Walk me through this.

A guy runs in with a gun, takes a bunch of chips. The police arrive, and the cardroom just says, "Thanks guys but it's cool." The police walk away and have no legal obligation to investigate?

Sounds like a standard police "investigation" to me. Had to do a report once in Sac regarding a break in/theft and they basically said we can't really do anything about it (because it was a roomate situation). Didn't even file a report or question the guy.

Dang, I don't have my finger on the pulse of the bay area card scene, so wasn't aware until driving to see my parents a couple of months ago that this Bay 101 project is going on. I just read that they had tried to relocate to Milpitas to get out from under the San Jose regulations which would have been crazy because I could see Bay 101 becoming Commerce North if, for instance, the restriction on the number of tables was lifted.

I'm curious how long the casino will actually close over the course of the move (if at all)

Bumbs own the building, Peery&Arrillaga the land.

Lease on the land is expiring. Building to be razed.

Peery&Arrillaga is going to build a corporate campus on the site. Tenant not announced as far as I know.

Quick note for anyone searching for info on the Oaks. I made my first trip yesterday and was prepared to walk through a war zone.

I was pleasantly surprised. All of the old info on 2P2 about it being in a seedy area is out of date. Gentrification has hit this neighborhood pretty hard, and IMO you are more likely to see yoga moms than gangbangers. Granted, it was broad daylight, but I had no reservations walking back to MacArthur (~15 minutes) with $800 in on me.

Obviously, you are never completely safe, so be careful. And this is still the Bay Area, so you may a bum someone shooting up or defecating. But it didn't strike me as any more likely here than in Union Square.

What would it take to build a commerce/bike size cardroom in SF? The Bay Area needs one of those.

Another 1906 size earthquake, if you are talking about The City.

Otherwise, there is a state moratorium on new cardrooms (or expansion of current establishments) into 2020. Original moritorium was 1998 -> 2015 but was extended in 2011. Does not cover Native American casinos.

And personally I don't think the area needs a Commerce sized casino.

+1

Unless transit improves to the point where you can reasonably get people to a single casino, the player pool just isn't big enough.

You don't think so? How big is it and how big does it need to be? I am not challenging you but rather trying to understand where you are coming from.

Imagine if all the games going in the area were magically held under one roof, it would be 150 or so tables (smaller than Commerce) and that assumes someone who drives south to Graton and someone who drives north to M8trix could find somewhere in common to play.

What's up people!!! Heading to Oakland from South Florida for game 5 of the NBA Finals.

I need some suggestions on which poker room I should visit. Most likely I'll be staying in Oakland or San Fransisco after the game.

BAy101? The M8trix?

My primary game is 2/5. Where are the best/softest games? Not concerned with much else like, customer service, good food, clean, yada yada. I'm only concerned with the game.

Also, if anyone has some suggestions on Hotels, clean and affordable, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

The Oaks is the closest room. Bay 101 is the busiest room. M8trix is probably the nicest room. Cal Grand may be the softest. The Palace has an uncapped 1/2 game.

Lucky Chances is probably worth a mention, too, it's across the bridge but probably closer than CG.

I suspect hotels will be booked. Emeryville is a non-obvious spot to look for hotels but it'll probably be booked too. If poker is that important dor the trip you can consider staying out in Walnut Creek - there will be a trek to the Coliseum but at least you'll be close to Cal Grand.

Heading to SF and noticed most of the poker rooms are not on Bravo. How do you guys typically keep track of where the games are and the waitlists for these games? Thinking of playing 2/5 (or from what I gather 2/3/5) but can't seem to figure out concretely where the games are.

Where would you play if you were on a road trip headed north from SF and had about 3-4 hours to play 2/5 before continuing north?

M8rix and Bay 101

I played M8trix a few weeks ago on a business trip - good action and nice room although the wait lists were ridiculous. Good thing you can call in and get put on the lists.

Didn't play Bay 101 but have heard they have more tables but it's not as nice a room.

Lucky Chances and Graton are also worth checking out, not far from 101.

The name M8trix tilts me because the t is redundant.

"Do You Know the Way To San Jose?" , or at least the direction from The City?

1 hour each way + wait lists make these options bad if he has only 3-4 hrs to play.

Lucky Chances isn't as far south as M8trix/Bay101, but it is still south.

Graton would seem to fit his requirement the best.

Note: Assuming by "north" he means up 101. If he means up to the Chico/Redding area, then a place like the Oaks comes into play.

In the south bay the games are at Bay 101 and M8trix. Always. The parking lot is never empty. The bigger concern is waitlists that are too long. But that stuff evens out because they are only about a mile from each other. The main difference being that very big NL (10/25) is at the M8trix and very big LHE (80/160) is at Bay.

Most people live much closer to one cardroom than all the others. The cardrooms aren't clustered in one place like Vegas or even LA.

Most places will gladly tell you honestly what the waiting lists are like, again, because it's pretty rare that people are deciding between two places. At least for 2/3/5. You may get lied to (or at least told erroneously) if you're inquiring about a rare, big game.
