on a Saturday and Sunday and it looks like it is $50 per day to rent a car. How much would would it cost to cab it?

Cab it ... from where? If you're in San Francisco proper, you should be able to cab it there and back once a day for less than $50; if you're on the Peninsula, maybe not. But both LC and AJ's are accessible by BART - they have shuttles that will run you to the closest BART station. (So does the Oaks, just FYI.)

I would be cabbing from Union Square. Also, being unfamiliar with the area how easy/difficult will it be to grab a cab at LC or AJ's when I am ready to head back to the city?

I'm 80% sure that LC and AJ's will help you call a cab when you're ready to leave, and 100% sure that you can always just independently call a cab. Both are reasonably close to the city and AJ's is a mile from SFO so there are always cabs there that can be called.

LC has a much larger number of tables and selection of games than AJ's. Getting to/from LC from SF by BART is quite easy. Take the BART to the Colma BART stop. Can take cab from there to LC (prob 5 bucks) or wait for the LC shuttle, which runs every 30 minutes. Return shuttle from LC to BART station is same deal. If you plan on leaving after ~midnight (when BART shuts down), grabbing a cab easy - usually 3 or 4 cabs waiting outside front door of the casino. My guess is it will cost ~$45-50 for trip from LC to SF and vice versa. BART will be about $5-10 roundtrip (half that one-way).

AJ's is right by caltrain, which is a great cheap option from the city. Literally a block away. BART is a bit farther but you can hook to caltrain from BART also, they share a station.

Bay 101 always has a $2/3/5 NL game running. There are about 4-6 tables in the afternoon to evening. This dwindles down to two tables past twilight, then merges into one table at around 5-6am. A $5/10 NL game also runs most of the day, and sometimes into the wee night. Bay 101 doesn't run a $10/20 NL game, but about once every week there is a $25/50 NL game filled with players that are way beyond my skill level. Recently Faraz Jaka (aka, the toilet) has been playing the $5/10 and $25/50 but I haven't seen him in over a week.

I realized that the questioner might not want to take public transit if he's carrying a lot of cash.

This may have been answered, but does anyone know what my chances are of finding a 5/10 or higher NL game at Lucky Chances if I walk in at, e.g., 8 p.m. on a Wednesday or 1 p.m. on a Saturday? If I can find one at either or both of those times, any guesses on an average wait time?

Thanks in advance.

you most certainly will find a game on these two times, on saturday afternoon perhaps even a feeder game as well.

waiting time is hard to guess, but you can call in beforehand up to i think 45 min? that will definitely help!

Coming out to SF this week on business. What NL games usually run at Lucky Chances on Tue/Wed nights. I've played as high as 10-20 there but usually 5-10 or 3-5. Also recall there was a 3-5 PLO high game on Tues or Wed. Does that game make? How big does it play? Thanks in advance.

K done for today.... First impression = ummmm is the 1-2-2 game even beatable? I ended +244 but that was with aa v kk for a ~400 pot aipf. What kind of hourly is possible at that level? Ppl weren't good but not droolers if they were they usually sat w ~100 bucks. Better luck at garden city?
