The regs at Oceans are nice to each other, dealers are nice to me, but a lot of the regs are dicks to me. In pretty polite so I don't really get it.

How are the games in viejas? Last time I checked they were only spreading 1/2 and 2/5... I'm not sure I want to play 1/2 cuz of the killer drop and 2/5 is out of my roll. I usually play limit but oceans is the only place that spreads higher than 4/8, which is a rake trap I think. The 2/3 felt just right tho skill wise for my roll but oceans is far as hell. Viejas is super close.

If anyone had an opinion, what poker room would be considered the best in the area?
Well, Rincon is pretty much dead for poker now that they moved their room. The room itself is nice, but it gets ZERO "tourist" traffic now. daytime they usually have one 3/6 limit game going. maybe 1 NL game running weekend evenings.

I played at Pala on friday/saturday night and there were a couple of 3/6 games, a 4/8 game, three 1/2 games, and a 2/3 game that started on friday evening and ran until sometime early sunday morning. It seemed a bit busier than normal.

One player at the 2/3 game mentioned that he was an online player coming back to live play because of the shutdown. Not sure of any others. pretty much EVERYONE was talking about black friday, though.

As for LHE...oceans is the only place I've ever seen anything bigger than 4/8.

Don't waste your time at Rincon. Since moving the poker room upstairs, it's become pretty pathetic. Not that it was ever rockin' before the move. But this year, even during the WSOP circuit, there were only four to five cash games going.

What is your preferred game?

Going to be in San Diego this weekend. Will try to convince my gf to let me play some 8-16 at Ocean's 11. Dissapointed to find out they got rid of the 8-16 at Village Club. That place was the nuts. Amazed to hear the 10-20NL is going strong there, although that's way higher than I'd want to play.

From what I hear, the village club has a very lively 8-16 Omaha game with a full kill. Apparently it is quite common for people to voluntarily kill it too. Would like to check it out sometime.

Oh, that might be worth checking out. I used to play there back in 03-04 when I lived there. Is Cowboy still running the show?

Read the previous 10 pages of this thread where I have a convo with myself about this game.

haha chilidog...glad to hear the game is still moving along. When I wander into Oceans I usually see some interest if not running. I'm still not into Hi Low, but if you ever get a high game going, please post it!

When I was at Barona in January, the 2/3 played like a 2/5. Both tables had pretty solid action, I'd guesstimate 3-5 people seeing every flop. Some very, very fishy plays.

One table dynamic was = everyone knew each other, a lotta talking, a lotta joking, a lotta unreasonably huge bets, and a lotta clues and fake clues to pick up on. (Mostly old fat white dudes.)

Another table dynamic was = everyone was respectful, but pretty dead quiet. Less action than the other table w/ far less risky/donkey plays, but the game was still fun, just different. (Mostly Asian dudes.)

I normally wouldn't note race, except in this case it was like the players segregated themselves. (Maybe the Asian dudes didn't get along with the white dudes?)

Whatever the reason was, I played both tables and had fun.

The $1/$2 games have also had pretty decent action, and a person w/ superaggro style can typically run 'em over. In October, my 1/2 table was pretty mediocre players. In January, the level of play was far more intelligent, w/ 3 players playing profitable poker.

Never had a problem getting into a game at Barona, although sometimes the wait is 20 min. Another thing I like is that I've noticed more female players there than other cardrooms. I dunno why, but it's cool by me.

Ever since I had to spend a tournament next to a dude who smelled like a ****ing bait boat in Santa Barbara's Chumash, I've realized that I've never had a complaint about how a female poker player smelled.

I hope this is a level. It is high only.

Haha no, sadly.
Never really watched the game just glanced at it on the board. I know PLO is usually played high but I have hardly ever seen high in a cardroom, so I just assumed.

I will definitely check out that 1-2.

Went Tuesday night. Was pretty fun. 4/8 O8 had 1 main game and 1 must move. Action looked good all around. 8/16 O8 had an interested list but never got going.

4/8-8/16-20/40 all running as well. May go Saturday, hopefully will be packed.

ALSO if anyone is interested in setting up a mix (4/8) or maybe something else (was thinking maybe straight nl deuce), I talked to one of the floors. He said give him a call in advance, because he would want it to get approved first, and educate his dealers. He also said the best chance to get it going would be on an off-traffic night, his reasoning being that the upper management would want all of the tables to run, and hold'em is going to give them more hands, and more money per hour.

Let's set this up guys! Who is down to play next Wed April 27? Say around 6pm maybe?

Internet poker got you down, come join the PLO game running every Friday night at Oceans 11 in Oceanside. $1-2 blinds with $5 bring-in, red chip game with comp food and the ability to run the board twice or thrice if you so desire. $200-$500 buy in. Game usually begins at 6pm. If you want to be added to a mail list send a message to O11-PLO@googlegroups.com and we will add you to the list, currently we have about 50 members of the group but are actively looking for new players.

Visiting the in-laws in san Diego this weekend and stopped into Oceans last night. Unfortunately didn't get there when the PLO game started up and ended up sitting late in the game (Asian guy with north face jacket and green celtics cap on right of dealer)

Fun game with a lot of banter. Didn't get much and potted the flop with my short stack on two draws but didn't get any action. I had baby duty early this AM so had to cash early. Came out only $100 ahead.

You guys outta get the casino to run a promotion to get more tables going and turn some of those action players at hi lo onto PLO. I can also see how you might scare away new blood with the dynamic there. It's got a very home game feel with too much stats and strategy discussion.

Show the action players that there's not a lot of hands with huge pre flop equity and they'll in turn bring the money to gamble when you have them dominated on the flop with a big wrap.

With the hopefully transient shut down of on line play this might be a good time to get PLO going in the US.

wait did you say action players at plo?

When I think action players I think of crazy aggro gamblers. Not old people who are calling stations that make up 75% of a O8 table.

Will be checking out Ocean's 11 in a couple hours. Going to have dinner, then drive up there which is about 30 minutes from here. Will probably play in 8/16 holdem if that's running.

That is the correct #, but I'm not sure you can call in for 8/16. Dont quote me tho, as I've only played it a handful of times.

You can call ahead for 8-16. Your name will remain on the board as a call-in for 1hr 15 mins. You can also reserve the 5-5NL, and the 20-40 limit.
Good luck
