Lets face it- Thunder is facing some issues:
The only room open for about a 100 mile radius.
A dealer shortage
Getting slammed with players every night, starting in mid-afternoon.
WWYD?
---I did notice a sign for a "Dealer School" and remembered that after last nights postings. They may need to hire and train people very quickly evidenced by that sign.
---maybe pull staffing that are dual rated and/or deal other table games? Is that doable?
-- or maybe do nothing. I don't mean that to be snarky, just realistic. Other rooms will eventually open, and then the demand will abate. As will your costs, staffing needs along with your top-line revenue. When Gavin says Go, you can be sure Stones and Cap will be up and running.
---TVCR has invested $$ in those plexi dividers, and goes 7-handed. Yes, at full drop. What good are those stand alone dividers after the pandemic? My guess is pretty useless.
Thunder's management has always been behind Stones n Peppermill. I mean look at their 2 year old new poker room...they build a brand spanking new 27+ table poker room and how many chairs they have in the waiting area/lounge? Yup a grand total of 4!!!
When the new room was opened there were discussion of changing the buyin structures of the lower stakes games like their 1/2 and 1/3 games...it took a pandamic for them to finally change it and make it better not only for the players but also for their bottom line. Why did it have to wait this long to do something that improves your bottom line and put more money in your dealers' pockets?
My gripe with Thunder is not about their shortage of dealers. If they are short on dealers fine, but at least manage the 12-15 table you have running properly. How hard is it to manage 12-15 table on a week day when you have no problem filling them up and yet they fail miserably at it. When you want to open a new table, at least do a board check first (pre pandemic). Shaving $5 off the top at lower stakes is highway robbery, raising rake when you are making more money than you've ever made and your dealers are raking in more tips than ever before is larceny. They are running more tables everyday, dealing more hands per hour now that they are 7-handed, yet Ben chose to go full drop 7-handed!?!?!?! "Hey folks, guess what, this poker room is doing great. We are the only game in town and raking in the dough like never before, our dealers are over worked but they are making more money than they've ever made in their lives BUT we are raising prices"
I think that's a big FU to us players.
Oh about them plexiglass, Thunder vs Stones vs Peppermill...which has the worst system of plexiglass? I think we all know the answer to that question.
I've been told by several sources that their management talent is pretty thin especially their floor sup roster. It is what it is. As a 1/2, 1/3 grinder in Sac, I now go to Thunder with no expectation whatsoever. I get my name on the wait list, some days I leave without even sitting down, on the days I do get a seat I'll play til their head is back in their ass and my table gets short and I rack up and leave. The silver lining to all this is that my hourly rate is at an all time high :-)
