I actually prefer the Lucky Derby. It's in the middle of a little strip mall that's become Russian, but seems a much safer area than the Capitol. I feel scared walking out with any money in my pockets there.

Almost any part of Sac is safer than the Capitol or Silverfox areas. Derby used to be THE PLACE to play in Sac, but poor management has led to a precipitous downfall in both game integrity and overall action.

the comps program at capitol has shown an influx of people in the 1/3 games thats for sure. 2/5 stays the same, always 3+ props playing lol

Appreciate all the info here guys keep it coming. And DaveC you gotta look at this from another perspective. Im an (ex) online player and despite the fact that I live here I haven't grinded around here live in years. It's nice to have a place to go where I can get good info on what places to avoid and what not to avoid. You dont have to worry about getting robbed when you're playing online, and if this is something that happens regularly enough to make it a concern for some then I would hope that people would continue to post these warnings in this thread rather than just assuming places are going to be safe because there's some dude standing by the front door.

havent played at capitol for like 4 months or more but i remember there being a ARMED gaurd standing outside so i think it would be difficult to be robbed, they might of hired after said incendents though.there are better games around capitol hires a lot of prop players,i was once considering it but they wanted me to keep my br of atleast 5 k in the cage at all times and couldnt retrieve it whenver i wanted ie.leave with my money evreynight.

Thanks OP for starting this thread. I'll be frequenting Jackson for the time being to establish a live br. For those of you who have played at Thunder, how strict are they with ID's. Do you think someone under 21 could play there?

Its all good. There are people that worry about gettting robbed....they're all over.
But how many people HAVE been robbed? ...thats overblown.
OK, Limelight robbery. We all know about it. It was in the paper. They've taken steps to prevent further. They robbed the cardroom, and not the people from what I heard. I was in there a few weeks ago until well after 100am- I see the upgraded security.
OK, alleged Capitol follow-home robbery. Never heard of it. Never heard any details. Please referrrence a SacBee article if there is one. Not saying it didn't happen, but in an online public forum discussing a legitimate business, lets paste in a link to the newspaper article if there was an assault of the magnitude alleged.
A Google search only comes up with the Limelight and some referrence to the Phoenix that I can't track down.
Its good to discuss the fact that if a player hits it big, or hits the BBJ, he can leave his money at the casino, take a check, take part of it, etc. Loose quote "...I always take my cash with me, I don't want to leave it a the cage...." ok...sorry folks, this is the 21st century. You can electronics your cash just about anywhere...unless you are really living under the radar. I hope we've stopped stuffing our cash in mattresses to keep it safe here. IN this day and age, there are so many ways to secure a large bankroll without having to stuff it in your pockets and look around 360 degrees for the ride home. get serious.
I like playing in this area, and I'm sure most of the people do as well. It compares favorably to a lot of other areas, as we've discussed. One good thing is, if you play a room long enough, you know who to go to with concerns. At Capitol, Gene sits in and plays all day. You all know, he'll talk and discuss just about anything with his customers. At TV, Ben walks in and out ten times a day, and John is a great floor kid who responds real fast. Other places have people right there to answer your Q/A and concerns.

So, back to the response, OK....lets talk about where to go and where to avoid. But if we're going to discuss where to avoid, lets back it up with facts and data, and not just I heard a dude got followed/robbed a few years back.
Hey, a guy got shot last year in front of Riverside Clubhouse in Land Park- so, everybody stop going there, or stay away from Land Park.....?...nah.

I played CC last week, probably Wed-Thurs.
sad
Honestly, pretty dead. I got there at 1100am, after checking out the golf course for the upcoming US Open qualifying. 2 tables of 3-6.......Two tables.
They have killed the Golden Goose.
we got a 4-8 table going around noon. They finally opened a 200max NL game about 300pm.
They've cut the quads from 1000.00 to 500.00 Aces cracked is still 100.00
BBJ is low...13K on top, and 8K, 5K backing. Low historically.
It reflects their weekday customer base, honestly. retirees, bus people, lower income due to being retired, no action, slow-playing KK.
sad, if you remember what it was like when we were in the big room. Now, you could move the active tables to an area in front of the hotel elevators, and you'd have room left over. I can't imagine burning up the gasoline going out there hoping theres a good game.

Royale, Capitol, Thunder and Lucky Derby all have armed security 24/7. And yes, Capitol does have a lot of props on duty at all times.

I heard about the follow homes from a regular who i'm pretty certain would not bs. You really think people getting robbed always shows up in Sac Bee? Maybe if people made a big fuss about the poker room being at fault(which clearly they are not), but let's be real, a home burglary is just not going to show up in the paper often unless it's happening frequently in one area and even if it did, it's not like the person robbed would always want to talk about it to the press.

I'm still playing there, and i wouldn't discourage anyone else from playing there. Honestly though, there are a lot of young, sometimes naive, kids who are looking for a place to play now. I fail to see how there is anything wrong with giving them a heads up. All the information in this thread has been worthwhile and helpful imo.

I've heard mixed reviews concerning tournaments in the area. I'm not interested in playing those crappy $20 rebuys that the smaller rooms run ( I won 1 at limelight sick brag I know) and have heard that Capitol and Thunder Valley run some decent tournaments once or twice a month on the weekends with decent structure/prizepools. Can anybody confirm this? I'd like to get some practice in before Vegas.

Love Capitol.

Never felt threatened, the food is amazing, and the players are horrible.

Cap really hasn't been running the 5/10 as of late. It will run friday nights occasionally.

9/18 lhe has been starting to run again which is a good sign. It probably won't be like it ways 3 or 4 years ago when that game ran pretty much everyday.

The 5/10 has been hopping at the CAP. On Monday they had 3 games of 5/10 with 6 people on the list. NEVER have seen that. since it moved over from Royale Nicole has got that thing going well.

Lucky derby is a pretty small poker room but it feels pretty safe there. How big is casino royale? I think that is just a poker room and no slots right?

I don't know why those players follow her around. But if I know Clark's ways, he'll dump her out on her ass in a couple months. Standard Capitol management behavior.
