Looks like TV has cut down from 27 tables to 18
Seems like every poker player from the Bay to Reno are at TV this week...waiting list 100 deep in prime time

Any word on when the governor is going to let cardrooms open up and what the restrictions are going to be?

At this point, I believe it is up to the counties. Oceans 11 in San Diego county opened up.

First- my confirmation of 9-handed was by a good friend who was up there last weekend, and confirmed the 9handed play. He texted a pic. I assume they went back to regular rake and dispatched with the time charge, but cannot confirm it.

I think Thunder is having difficulty filling dealer time. Dealer downs are 40min there, and I've seen plenty of downs not get pushed, etc., short staff. The reasons are probably just what we think; trying to get bodies in the door to work. Its not rational nor of their style to have long lists like they've had with open tables, especially during the weeknights. As I write, (Wed. 745pm) they've got 14 active tables and double digit waits for 1-3, 25, 3-6L and 4-8L O8. Peppermill shows 5 total games with just 2 waits on 1-2 and 5 names waiting on the only 3-6L game. Sounds like time to use some of those three night comps.
Above copied from the Reno/Tahoe forum.

Lets face it- Thunder is facing some issues:
The only room open for about a 100 mile radius.
A dealer shortage
Getting slammed with players every night, starting in mid-afternoon.

WWYD?
---I did notice a sign for a "Dealer School" and remembered that after last nights postings. They may need to hire and train people very quickly evidenced by that sign.
---maybe pull staffing that are dual rated and/or deal other table games? Is that doable?
-- or maybe do nothing. I don't mean that to be snarky, just realistic. Other rooms will eventually open, and then the demand will abate. As will your costs, staffing needs along with your top-line revenue. When Gavin says Go, you can be sure Stones and Cap will be up and running.
---TVCR has invested $$ in those plexi dividers, and goes 7-handed. Yes, at full drop. What good are those stand alone dividers after the pandemic? My guess is pretty useless.

Thunder's management has always been behind Stones n Peppermill. I mean look at their 2 year old new poker room...they build a brand spanking new 27+ table poker room and how many chairs they have in the waiting area/lounge? Yup a grand total of 4!!!

When the new room was opened there were discussion of changing the buyin structures of the lower stakes games like their 1/2 and 1/3 games...it took a pandamic for them to finally change it and make it better not only for the players but also for their bottom line. Why did it have to wait this long to do something that improves your bottom line and put more money in your dealers' pockets?

My gripe with Thunder is not about their shortage of dealers. If they are short on dealers fine, but at least manage the 12-15 table you have running properly. How hard is it to manage 12-15 table on a week day when you have no problem filling them up and yet they fail miserably at it. When you want to open a new table, at least do a board check first (pre pandemic). Shaving $5 off the top at lower stakes is highway robbery, raising rake when you are making more money than you've ever made and your dealers are raking in more tips than ever before is larceny. They are running more tables everyday, dealing more hands per hour now that they are 7-handed, yet Ben chose to go full drop 7-handed!?!?!?! "Hey folks, guess what, this poker room is doing great. We are the only game in town and raking in the dough like never before, our dealers are over worked but they are making more money than they've ever made in their lives BUT we are raising prices"
I think that's a big FU to us players.

Oh about them plexiglass, Thunder vs Stones vs Peppermill...which has the worst system of plexiglass? I think we all know the answer to that question.

I've been told by several sources that their management talent is pretty thin especially their floor sup roster. It is what it is. As a 1/2, 1/3 grinder in Sac, I now go to Thunder with no expectation whatsoever. I get my name on the wait list, some days I leave without even sitting down, on the days I do get a seat I'll play til their head is back in their ass and my table gets short and I rack up and leave. The silver lining to all this is that my hourly rate is at an all time high :-)

Yes..the above are legit.
In the past, when I had a major issue that was echoed by other players, I found the Manager to be very approachable. Since you know him by name, as do I, my question is- have you approached him about these valid issues you raise?
Legit issues like the waiting area, especially if there are going to be double figure names on waitlists. Or the insistence of playing Mr. Microphone behind the podium instead of patrolling the room and eyeballing actual empty seats. (to his credit, when Ben is there, this happens a lot less).

I'll say one thing- to your and others credit- I'm just not going out there much, when I see huge waitlists and not enough games going. I do hope the Sac.Co. poker players find satisfaction here and elsewhere.

Does anyone know if the new casino in Elk Grove is going to have a Poker Room?

Does anyone know when Thunder is going to offer their shuttle service again? Poker here in the Bay is “lacking” (to put it lightly - it sucks currently).

And regarding Sky River (the new casino in Elk Grove), yes, I’ve been told it will have poker.

Staying at Sheraton Grand. First time In town. Looks like 1 mile walk from hotel to Capitol Casino.

Is the mile walk safe… especially walking back late? I live in a big city and I’m generally fine walking around downtown at night. But just wanted to get thoughts on the walk.

Hate to bother (and pay for) a Lyft driver for just one mile.

Thx for info.

Lots of homeless encampments in the neighborhood last time I was there. As in people living in tents on the sidewalks. Use your own judgment as to what that means for your safety.

Get a Lyft. Capitol casino is in a bad area. You would have be insane or heavily armed to walk a mile after dark with cash in your pocket in that neighborhood.

Not usually. I moved away a year ago: it was always tough to get one going. O8 goes here often is all.

How is the O8 game at Thunder Valley? When I visit Sacto my favorite game is O8 at Capital Casino, because I can sit in the afternoon and be reasonably sure the game will run 'til the wee hours. But of course Capital is quite worse for the wear, and the area is rough. How consistent does O8 run at Thunder Valley?
